How does profitability rearrange your priorities when it comes to writing?

Internet.How are you?
I feel like it’s been ages since I’ve written a blog post. Iapologizefor that. Sometimes time gets away from me.
Today marks the first day of the June Camp NaNoWriMo. I signed up not because I have time to write another novel but because I have so many writing projects that need to be done by the end of the summer that I thought it would be a fun way to motivate myself to get a really solid start on some of...

The curious poetry of the angry eBay buyer
I was selling a batch of items on eBay of a type I usually don’t sell. Lots of buyers wanted to wait until all the listings were over to combine shipping which is fine and encouraged. When all the listings are over, I gave everyone a few days and then emailed all the buyers who [...]

Which of your My Little Ponies did you give a sex change?
In the dark days before Hasbro finally gave us male ponies, many of us resorted to improvising and declaring certain ponies male even if Hasbro said otherwise. I had a friend who used to insist that you had to make all the “yucky ones” boys but it turns out that every friend I had had [...]

The basic problem with me and caffeine

Turkish Tea (Photo credit: dimi)
I have a strangerelationshipwithcaffeine. A normal person has a cup of coffee and it wakes them up. That much caffeine cracks me out so badly you’d think I was hitting the really hard stuff. If I drink coffee, it needs to be when I’m either completelyexhausted(read as, undead) or when there are many hours between that cup and bedtime. The rare time when I do have a cup of coffee with my husband, we make it half decaf and even that messes me up. So coffee is not...

Tying my hair back, getting down to business just like Violet Baudelaire
I madly loved Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events series. One of the running themes of the book is that the oldest Baudelaire child, Violet, can’t think properly unless her hair is tied back (she’s an inventor). I love this detail because I find the feeling of hair on the back of my neck to be VERY distracting so I always tie it back when I sit down to work. I can have my hair down all night if I’m out with friends but when I sit down to work, I always hit the point when it starts t...

Reviews and News Coverage from Gallatin County High School’s production of The Love of Three Oranges
This past March 22, 2012 – March 23, 2012, Gallatin County High School in Warsaw, KY put on The Love of Three Oranges. Even though their run ended a while ago, they just got some media coverage this past week that I wanted to highlight.
First is a review of the show entitled: Gallatin County High School’s ‘The Love of Three Oranges’ sent audiences home in stitches (which always makes me picture the audience bleeding horribly and being rolled out in gurneys.)
The second article, which I thought...

Maurice Sendak and The Love of Three Oranges
Beloved children’s author Maurice Sendak, best known for his book Where the Wild Things Are, passed away today at 83.
But I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that, amonghis beautiful illustrations and award winning books, he also designed a 1982 production of Sergei Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera (conducted by Bernard Haitink) which is one of the most famous productions of all time. Prokofiev’s opera, you may remember, is based on the same commedia del...
