This is a real brand of homemade eggnog. The maker of it and I may try to do a co-promotion in the near future. I’ll let you know when it happens.

Introducing the Santa Claus is a Vampire Evidence Files

In honor of Polar Twilight'spremierethis December and its first holiday season, I'm going to do something a little different this year. From now until New Year's Day, I'll be posting links, images, comics and quotes to support the ultimate Christmas conspiracy... that Santa Claus is, and has always been, a vampire.

I've never done an every day series on the blog before so I'm hoping it won't annoy anyone. Most of these posts will be very short, usually just the content and then the source. Kin...

Another NaNoWriMo comes to a close

NaNoWriMo 2012 is over.

I’m so tired.

But…

There’s always that thrill when you cross 50,000 words and see the whole staff of The Office of Letters and Light cheering for you on the winner page. That will never get old.I also wrote more this month (overall across several projects) than I did any other month of the entire year which is awesome and, in a way, the point of NaNoWriMo for us career writers. In general, I love NaNoWriMo and all the great community that it brings. I’m a lifer.

There’s al...

NaNoWriMo Constructive Cheating: Increase your word count & actually help your story

Words....

Words…. (Photo credit: jah~)

You don’t have enough words to reach 50,000 yet. Maybe you finished your story before you hit your target word count. Maybe you’re just feeling word weary and can’t seem to make your characters DO anything. Or maybe you’ve already hit 50,000 words but you just really want to write more to show That Guy Who is Always Writing More Than You. (I hate that guy.)

Either way, you need more words and pronto.

As much as I love Chris Baty’s No Plot, No Problem, this is one of...

NaNoWriMo Pep Talk: There’s no such thing as too far behind

Every year I end up telling at least a few people about my friend Elmore. That’s author Elmore Hammes aka thekanapolisfog over on the NaNoWriMo site if you want to buddy him. He’s not only written MANY books and short stories, he’s also won every single NaNo since 2003. I asked him to pop by to write up this week’s pep talk but it’s actually not for any of the reasons I just mentioned.

It’s because, every November, Elmore goes on a 2 week long volunteer mission trip where he has very little ac...
