A lot of Men are in the Wrong Job

There's a certain elevated level of situational awareness that comes with the opportunity to review multitudes of coaching applications. For those of you who have already or will someday soon submit an application for one of the performance groups we run, just know that I consider it an honor to read each and every one.

There are a few things that really stood out to me from the group of people who just applied to the new groups we're getting ready to launch. Here's one that's particularly rel...

Would You Just Strap Yourself To Another Dude and Let Him...

Climbing or Jumping?

“What produced more fear? Jumping out of a plane or climbing?" I asked the guys during STG 001’s Air excursion, already knowing the answer.

“Climbing,” they all replied.

“What?” I asked, surprised. “How is that?”

I guess I didn’t already know the answer.

They went on to explain that because they were attached to their parachuting instructor, they were able to just kind of let go of their own future. “I was in his hands, so I just went along for the ride,” they all said in one...

3 Ways The SEAL Teams Set The Standard For Me To Come Alive In Life

No kidding, I was lying on the floor of my office just trying to breathe because of the stress -- staring at the ceiling, just waiting until I could pull up some courage and the shred of confidence required for me to hit it again.

That was me, just a few years ago. When I made the jump from the corporate world to being a full-time writer, there was risk. Though I pulled it off, I still came out of the pivot with my share of scars. Mental and physical. Yes. Risk can hurt you even when you win. ...

3 Ways to Come Alive - Because The World Needs You to

Your Wake up Call

HQ Diving STG 001 Sea ExcursionCave Diving STG 001 Sea ExcursionGOPR0029.JPG

I’ve come to learn that the possibilities a man can see are filtered and limited by the tools, physical and mental, he has possession and knowledge of. This phenomenon is suffocating many.

Unfortunately, ambitious men swim in a world of podcasts, audiobooks, online video courses and weekend seminars. Knowledge based tools that are severely limiting their ability to see what is truly possible in their lives.

For example:

If you don’t own any or know how to use climbing gear, you’ll likely m...

Brotherhoods Breaking Out

Screen Shot 2018-01-24 at 9.20.02 AM.png

After the second of our SEA-Air-Land (SEAL) excursions I did with Strategic Training Group 001, I noticed a new attitude had started to settle about the members of the group. They were being afflicted with something.

I myself wasn't immune to how the trips were affecting me either. Something had awakened for all of us.

The R.O.I

For me it's like a cherished memory from my childhood was coming back into focus, into reality. Something, a source of joy and energy I once had, that in one way or th...

“People think they need help with their weight, but really they are miserable at work, and that’s the source,” the doctor said.

The doctor is one of the members of the Strategic Training Group I lead throughout the year, and we were talking about how many guys choose their careers out of necessity rather than desire—a topic in my Habits of Heroes ebook.

The doctor went on to explain that many of his patients are unhappy with what they spend a bulk of their time and energy on—mostl...

The Waves of Power

At about 15 feet underwater, the world goes quiet. Your internal engine—which feels as if it has been running indefinitely—finally cools.

You are in a new world, a new order. You are vulnerable to the food chain, as ordinary and susceptible as the reef fish beside you and yet soon to become powerful, like a Creator and king. You are free-diving, descending deep on breath-holds. It feels like that dream we’ve all had in which we’re flying—a peaceful exhilaration--or  watching a GoPro video on...

Remember when the ebook “Habits of Heroes” made a case for existing within a brotherhood? That’s because without one you’ll get your ass blown out of the water, or at best find yourself adrift at sea.

New World Order

The world has become too dynamic and competitive, and now requires levels of patience, courage and confidence beyond what a single man can hold on his own.

Alone we're weak and unable to fully realize our roles as leaders, fathers or providers with dignity. As we become pressed...

Don't do it Yourself (DIY)

“You don’t change the oil in your own car?” a guy once asked me in a judgmental, “Hey, can you believe this guy?” kind of way.

“No,” I answered with a shrug. “I’m not a mechanic. I have to pay someone to do that kind of stuff.”

He seemed confused, as if changing my car’s bedpan had something to do with being a man.

Manhood?

Now, if I were going to point to skills that made someone a man, I might have replied:

“What? You don’t build your own surveillance devices or explosive booby traps?”·

“You don...
