Sancte Diaboli part 2 review and release blitz, Amo Jones

This was a solid book. I’ve long awaited the end to this series, the HEAs for our boys, and it’s here.

I have to say, it let me down a tad. I thought the book felt a little rushed to me, a little predictable, a little bit missing of Amo’s usual mind-messery. The twists weren’t believable, and certain parts seem unnecessary, like they were there just so the book wouldn’t be all sunshine and rainbows.

I also have to say I don’t quite understand the last MadShip book. We know they’ve got their HEA and I’m not sure I care to know what happened in between. They got theirs, just let them be happy.

Still, this was a solid end to the series. Long-time readers will love it. If you’re a little on the outside, it falls a little flat.

“Turn around.”

It’s a guttural command.
 He bends me over the arm of the couch, and my hands hit the cushion for support, to steady myself. At the sound of the condom tearing, my inner muscles contract, bracing for him. He spreads my cheeks and, slipping his whole hand between my legs, cups the trembling flesh. I’m unprepared for the swipe of his tongue. For the subtle abrasion of his beard scraping the inner skin of my thighs. For the sound of him eating me. I push back against his face, helpless, no shame. Digging my nails into the cushions, I widen my legs to give me more, to take more for myself. He grips my thighs, holding me steady for his devouring mouth until, with a sob that sails over the rooftop, over the city, I contract around his delving tongue. The orgasm hits hard, tightening the muscles in my thighs and calves. With staccato breaths, I bury my face in the couch, biting my lip to the point of pain.


“Canon,” I beg. “Stop teasing me and—”


He shoves in, and the words tumble back down my throat, recessing into the shock of this pleasure.


“Jesus.” Need shreds my voice to ribbons.

“So damn good,” he grunts behind me.


I hope I never get over how perfect he feels inside me, like I was molded to his specifications. Shaped for his dimensions. I moan and reach my hand back to pull at one of my cheeks, widening the way for his cock. It feels like he goes where no dick has gone before, deeper, better. Somehow I feel each thrust in my heart. His every touch plays on my emotions, and tears sting my eyes. His hand tightens at my hip, and he slides the other hand up my arm, finds my hand on the couch and laces our fingers together. He sets a frenetic pace that sends the blood singing through my body again. The cushion absorbs my scream as I come, and I punish the soft cotton with clawing nails. With his voice strangled, his fingers fisted in my hair, he comes. 


Collapsing against my back, a heavy, happy burden, his breath stilted and warm at my neck, he snakes one muscled arm around my middle, clutching me. After the urgent, feral coupling, it’s a cherishing hold. I cross my arm over his at my waist and tangle our fingers. It’s fragile and sweet, this moment, like flakes of sugar disintegrating on your tongue when you’ve barely had time to taste.

Kennedy’s writing... it’s... whoa.

I loved this story. I loved how it was written. I loved Neevah. I loved Canon. I loved Takira and Holt and Evan.

This is a story of strength, and pride, and paying homage, and it’s also one of celebration.

Canon, like many of Kennedy’s men, is strong, and solid, and unwavering.

Neevah is, like canon says, like light. You can’t help but fall in love with her.

This book is effortless. But it makes you feel like you’re a part of something, that in a small way, you’re helping to right a wrong.

tragic lies review and release blitz, LA Cotton

 This was a solid book. 

I’ve been waiting for it since the end of the previous one, and I was only slightly disappointed.

I loved Xander and Peyton’s story. It was a beautiful story of two damaged people finding each other and overcoming their pain.

But I don’t know if I missed something, but Xander’s behaviour never made sense to me. I get he had a rough childhood, but I never understood where he went off the rails.

Another thing that bothered me was how the original raiders treated him. They said some truly horrible things to him, as did Peyton’s friends to her.

I guess it goes to show how people don’t understand grief and how they react to it, but it was a little infuriating to read some of those things.

Still, the beauty of this book overwhelms that. I love that this book is raw and unflinching.

There are massive triggers here for suicide and self harm, so please be aware!

I do think it’s worth giving a go though.

Review:

My first six star book of the year.

This book was EVERYTHING!

I loved the strong female characters. I love the amusing male characters.

I absolutely loved the Asian rep. It is SO incredibly exciting to see more and more Asian books on the market. They’ve been fairly underrepresented and to see them coming? They warm my heart and make this half-Chinese girl feel seen.

I loved how confident Fang was, but also questioned herself when she needed to. I loved how confident sex is discussed in this book, although I can foresee some people having issues with the way men are treated. 

I loved the magic system and the world building. It’s not thrown at you all at once, but built upon slowly. 

I did have an issue with the grammar in this book, the use of commas in particular, but as I was reading an ARC I hope that was fixed in editing.

Still, this book is incredible. To see such rich cultures on the page? To see such strong women, to see equality, of all kinds? It’s exactly what the world needs right now.

Run, don’t walk, to grab a copy of this book!

I’m slightly annoyed with this book. I assumed, for no particular reason lol, that this was the final book in the series. I was only part of the way through when I discovered it wasn’t.

I was also told by someone on TikTok that this book was spicy. It wasn’t.

I’m also confused by this book. So much of it was travelling. And it was painful. And slow. And annoying. This book is long,  it didn’t really pick up until about 65%. I just don’t understand the need for it. Why go to all this trouble only to leave us on a cliffhanger? It’s unnecessary and boring. And pointless.

I also found the second book in this series to be lacking, and this felt the Killian and Lydia chapters to be boring.

But less boring than all the travelling. Did I mention there’s travelling? I’m pretty sure I know the layout of the entire empire now for no other reason than this book spans it all.

If you’re a fan of the series this book is needed, if you’re on the fence, I’d wait until the final book and try and pick up the pieces.

A native Californian, she lives on fourteen acres in the middle of nowhere with her husband, two kids, one dog, and four cats.
