Pirate Throne Excerpt ~ Prologue

Note: this is unedited and subject to change prior to official publication

The palace lay cloaked in winter. Someone’s sense of irony, no doubt. The white mechstone walls shimmered against a backdrop of snow dusting the Starlotus trees and the winding garden paths, and blanketing the ground cover in pristine white. Flowers that had bloomed and filled the air with fragrance only weeks ago hung shriveled and withered, dead.

It was the sort of dramatic symbolism Casimir detested. The Commonwealth was without it...

Sandwich Snippet

Reaper crossed to the counter and began pulling food out of storage. It looked like he was preparing two plates.

“I’m not hungry,” she said.

He continued what he was doing, not turning around. “You were earlier. Now you’re just letting your emotions rule your physical self. It’s not healthy.”

She scowled when he set a sandwich in front of her. “I don’t need you to take care of me.” She knew she sounded petulant. She couldn’t bring herself to stop.

Reaper leaned over and kissed the top of her head.

It startled her so much,...

Hunting Ground: Chapter 4

Chapter 4

They’d barely boarded Reaper’s corvette, and Atrea already regretted her decision. It was bad enough feeling beholden to Jaxon for his help, but involving the rest of Reaper’s dogs took it to a whole new level. She barely knew these men, and yet here they were, putting aside their lives, going on a probably dangerous mission to help her. Why?

In Atrea’s experience, most people didn’t go out of their way to help others without a reason. Family, friends, and loved ones helped one an...

Pirate Consort is live!

I know you guys have been waiting forever! It’s finally here! Pirate Consort is live in the kindle store.

Outlaw. Telepath. Pirate. Queen.

Mercy is no longer a fugitive running for her life and hiding from the family she left behind. She thought the hardest part of going home was going to be surviving the dangerous, psychically gifted pirates she calls family, but the truth is far more complicated, and her relatives aren’t quite as murderous as she remembers.

Now Mercy is their Queen, a role...

Amazon reacts to new law with censorship of sexually explicit books

This isn’t me…yet. But I do personally know this author and her books. Just like I know several others who have already been affected by Amazon’s sweeping response to the new law passed last week by Congress. This would be the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Bill of 2017. A summary:

Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act of 2017

(Sec. 3) This bill amends the Communications Act of 1934 to specify that communications decency provisions protecting providers from liability for the private blocking or...

Hunting Ground – Chapter 3

Muscular man in towel, isolated on white background

Chapter 3

Atrea didn’t go to Jaxon right away. She had a life. Training. School with the kids. An awkward dinner with her Dad.

And wasn’t that just the highlight of her day? She was getting really tired of this standoff between them. She loved him, and most of the time she could see the reasoning behind his obstinacy, even when they didn’t agree. But not when it came to her Mom.

For years, she’d put up with his silence on the matter, believing his grief responsible. Tess, Atrea’s mother, was...

Hunting Ground – Chapter 2

Yay! The Atrea short now has a title. Update on Pirate Consort: I don’t have an exact time, but it will be available soon. “Soon” being maybe as early as this weekend, but definitely within the week! I’ll post/share links as soon as I have them. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy Chapter 2!

Chapter 2

For once, Jaxon actually listened to her. She couldn’t feel him shadowing her anymore. And this time Atrea didn’t feel any weird twinge about the lack.

Thank the Mother.

She needed a drink. It wasn’t t...

Hunting Ground – Chapter 1

charity_boxset2

Chapter 1

The disrupter lay on the counter, the weapon’s matte finish dull beneath the lights. It was new. None of the intricate grip pattern had been worn away by the friction of hands holding it. The barrel was smooth, no nicks or scratches to the finish.

It was as inert as a weapon could be. Innocuous. Straight from manufacture, it held no history. Nothing but test firing for quality control.

But Atrea’s mouth still went dry, looking at it. She rubbed her palm against her leg, then immedi...
