A Long Journey

Hello friends,

A few years ago, disillusioned with writing and looking for a medium that made me feel joyful about telling stories again, I started fooling around with a satire of “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” constructed out of digital collage and a sort of sci-fi pulp inspired free verse. 

Some of my subscribers have been here long enough to remember these ugly abominations. But… after a lot of trial and error, I got it into a shape I liked, and now, I have released print and Apple ebook versions of the first issue, with more to come.

I hope you enjoy them. I’m kinda astonished by how many there are. I guess these are for sale, but I’m not sure how that would work.

Changed my Mind

I decided to try doing Sea of Hearts in this style until it gets cool again. I think I will be more productive. I think the reason there are so few hand-painted comics is that it’s fucking insane to try to do it.

A little test. As Moses plays his Super Funtendo game Final Fortress 2, he imagines himself as Dark Knight Moses, the hero of the story.

I got his fingers backwards. Now I have to put that on this:

Unfortunately, it’s way to hot to paint, even inside. The heat is getting into the mid-110s here, and there’s no end in sight. I miss it.

I’m trying to think of a new title for this spin-off project.

The difficulty I’ve been having with Sea of Hearts is the slowness of the process. I was very productive when I was painting outside, but it’s damn hot now, and I’m just not too keen on painting inside despite my continued attempts. So, the story is running faster in my head than it does on canvas, which is frustrating.

I also want to practice my drawing more. I feel pretty comfortable painting now, but I’m still very hesitant and insecure about actually drawing figures.

This universe I’ve created is just such a fun playground for me, and I can pretty much throw anything into it. So, I’m trying to explore it from different angles.
