On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King

For most aspiring Authors looking to better hone your craft, Stephen King's book, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft is a must read. It is half Autobiography and half writing "how to". For anyone old enough, they will remember when Stephen King was hit by a vehicle while out taking a walk. This book was started before that incident and completed afterward.

This book is quite frequently on lists of must reads for any Author. After reading it, I highly recommend it to any Author looking to better their craft.

I would love to hear feedback from everyone if you have/do read it.

With Angel's Wings by Stephanie Collins

With Angel's Wings written by Stephanie Collins is a biographical story about her struggles with having a special needs daughter being born while her husband was deployed overseas. Without giving away too much, she struggled through numerous uncertainties with her daughter clinging to life, due to multiple heart defects and health issues stemming from those defects. Along with dealing with all these overwhelming trials, she also struggled with clinical depression.

This story is a must read. I picked it up at every opportunity. "With Angel's Wings" is both inspiring and harrowing.

The Namaste Club by Tim I Gurung

The Namaste Club written by Tim I. Gurung is the story of four friends who met at a specific location every week to spend time together, visit with one another, and discuss a multitude of topics. After their meeting place is destroyed in a fire the four friends struggle to find balance amid a myriad of personal setbacks. The friends are plagued with everyday difficulties as well as personal loss and injury.
The story had great characters and plot. The story read similar to a descriptive play in the sense that all of the characters and locations were described, in detail, at the very beginning of the story, before any of the plot is told. Personally, this writing style seemed to detract from the story.

Over all, the story was good and had a decent ending. There were a few lines within the story that jumped out at me.
Gurung's family charity (ISSLCARE) is completely funded from sales of his books.

You can learn more about Tim on his website: www.timigurung.com and follow him on twitter: www.twitter.com/TimGurung.

Review of Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle In Time Series

The "A Wrinkle In Time" Series, written by Madeleine L'Engle is a classic series that has been loved by generations.

Individually, the five books in the series are great. As an entire series, however, it is lackluster. The force the characters are fighting with in the first three stories, is phased out completely by the fourth novel.

The individual plots and story lines on their own were great. Each had great substance of characters, action, and conflict to keep them entertaining from cover to cover.

I believe with the entire scope though with the last books in the series in comparison of the other stories she fell short as a whole.

Stage 3 by Ken Stark

Stage 3Stage 3, is about Hank Mason's struggle to survive after waking up in a world plagued by zombies. Along the way he meets Mackenzie, a girl trying to reach her Aunt and is suffering from blindness that is one of the beginning indications of the virus.

Through the story the reader is taken on a story of bonding, growth, and survival that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Other than a few words being misspelled and a couple missing words here or there, it wasn't anything that detracted from the momentum of the story.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a thrill ride of a read!

Reviews

Hello, Everyone! I hope all of my US followers had a wonderful Thanksgiving. My apologies for missing last weeks post. Dad was visiting for a week and then health issues had me in bed all day last Thursday.

I would like to briefly discuss reviews in today's post. Writing a review can be unnerving at times. "Do I be truthful?" "Do I be nice and bend the truth a bit?"
The truth is...most authors want you to be honest. Reviews let us know what we're doing right and what we're doing wrong. The also let us know how we can improve on the type of writing our readers are liking and less of what disinterests them.

Reviews also play a huge part in Amazon's algorithm as to how much a book/story is viewed on the search pages.

If you're not one for writing lengthy posts, a star rating even helps. You don't have to leave a novel length review. The star ratings even figure into the algorithm.

Like I said, this week's post would be short. I just got done with my weekend and have to work the next five days. I will try and think of a post topic for next week's blog post.

Thank you again to all the readers! Remember to support Indie-Authors and for God's sake...leave a review.

Regaining Power

Good Morning, Everyone! It's Friday! I hope this post finds all of you well.
This will be my second to last post for the week. After tomorrow's post I will be dropping down to weekly blog posts.
The topic for today's post is "Regaining Power". It is a short story I wrote initially for a competition. I didn't get it finished in time for the deadline so I decided to self-publish it instead. The topic of the contest was write something that happens in a dark room.
A basement came to mind when I read the parameters of the contest, and then my mind went one step darker. I automatically thought of a person being murdered in the basement and the murderer trying to cover up the evidence. The darkness went even further, and the idea came to mind to have it be a wife trying to free herself of an abusive relationship by killing her husband and trying to hide the body.

Claire Chritensen was a nurse who had been mentally and physically abused by her husband for three years. She could see no way out and decided to take matters into her own hands.
She decided that she would set everything up while he's at work and then torture him and show him the kind of pain he had put her through for three years.

The story was written as fiction and isn't a "how to" story. Domestic Violence is a very serious issue.
Here is the statistic page from The National Domestic Violence Hotline: http://www.thehotline.org/resources/s...

If you are a victim of or know someone who is a victim of Domestic Violence, the site has many avenues to get help. Do not stay silent on the issue. There are many deaths every year due to abusive relationships. The key is to speak out to someone, anyone. Do not remain silent or you or someone close to you may only be heard through a thundering memory.
