Sunday Letter: 04.03.22

Sunday Letter

Dear Sunday Letter friends,

Whew. What a crazy weather week. An E-3 tornado touched down during the early morning hours of Wednesday only a few miles from our home in Fayetteville. It moved northeast into Springdale leaving behind property damage, injuries, and power outages.

Thursday it snowed at our house.

Friday = warm and sunny.

I fear we are all in for a long and destructive storm season this spring. Worse than normal, I think. I’m not a qualified weather girl, but I do have several decade...

Best Ever Homemade Granola!

Best Ever Homemade Granola

This is seriously the best ever homemade granola. Once you realize how easy it is to make, you’ll never again buy granola from the grocery store. (Sorry, grocery stores.) If you aren’t a granola-eating person, you might want to give it another try. This homemade granola is not only yummy, addictive, and filled with healthy ingredients, but the recipe is adaptable.

You can tweak it to include your favorite flavors.

It will keep you company while you work, read a book, or catch up on your DVRd sh...

Sunday Letter: 03.20.22

Sunday Letter

Good morning, Sunday Letter friends and HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING!

E x h a l e.

We survived Old Man Winter again. I gotta be honest—there were days I thought winter would never end. I’m exaggerating a bit, (but not really).

Nature teaches us so many lessons if only we would listen and see and learn.

All the daffodil and crocus bulbs buried in our flower beds, all the tree roots reaching deep into the soil, the robins and chickadees and Carolina wrens, the squirrels that are busy unburying walnu...

Sunday Letter: 03.06.22

Sunday Letter

Dear Sunday Letter friends,

Isn’t it incredible how we can go from being buried in ice one week to admiring spring blooms the next? Our crocus is blooming. Daffodils are celebrating the sun. Tiny ephemeral blossoms are now appearing in the grass.

I admire these first bloomers so much. They are hardy and determined and oh-so-welcome in late winter. And this past week’s warm weather? Yes, yes, yes! I spent most of the past three days working outside, trimming eight rose bushes, shaping our redbud...

Book Reviews February 2022

Not enough to say grace over, but still I’m required to tell you.

A new month—welcome March!!!—means book reviews for you.📚

February is a short month, and that’s my excuse for only having five book reviews to share—one written by a local Arkansas author, a bestseller, a classic (extra points because it has been included on banned book lists here and there throughout the years), a recent release, and a coming soon novel.

Com...

Sunday Letter: 02.27.22

Sunday Letter

Dear Sunday Letter friends,

February is nearly gone. Hopefully when it leaves it will take all the ice with it. I’m ready for all the blooming plants. I want to see soil that isn’t covered in ice. I want to go home to the farm and watch tractors and planters moving through the fields. New life sprouting in straight rows—ahhh! Doesn’t that sound nice?

Leo Tolstoy wrote the two most powerful warriors are patience and time.

That’s the truth.

Time is a precious commodity—I feel it in my bones. Stil...

Sunday Letter: 02.20.22

Sunday Letter

We have more wintry weather headed our way this week, but spring is just around the corner. 28 days away to be exact. Even if I’d not calculated the time until spring, I would know based on nature’s signs.

Our hellebores are in full bloom. Soon, tiny crocus will line the sidewalk leading to our porch. Tulips have begun peeking through the dried leaves in our beds. I’ve noticed a few sunny dandelions blooming in brittle grass.

But the busy robins? They are surely a harbinger of spring.

I watch t...

Sunday Letter

Dear Sunday Letter friends,

Today is Super Bowl Sunday, and tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. Will you watch the Super Bowl and/or celebrate Valentine’s Day?

One is an excellent excuse to eat an entire bowl of cheese dip; the other, a pound of chocolate. (Two of the best food groups!) But may I remind you—you don’t need an excuse to enjoy either food. You may, however, need cheese and chocolate to fully enjoy the festivities associated with each—ha.

Speaking of cheese dip…

Sunday Letter: 02.06.22

Sunday Letter

Dear Sunday Letter friends,

Good morning to you! With coffee in hand, I’m ready to tackle another week. How about you?

Last week was a good one for several reasons.

First of all, we had a fabulous snowfall in Fayetteville. Everything unfolded just as our local weather guy predicted, starting with freezing rain on Wednesday afternoon which quickly changed to sleet. While we slept, the snow began falling in earnest. We woke to a quiet magical world with several inches. Then, the snow continued to...
