Kari Chaplin writes dark romance and emotionally charged fiction where love is never simple, desire comes with teeth, and happily-ever-after has to crawl through the fire before it earns the name.

Her stories blend passion, trauma, obsession, faith, darkness, and the kind of heartbreak that leaves fingerprints. She is the author of The Darkness Saga, including Darkness Awakens, Kissed by Darkness, and Darkness Prevails.

Kari is also the founder of Elegant Ink Entertainment, a story-driven brand built around books, reader experiences, and darkly elegant events. When she is not writing, plotting, or creating new ways to lure readers into the shadows, she is usually dreaming up the next scene that will hurt just enough to be unforgettable.

The times, I guess you may call writer's block, I either went into edit the story until inspiration hit me or I turned off my computer. I didn't stress over it. I went back to my daily. I found that at the worse possible moments, inspiration would strike. I remember washing dishes one day and I was swept into the world of Darkness Awakens. I was at the bar having a conversation with the characters. When I came out of the daydream, I realized there was no way I could write with three kids needing my attention, dinner to cook and so fourth. So I opened my phone and wrote the notes on a notepad app. If I had to answer that, I would say that I put it down until inspiration took ahold of me. (less)

Most of the time, I have no clue where a tiny idea is taking the story. I feel like I am part of these worlds that I create. I feel like they are vacation spots I frequent. (less)

Traditional Writing vs. High-Concept Thriller Prose: Why One Tells a Story and the Other Tightens the Noose

Some stories invite you in gently.

Others lock the door behind you.

That is the emotional difference between traditional writing and high-concept thriller prose.

Both can be beautiful. Both can be powerful. Both can break your heart if they are written well. But they move differently on the page. Traditional prose often lingers. It gives the reader atmosphere, emotional reflection, description, and s
