Team Communication

Speed of team communication is one of the key things in successful team work. Team members need to be able to share information, ask questions of each other, and even sometimes make decisions with great speed. There’s nothing more frustrating than sending out information and asking for a response from your team members, and then hearing nothing back.

So for each team, working out how you will best communicate with each other is a crucial task. Here’s some ways I’ve found that work, or that do...

Three Signs of a Powerful Vision

Here are three signs of a powerful vision. I’ve written before on The Purpose of Vision, and it’s become one of the most popular posts on this blog. So this is a follow up of sorts.

A powerful vision statement provides purpose and direction, as I wrote about earlier. But a powerful vision also has the following three characteristics:

It’s Clear: Too many visions are fuzzy, generalised and unclear. A powerful vision is very clear, and very obvious as to whether it’s been achieved, or how clo...

George Mueller: Inspiring Quotes

Here’s a selection of our favourite George Mueller quotes. Mueller famously looked after thousands of orphans in Bristol in the 19th century. He had a unique take on fundraising in that he never asked directly for support, but simply prayed that the money needed would always come in.

If you need reminding that God can always provide for his work, then read on:

“Be assured, if you walk with Him and look to Him, and expect help from Him, He will never fail you.”

“God judges what we give by what...

Pitfalls of Leadership

Last month I read the book Dynasty by Tom Holland. It’s a follow up to his brilliant account of the end of the Roman Republic in Rubicon. This sequel covers the lives of the first five Roman emperors; Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius and Nero.

It’s a fascinating historical account in its own right, but it can also be read as a study in some of the pitfalls of leadership. The Roman emperors began (with Augustus) as supposed ordinary citizens who could only justify their absolute power by...

Letter to the Hebrews

The Letter to the Hebrews, like most other New Testament letters, has a fairly simple two part structure. The first part is a recap of some foundational theological truths (in this case the supremacy of Jesus, above any other person, priest or system). The second part is then a series of practical actions that we as readers are to perform, or recommit to performing, as followers of Jesus.

In the case of Hebrews the actions can be handily packaged together, since there are eight ‘let us…’ stat...

William Wilberforce: Inspiring Quotes

Here’s a selection of William Wilberforce inspiring quotes. The man who campaigned for 20 years to abolish the slave trade has much to teach us on seeking God, prioritising time with Him, and committing ourselves to serve others.

Read and be inspired:

The shortening of private devotions starves the soul.”

“Surely flowers are the smiles of God’s goodness.”

“I resolve to be up in time to have an hour before breakfast for serious meditation, prayer, and Scripture.”

Changing Limiting Beliefs

Here are six recommendations for how to go about changing limiting beliefs that you may be carrying.

Uncover the belief. This sounds simple and obvious, but is actually a huge step. Discerning the beliefs puts you 90% further down the track than most people ever get to, and is the first step to changing them. Solidify the belief. Write it down as a short statement in its simplest form, e.g. “I will never lose weight”, “I will always be single”, “I am not good enough to be successful.” Challe...

Discerning Limiting Beliefs

Limiting beliefs has become a huge subject in the coaching, leadership and self-help arenas. Here’s some brilliant wisdom from the book The Unlimited Self on how to discern limiting beliefs you may be carrying in your life.

Limiting beliefs are the stories our minds feed us which limit who we are and where we want to go. They disempower us rather than empower us. They can be related to inner vows, which often come from hurt and the judgment of others, e.g. someone from our childhood behaves i...

Duncan Campbell: On Revival

Duncan Campbell was a man used by God in successive waves of revival throughout the Scottish Hebridean islands in the 1940s and 1950s.

The below video features Campbell’s testimony from one of the most famous of those revival periods, from the island of Lewis. After an intro, from 3:40 in Campbell shares incredible stories of God at work from that period.

From my studies of revival, including Duncan Campbell’s ministry in this Hebridean one, the 1904 Welsh revival, moves of God in South Kore...

John Wesley: Inspiring Quotes

Here are eight of the most inspiring John Wesley quotes.

I’ve been studying Wesley’s life for over 10 years now, and still find so much that inspires and challenges me in my life of discipleship and mission. Here are great quotes that cover his beliefs around prayer and the bible, his attitude to money, and his zeal for sharing the amazing news that God loves us.

Read and be challenged!

“God does nothing but in answer to prayer.”

“O give me the Bible. At any price give me the book of God! I h...
