Novel Writing Software Review: Should I try Scrivener this NaNoWriMo?

With NaNoWriMo only a few days away, I wanted to cover some of the different novel writing software options available out there. One of the most famous programs around isScrivener so it seems as good a one to start with as any.
Scrivener is an official sponsor of NaNoWriMo so they’re offering three big incentives to give the program a try this year:
While Scrivener normally offers a free 30 day trial, they’ve extended that exclusively for NaNo participants. Download the...

Sorry for the last minute notice on this, guys. My life is still in complete and utter chaos so I’m still behind on everything. BUT if you’ve missed me, you can get a little dose of me on eBay Radio today at 3 PM EST or Noon PST where I’ll be talking about some of [...]

Ask a NaNoWriMo ML: What should I write? (Hint: It’s what you’re most excited about!)
Here’s a question I’ve gotten from several Wrimos leading up to the start of National Novel Writing Month:
What should I write for NaNoWriMo?
Or, almost as frequently I get this version:
I’m thinking about writing [Project 1] but I also have this idea for [Project 2]. Which one should I do?
And here’s my answer: Write the project that you’re most excited about writing.
Obviously, I can’t tell you what to write or which project to work on this year. I’m not in your head or living your life. But I c...

Ask a NaNoWriMo ML: What’s a NaNo rebel? How do you become one?
This is another Frequently Asked Question I get every year. What is a NaNoWriMo rebel? How do you become one? What are the rules of being one?
Simply put, anyone who is creating their own version of the NaNoWriMo challenge instead of following the official contest rules is a NaNoWriMo rebel.
Any of the following examples could make you an NaNo rebel:
Writing a novel that you’ve already started before NaNoWriMo begins (ie, finishing an older word in progress)
Writing anything other than a novel (s...

No more excuses! This is the year you finally write that story.
[image error]I’m here to talk to you about that story. You know the one. That story you keep saying you’re going to write someday.
I know, I know. You’ll write it later, when you have more time, after the kids graduate, when you retire, or whatever excuse you’re making this week.
Let’s be honest. At the rate you’re going, you’ll keep putting off writing that story for the rest of your life. Your idea doesn’t deserve that. It’s a good idea! Heck, it’s a great idea, and you know that or youwouldn’tkeep carryi...

A quick visual reminder: Social networking doesn’t have to be as complicated as we make it
I just had to share this very quick little example of how sometimes social networking is so much easier than we make it out to be. Here’s a real Facebook post from my friend Diana P. of Suburban Girl Studios and her new store,Suburban Girl Beads. Her post couldn’t have been simpler and in a [...]

Ask a NaNoWriMo ML: What does participation entail? Do I have to attend events in my area?
Leading up to NaNoWriMo, I’m going to tackle a few Frequently Asked Questions for both the Wrimos in my area and around the web. This one comes from fontiptoes on Tumblr.
So, I would really like to participate, but I am kinda clueless about the concept. Here’s what I grasp: Aim’s 50000 words in 30 days, but what else what I have to do? Am I expected to participate meetings and writing parties in my area?
Can somebody enlighten me? Please?
This is a very common question which is why I figured I s...

Presenting the cover for the acting edition of my newest play, Polar Twilight!
Even though Polar Twilight went on sale in July, I actually hadn’t gotten my author copies from Playscripts until this week. I didn’t even know what color the cover would be, though I was pretty sure it would be red. With a Christmas play, it seems like red or green are your only options and since the play’s about a vampire, well, let’s just say I figured the odds were less than 50/50.
Turns out, I was right…
Although I was expecting a little more “red wine” and less “fire engine” but what can...
