Guest Post: Snakes on a Starship, Rattlesnake in the Garage with Laurie Green
A bit of serendipity occurred while I was in the process of writing my story, StarDog for the Pets in Space Anthology. Okay, serendipity may be way too light-hearted as a word choice. More like “Are you kidding me?”
Because you see, a rattlesnake had slithered its way into my garage. And I encountered said trespasser coiled up next to the door while carrying my very small dogs outside for their break.

Even though we’re writing about fictional pets for this anthology, I’ve seen an actual ‘pet’ who went to space and survived – Miss Baker, a squirrel monkey who became one of the first two monkeys launched together into space by the US and recovered alive in 1959. Pets in Space
On October 11th, I have a new short story coming out in an anthology with eight other fantastic authors. The theme, as you might guess from the cover, is pets…in space. Science fiction or space opera romance stories that feature pets, both recognizable and alien. We are all, each one of us, animal lovers. I’ve had a lot of reader questions about consorts. Like, “Is Mercy really going to have consorts? I want her to marry Reaper!”
