gekkan shoujo nozaki-kun + text posts

A great way to get writing today- use these images to inspire your characters. Think about emotion and tension as you write either a dialogue or a monologue based on one of the pictures.

Hello, can you please tell me the difference between the POVs of First, second and third person ?

First Person:  Reflects the style of a firsthand account.  “I got out of bed,” “he spoke to me after the conference,” “we talked all the way to the bus stop,” etc.  Examples:  The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater.

Second Person:  Reflects the style of a choose-your-own adventure book.  “You hesitate before knocking on the door,” “it doesn’t take long for you to reach the end of the tunnel,” etc.  Example: basically any choose-your-own adventure book out there.

Third Person: reflects the style of a secondhand account.  “She took forever to get ready,” ”they raced to the scene of the crime,” “his time was slowly running out,” etc.  Examples:  Partials by Dan Wells, The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson.

Good luck!

chroniclebooks:The Great Tumblr Book Search is back and bigger...

chroniclebooks:

The Great Tumblr Book Search is back and bigger than ever!

In the past, we’ve teamed up with Tumblr to ask the Internet for its funniest book ideas. Our first winner was the historically illuminating Sh*t Rough Drafts, and the second was the truly educational Droll Pranks for Rich Boys, which will be published this fall. But Tumblr isn’t just about laughter and cat GIFs—it’s about that and so much more.

So this year we’re expanding the types of books we’re looking for. Choose from one of three categories:

Art: Calling all photographers, illustrators, or anyone else making visually interesting things that would translate well to print.Food + Drink: Are you an epicure? We want to see cookbooks, food memoirs, and whatever else you’re cooking up!Humor: We still want to be amused, so keep the LOL-worthy book ideas coming.

Here’s how to enter:

If your Tumblr deserves to be a book, craft a post pitching the idea. Include a proposed title, a written synopsis of the book-to-be (200 words or less), and examples that communicate your concept (photos, animated gifs, artwork, video, text, or any media supported by Tumblr). We will check out your post, along with your entire Tumblr blog.Tag the post “TumblrBookSearch”Give us a link to the post and your contact information using this form.

Here’s what you could win:

3 Grand Prizes (One from each category): Your book idea considered for publication, $300 worth of Chronicle books, a feedback session with a Chronicle Books editor.

3 Runners-up: $100 worth of Chronicle books

The contest ends 3/2/2015, so don’t miss your chance to enter. Winners will be announced 4/6/2015.

Read the official rules for more information, and email contests@chroniclebooks.com with any questions. Happy pitching!
