Pappardelle with Fresh Pesto and Chicken (oh my!)
Last week I was in the mood for pasta. AND I was determined to make use of the bumper crop of fresh basil growing in my herb garden. It’s been a stellar summer for herb-growing, and I refuse to let a single leaf go to waste. So I whipped up a delicious platter of pappardelle with fresh pesto and chicken.
Pesto is easy to make. After tasting the homemade version, you’ll never buy pesto from a jar again.
Soooooo fine…Of course, once you make homemade pesto, you gotta...

Sunday Letter: 08.26.18

Dear Sunday Letter friends,
Have you been outside this morning? Here in Fayetteville, the new morning feels flapjack flat, sketched onto paper with muted colored pencils, moist as a rung-out dishrag used to wipe down kitchen counters. Yes, it’s going to be another don’t-bother-with-your-hair sort of day.
Just like yesterday.
Even though hot and humid is my least favorite type of weather, I’ll gladly accept it and try my best to do something creative with it. With yesterday’s passing of Senat...

Visit Denver Botanic Gardens with me!
Oh my! Last weekend, John and I spent a few hours at the Denver Botanic Gardens. What a gorgeous garden chockfull of mature hedges, unusual plantings, native Colorado beauties, exotic water lilies, profuse succulent gardens, absolute heaven on earth.
The dahlia abovewas as large as a dinner plate.
I took a million photos (#slightexaggeration) and could have stayed the entire weekend.
Guess what? As members of the Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks… our admission was FREE. Reciprocity is a great...

Sunday Letter: 08.19.18
Dear Sunday Letter friends,
Good morning from Denver! I’m visiting my son who lives in the Mile High City, so yes, I’m a happy momma right now. Until this weekend, I’d not seen him since Christmas. That’s hard on the soul. But that’s what happens when family is spread out and everyone’s busy with work and life. I fear this Sunday Letter will be short and sweet because, well, I’m in Colorado.
Sleestak in my GardenLast week while spreading mulch at our little rental cottage, I noticed a katyd...

Why go to a writer conference?
Why go to a writer conference? (Or any conference for that matter.) Because there’s a huge upside beyond the incredible pool, breakfast buffet, and time away from responsibility of home.
I recently returned from the annual Florida Authors and Publishers Association Conference (FAPA) in Orlando, and thought I’d not only summarize my experience but possibly convince you to attend that event you’ve been sitting on the fence about. Sometimes we don’t do the things we want to do because that litt...

Succulent Teapots
What’s inspiring me today? These adorable succulent teapots! I don’t take credit for any of these creations beyond noticing them at White River Nursery and snapping pictures. But noticing is the first step to all the fabulous future steps.
Don’t they look happy?
Dancing a jig happy!
I’m a succulent teapot, short and stout. ♬
Here is my handle, here is my spout.

Sunday Letter: 08.12.18

Dear Sunday Letter buddies,
I’m back! Sorry I missed writing my Sunday Letter last week. I attended an author and publisher conference in Florida which threw me off schedule. Hopefully absence really does make the heart grow fonder?

Silvery Checkerspot Caterpillars!
How about a quick gardening lesson this morning? About the Silvery Checkerspot Caterpillar that’s doing a number on my echinacea? Seriously! I was only in Orlando one weekend. But during that time, my coneflowers became infested to the point they are downright Halloween-y-ish.
I told you fall was coming early this year…
Ghosts of coneflowers past.
See?
Pretty awful looking, right?
The good news is this infestation is only affecting the coneflowers in the back forty. Okay, not really the ba...

Book Reviews: July 2018

July 2018 Book Reviews: This month in particular (it seems), I started several books I didn’t finish. I never review books I don’t finish. The books I do review have something to offer the reader even when I may not give each of them glowing five stars.
What makes me not finish a book? I recently quit one because by page 20 there were already soooo many characters (all with silly names), and I couldn’t keep them straight. The other was a biography written by a popular actress. Right off, I j...

Sunday Letter: 07.29.18
Dear Sunday Letter Faithful,
(Portions of this post are sponsored by Cobblestone Farms. Opinions are my own.)
I always start summer with a mile-high list of dreamy things I plan to do yet life soaks up bits and pieces of my days, and here I sit with coffee in hand wondering what on earth happened to July?
Just yesterday, we were talking about those days when we bravely shot Roman candles with young, bare hands. Today, our thoughts vault to back-to-school and football. Well, mine have.
