#WomenofSciFi – Interview with JENNIFER FOEHNER WELLS

P.K. Tyler – Your first book Fluency focuses on NASA and UFO’s. How much and what kind of research did you do about UFO’s and NASA before writing the book?
Jen Wells – I did extensive research into everything NASA, from reading biographies of astronauts, to studying diagrams and blueprints of various capsules and space suits and other life support equipment–mainly a lot of stuff that was in the earliest stages of development at that time in 2012 and 2013. So, for example, I studied every...

#WomenofSciFi – Interview with Rysa Walker

Today’s featured interview is with author Rysa Walker, whose book Timebound won the 2013 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards. Rysa is currently working on her second series, The Delphi Project. Rysa Walker grew up more than 10 miles from the closest library, where all the books she wanted weren’t available, and when she grew up she may or may not have made a deal with the devil to make Kindle’s a thing. Her love of science fiction has been with her since childhood, and both her grandmothers...

#WomenofSciFi – Dark Beyond the Stars

Patrice Fitzgerald has been here before for my Women in Science Fiction series, but today, she’s come back specifically to talk about her anthology seriesDark Beyond the Stars. The first anthology got some unexpected attention for featuring only women authors. As usual, the gender divide is alive and well. The second collection released today and while it contains some men this time, Patrice’s commitment to diversity and supporting women in a genre which often ignores us is alive and well...

I am, yet again, a misogynist

Not for the first time, due to my writing, I have been accused of being a misogynist. No, I’m not going to link to the accusationbecause I don’t want tobe accused of disputing a review. The person who said this is well within their rights to have this opinion and I have zero problem with them expressing it. They are welcome to post it wherever they’d like without interference or upset on my part. I welcome discussion and commentary in all forms.

The fact is, I’ve heard this accusation before....

How To Write with a Co-Writer – Writing Partner Pitfalls and Successes

As many of you know, Jessica West and I co-wrote the Serial Novel Sin Eaterwhich released last fall. As we’re gearing up to start working on Season Two I wanted to take a little time to reflect on the process of collaboration, co-writing, and some of the really important things we learned by doing this.

I’ve tried co-writing before, and it has never worked out. Some of the reason for that is ego (both mine and the other persons) and some of that is expectations. On my part I almost always end...
