TBT: Alien Revolt

Impossible odds?

They had forces? Hope’s elation grew to hear of a plot against Copeland. “How many of your ships are involved?”
“Just mine, but it’s the whole crew.”
Piras added, “We are here to infiltrate Maf’s fleet and undermine it as much as possible. To take as much of it out of the fight as we can.”
“This is a fraction of the Basma’s force,” Hope said, her delight draining away. “You brought only one ship against a whole armada?”
“Unfortunately. But we’re damned good at what we do.” Piras sighed. “I’d hoped to be in the thick of things, in the midst of the main enemy fleet, in all honesty. This was not what Fleet Command had in mind when they sent us out here.”
“Plans must change,” Kila told him. He turned his somehow inoffensive sneer back to Hope. “What about your resources? I couldn’t get a real handle on how many are in your resistance effort.”
Hope made a face. “Dismal. Few and far between.”
Kila’s grin fell a little. “I was hoping it was better than how it appeared.”
Hope tried to absorb this turn of events. “You came out here to cripple Maf’s fleet. To take out Copeland too, I hope.”
Piras nodded. “Copeland is still a worthwhile prize to be won. It wasn’t the original plan, but we’re concentrating on rescuing Haven and Rokan at this point. Particularly Haven, with all those civilians. If we can make it happen, we’ll redirect our attention elsewhere, in hopes of getting our hands on Maf.”
“With one ship. And our help, which admittedly, won’t be much help at all.” Hope grimaced. “Will you mind if I’m not too optimistic on your chances against over five hundred ships?”
“We’ve got a few tricks which will help even the odds,” Lokmi said. His gaze hadn’t strayed from her face the entire time they’d talked, as if he were as riveted by her as she was with them. Hope glanced from one man to the next to the next, fascinated by how such different faces and bodies could be equally delightful to gaze at. Good night, was she ever getting bonus material for her lust files. Her sex spasmed.
“Tricks, huh? Like your phase ability,” she noted, telling herself to stop getting distracted. Her response to these three men was asking for trouble.

Friday Fiver Challenge

Five clues pointing to a Kalquor universe character. Do you know your Kalquor?

1. I feel pretty, oh so pretty...or at least I look pretty to my Matara.

2. I've had some pretty serious doubts about my leadership skills.

3. Okay, so maybe I was off about a Matara fixing everything wrong with my clan...but you gotta admit, she did do us a lot of good.

4. I've learned to not take my superiors' word for anything. Especially when my boss is a homicidal maniac.

5. May I escort any of you ladies to a pleasure club?

Who am I?

TBT: Aiien Hostage

Hostile Nobeks facing off...

Ket loomed in the doorway with at least a dozen uniformed Nobeks at his back. Wekniz drew in fresh air, the relief of doing so momentarily overriding the danger he was in. Then he looked over his visitors and his protective instincts rose. He glowered at the hardcase group before him.
“What the fuck do you want, Ket? Your brother isn’t here.”
Wekniz was pretty sure Falinset must have gone on one of his beach walks. If he’d been home, he’d have been in the middle of the bedlam.
Ket gave Wekniz an unimpressed look, not concerned with the man’s obvious displeasure.  “Hello, Wekniz. I caught your scent in the woods on our way over.”
“Good for you. I like to hunt at night on my property. Got a problem with it?”
“Funny, since I smelled your stench on Dramok Maf’s land too. As for any problem I might have with your trespassing, it depends on what you may have caught.”
“Not a damned thing.” Wekniz looked over the deadly faces ranged behind Ket. “Speaking of trespassing, what’s with the big crowd you’ve brought to my doorstep? What are combat troops doing in this area?”
“We’re looking for someone. But you know that, don’t you? The trail we followed says you weren’t alone.”
Wekniz played dumb, though he and Ket both knew he was lying through his teeth. “I was by myself. As I told you, Falinset is out. He wasn’t with me on my hunt either, so you are obviously mistaken.”
Ket grinned, a thoroughly unpleasant sight. But then anything to do with Ket’s face was an unpleasant sight to Wekniz. “If you’ve brought nothing home of interest, then you shouldn’t mind if we have a look around.”
Wekniz folded his arms over his chest. “As a matter of fact, I do mind.”
Ket’s grin turned into a sneer. He looked back at his men. They all raised blasters and aimed them at Wekniz.
Ket said to Wekniz, “Let’s try this again. Do you mind if we have a look around?”

Friday Fiver Challenge

Five clues about a character from the Kalquorian universe. Can you guess who it is?

1. A jealous man once tried to steal my Matara. He's dead now.

2. I don't dance, but I certainly admire those who do.

3. Keeping up with my employer is a full-time job, with tons of overtime...a royal pain in the butt, but I wouldn't trade it for the empire.

4. Gardens, the altars of ancient forgotten deities-these spell romance to me.

5. "Freak" is probably my least favorite word.

TBT: Alien Indiscretions

What did that naughty Dramok do?

The men moved off. Cissy followed a chuckling Lindsey to where they could talk in relative privacy.“Spill the beans,” she urged her cousin. “What’s up with that Dramok Diltan?”
Lindsey wrinkled her nose as she eyed the councilman still chatting up Tasha. “I’m not at liberty to go into details, but know he’s something of a status-seeker.”
“Not at liberty?” Cissy frowned at the other woman.
Lindsey shrugged. “I made a promise that I would not discuss my specific objections to the man, not to anyone. I want to keep peace anyway. He invested the bulk of the capital that got my clan’s businesses started.”
Cissy looked at the devastatingly handsome Dramok with narrowed eyes. “Uh oh. You owe money to a guy you don’t like?”
Lindsey waved a dismissive hand. “Oh, he made back his investment. We don’t owe him a thing now.” She made a face. “In truth, I should let bygones be bygones. He didn’t charge us interest or keep any profit he was entitled to. I’m not a good Buddhist when it comes to Diltan.”
“Having trouble unloading past grudges? That’s one of my stumbling blocks too.” Cissy recited the lesson her late father had done his best to get her to heed. “Holding onto grievances only extends the harm done. Forgiveness cures the heart.”
Lindsey nodded. “Still, you know how it is when someone pulls a stunt that you pretty much regard as unforgivable.”
