Read in French without looking up words
If you're interested in learning French, and want to start with reading from day one without needing to look up words, this is the book for you. Simple but original French stories about different concepts with a word for word interlinear French translation. A lot of words are memorized automatically just by reading, as you will encounter them on every page (for example with articles or personal pronouns) or in every chapter (often used words about weather or certain actions like do, go, eat, walk, etc). Other more rare words you can mark with a pencil (always be nice to your books) and repeat by yourself by re-reading their paragraphs every day.

This paperback has a story for every letter in the (French) alphabet. "Âne" is a short tale about dealing with bullies, "Bélier" relates about a girl who keeps forgetting to close the door behind her and this way lets the ram into the house, "Canard" is the well known story about the ugly duckling, "Demoiselle" is a paragraph about why dragonflies are called "miss" in French, "Escargot" is a story about two snails trying to find a wife for their son, "Fourmi" continues this story as the ants come to the rescue, "Gâteau" is about the best way to divide a cake, "Hirondelle" tells about swallows, "Ibis" about... yes, an Ibis, "Jouets" is a story about how sticks are a cheap and better substitute for expensive toys, and "Kangourou" is about the famous antipodian creature jumping around on two legs, "Loup" the story about the Wolf and the seven kids, "Moineau" about sparrows and a cat trying to catch them, "Neige" about snow, "Oreille" a story with a wink placed in Noah's ark, "Pois" the story about the Princess and the pea, "Queue" a story about a rat family, "Rossignol" is the story of the Emperor and the Nightingale, "Sapin" about a travelling tree, "Tortue" about a race between tortoises, "Univers" the story about the term Universe, "Violettes" is a story about the Violet, "Xavier" about a boy that wants it all, "Yvonne" relates about a girl who just can't sit still at the table, with some very serious consequences, and finally, "Zero" just sums up that if you don't learn, you're a ...

The HypLern Method
Interlinear texts have been around for thousands of years, but were until recently only available for classical languages like Greek and Latin. Now instead of having to read bland readers or foreign literature with a dictionary in hand, you can read in the foreign language of your choice without the need of looking up words, while expanding your vocabulary fast and easy.
The HypLern method simply consists of reading and re-reading the book, or by chapter, and learning high and medium frequency words just like that, while then marking difficult low frequency words and re-reading those paragraphs separately. The association of the story helps memorization and this method allows you to master a lot of words in a fun way :)

Try free interlinear texts at HypLern to learn read languages
At HypLern we're creating interlinear material and audio to offer to language learners for free. The links to Amazon below are to our products in Kindle and Paperback format, that we sell to create more texts in more languages and to create voice overs. That means the money for the sales is used to support the HypLern project and pay for translations we can't do ourselves and audio. We're doing this in our free time and currently have created over 500k words already of interlinear translated texts.

Modern and Classical
Reading and learning foreign languages with interlinear material has been around for thousands of years. Recently there has been a renaissance of the interlinear method with various published works in German, Russian, French and other languages.
Interlinear material enables you to read in a foreign language of your choice, and literally look up words in the flash of an eye. Expanding your vocabulary will be fast and easy. The trick is to discipline yourself to just read the original foreign language, and look up words only when necessary. If you're having trouble using a piece of paper to cover the meanings might help.
The HypLern Reader apps or the hyplern.com website also offer you the possibility of reading the material in another format. Interlinear on-demand, where clicking a word shows its meaning, or pressing the screen will show the interlinear temporarily, or the pop-up format, where clicking a word will show a pop-up with the meaning of the word you're reading, for those language students that are not charmed by the interlinear method.
In the end, interlinear and pop-up reading of texts makes learning new words and understanding the foreign language structure fast and easy. Memorizing vocabulary is strengthened by the associative effect of the story and the amount of new words in a story is much larger than in lesson based courses. However, we advise new students to have a basic knowledge of the foreign language's grammar and vocabulary before starting to read the sometimes advanced interlinear material we have on offer.

Ways to use Interlinear material
You can use interlinear material just by reading it. If you discipline yourself to read and re-read and only look at meanings when you need to, you will learn the high frequency vocabulary of a foreign language in no time. Learning low frequency words is more difficult, especially if they have unfamiliar or unique roots.
For one, the association of the story will help you memorize even difficult words, but using regular practice for those words is a good way to internalize them fast, and by marking them in your pdf or book and re-reading those paragraphs with the marked difficult words it will be relatively easy and fun compared to not-so-good old cramming word lists.
Apart from marking words, in our spare time we are building a web site that will support word practice and also reading in other formats, like interlinear on-demand, which shows the interlinear when clicking a word or a whole paragraph, and the pop-up format, which shows a regular text and a pop-up with a meaning when a word is clicked. There are already apps that are doing this which you can find on this site and which you can also get for free if you contact us.

Interlinear French E-Books and Paperbacks
If you like reading, being able to expand your vocabulary of a language while reading sounds great. That is, without having to grab a dictionary or having to search through alternative meanings of an online dictionary every other sentence.
