Thank you.

With the end of the Texas Book Festival, the bulk of my promotion for A Wrinkle in Time is over. October has been an exhausting, wonderful experience, and I want to take a moment to thank some of the people who made the book’s debut a success.

- My editor, Margaret Ferguson, Ms. L’Engle’s estate, and everyone at FSG/Macmillan, without whom the book wouldn’t exist.

- My agent, Judy Hansen, for ensuring that I had the resources to do it justice.

- My husband Bryan, who held down the fort while I g...

A Wrinkle in Time is #2 on the NYT Graphic Books list!

Thanks to everyone who bought the book, reviewed the book, hosted a signing, and helped spread the word, A Wrinkle in Time: The Graphic Novel debuted at #2 on the New York Times Hardcover Books bestseller list! The attached graphic and link say it’s #1–for 12 blissful hours I thought I had it clinched–but there was a mistake, and the top spot actually belongs to Chris Ware. No shame in losing to one of the greats!

Many of the cartoonists on the graphic books lists this week are people I’ve kno...

Bitter Orange

I did an interview with Badass Digest’s Meredith Borders about A Wrinkle in Time and my short film, Bitter Orange. Click here to read it! In it, I talk for the first time about the cast of my short: Brie Larson (brilliant, wonderful, no relation), Brendan Hines (who’s currently on tour right with his band), and James Urbaniak (DR. VENTURE!). I’m not sure when it will be online, but I’ll post here as soon as I do.

Here’s the poster, illustrated by Becky Cloonan, with title lettering by Dustin H...

A Wrinkle in Time Book Tour

This September and October, I’ll be tessering all over the country in support of my new graphic novel, A Wrinkle in Time! Events are still being worked out, so details are hazy on some of these. I’ll update when I know more.

If you manage a bookstore or comic shop and you’d like me to visit, please let me know! If you’re a teacher who wants me to visit his/her class, I appreciate your interest, but I don’t give lectures or workshops.

Sunday, September 23rd – Washington D.C. – National Book Fest...

Just got a couple of ARCs (cheaply-printed advance copies) of Who Is AC?, a graphic novel written by me and drawn by Tintin Pantoja. It won’t be out for another 11 months, so I wasn’t expecting to see any copies for quite a while. Fun surprise!

Wrinkle in Time Convention Banner

If you look closely at the cover of the book you’ll see that the illustrations I used for this banner are the three tiny silhouettes under the title. I thought that was a waste of some nice inks, so I’m glad I was able to repurpose the artwork here. The banner is 33″ x 80″, so I scanned in the artwork, dumped it into Illustrator, converted it to a vector image with Live Trace, blew it way up and tossed some colors in there. The cursive lettering I did by hand; it’s a combination of my own han...

A Wrinkle in Time and a Whole Lot More

So it’s been almost a year since I last blogged. I signed into WordPress yesterday to find a big mess, e-mailed my web designer Sarah Becan (also a talented cartoonist!) and learned that my site had been hacked! It’s fixed now, and here I am.

Here’s a rundown of what I’ve been working on.

1) A Wrinkle in Time. The book’s finished! Inked, lettered, colored (by Dicebox‘s Jenn Manley Lee), copyedited and probably somewhere overseas being printed. It will be out on October 2nd through Farrar, Strau...

Sweden, I’m coming for you!

Blogging half an hour before I leave for the airport? Why not. That’s how I roll.

This weekend, a bunch of copies of Mercury and I will be at SPX Stockholm. As you may have guessed, I’m of Swedish descent, so visiting Sweden is a long-time dream of mine. I’ll finally get to see how it feels to be a Larson among Larssons! Anyway, my schedule’s something like this:

• Thursday from 6ish – 9ish I’ll be at the women’s drink & draw event, which I believe is taking place at Kulturhuset.

• Friday from 1...

Cosplay

Here’s a panel from a short comic written and drawn by me, and inked by Bryan Lee O’Malley. It’ll probably be colored by Yuko Ota, too! The comic is for a totally awesome project I can’t tell you about… yet.

For whatever reason I sat down to draw this comic and it didn’t come out in my usual style. I guess that after 345 pages of A Wrinkle in Time my brain was ready to do things differently.
