TidBit Tuesday: DREAMER Excerpt

Yikes! Has It Been A Week Since I Blogged?
This week has been a bit hectic, both at the day job and the run-up to NaNoWriMo and of course, Halloween. My neighborhood gets approximately eighty-thousand trick-or-treaters so it’s an event that must be planned for and executed.
Anyway, I meant to do a What’s Up Wednesday but yesterday just got away from me. Really, there’s not a huge amount to report but here are the highlights:
Still waiting on pins and needles for word about the next book. It’s been a busy month for my editor with two Cons and an office move, so I’m trying not to bug her but I really want this book to be a go. I love, love, love my main girl and her ghostly sidekick.

ARC’s for DREAMER are now circulating among the book bloggers and conference attendees, and several have reached out to tell me how amazing they thought it was (yay!) and that it finished out the series beautifully. So that’s a happy. A big, big happy.

My NaNoWriMo project is not YA but Chick-Lit, but that didn’t stop me from getting a terrific idea for another YA book day before yesterday and sketching out an outline. Because I’m nuts like that.

I’m posting a NaNoWriMo tip every day at noon on Twitter this month, gleaned from my vast stockpile of saved links and articles. Check it out!

And that, my friends, is all the news that’s fit to print. Stay tuned because next week I’m throwing out a juicy DREAMER excerpt!!

I saw it on her face in those last moments . . .

She was afraid.
Even though her own death was a sure thing, unalterable, she was afraid.
For who?

What Kind Of Crazy Person Does NaNoWriMo? This Kind!
I know, I know. I’m already a published author. Why NaNo?
Plenty of published authors do, actually. It’s a great way to stretch your writer brain and the camaraderie is amazing. And there’s this Chick-Lit project I’ve been pushing off for over a year now. This is the perfect opportunity to get a chunk of (or all of) that out of the way.
So yes, I’m doing the NaNo thang. And here’s my title (and since it’ll be Chick-Lit, it’s under the non-YA moniker this time):

One Of My Favorite Quotes About Writing
[image error]
“Three things are in your head: First, everything you have experienced from the day of your birth until right now. Every single second, every single hour, every single day. Then, how you reacted to those events in the minute of their happening, whether they were disastrous or joyful. Those are two things you have in your mind to give you material. Then, separate from the living experiences are all the art experiences you’ve had, the things you’ve learned from other writers, artists, poets, film directors, and composers. So all of this is in your mind as a fabulous mulch and you have to bring it out.”
~ Ray Bradbury, from Zen and the Art of Writing

And This Is How The Weekend Went
[image error]
Me: All right. I am going to open this laptop now and get some work done on that new project I want to start. The kids are gone all weekend. I have no excuses. I must write. You can’t edit a blank page.
Also Me: It is known.
Still Me: It is known!

I watch them all, helpless . . .

I’m sorry, Mother. It’s the only prayer I know, and I pray it as the blackness takes me.
