Editors and Authors Working Together – Track Changes – P.K. Tyler and Crystal Watanabe #amediting
Pavarti: Getting edits back is both the most exciting and most depressing point in the writing process for me. It’s the most exciting because things are moving forward, my work is closer to its awesome potential. The flip side is, of course, that now I have to face all the things that need to be fixed! At some point as I’m wading through the red littering my once pristine manuscript, I hit a wall of depression and wish someone could just deal with all of this for me.
But that w...

Binti by Nnedi Okorafor #BookReview #SciFi #DiverseBooks
Yesterday, I sat down to start BINTI by Nnedi Okorafor. I knew it was a novella, on the short side, probably a fast read, but I was not prepared for how completely it pulled me in and made me it’s bitch. This book is deserving of all the attention it’s received, and more, and I’m delighted to say that a sequel is coming out in January – I’ve already pre-ordered my copy.
BINTI is unique in that it is not only squarely positioned in a woman’s POV, it’s squarely positioned in a minority woman’s...

SEVENEVES by Neil Stephenson #BookReview #SciFi #EpicSciFi
This book people. It’s a monster, it’s huge, it’s brilliant, it’s been infiltrating my dreams. It’s so much that I’m not even sure how to start writing a review for it. There’s a little bit of something every sci-fi lover will enjoy but if you’re into Hard Science Fiction and World Building, this shit is for you.
SEVENEVES is split into 3 sections – Pre-Agent (before the Moon essentially explodes), Post-Zero (the years after the moon explodes and detailing the mission to get as much of humani...

#AuthorsofSciFi – Interview with Daniel Arthur Smith
It’s no secret I have a little crush on Daniel Smith. I’ve been in a few projects with him, and every time I read something he writes, I’m always astounded by his talent and the breadth of work he’s able to create. Plus he’s funny and smart and the eminent gentleman. I’m proud to have him as a friend and thrilled to have the chance to spotlight him on my blog today for all of you to enjoy. Get to know my buddy Daniel below and then check out his website where you can sign up for his newsl...
The proper care and feeding of Pav #AuthorMaintenance
The summer didn’t go quite the way I planned. I thought I would write the novel follow up toThe Second Sex – I didn’t. I also thought I’d be doing more mom stuff, but these kids have camps and friends and all kinds of things. I’m becoming vestigial. I did take a lot of time to think and plan and reflect though, sometimes while floating in the pool, so it hasn’t been a waste.
I’ve also had a lot of mental health stuff come up, mostly good, some tiring, but it’s really helped me put things in p...

#AuthorsofSciFi – Interview with Marlin Desault
P.K. Tyler – You have a background working for the US Air Force, and managing aerospace and high tech companies. Did your work experience inform the setting, or plot devices for your first novel The Shroud of Eden?
Marlin Desault –Yes – Some of the chapters in Shroud of Eden involve discussions of high level policy. I used my experiences from policy meetings to shape some of my characters and their attitudes.
PKT By reading the description of your novel, it seems like its a dystopic fic...

Atlantia by Ally Condie #Review #YoungAdult #Sirens
Atlantia is an interesting book. It’s not really as sci-fi as I had hoped, it could have been, had more been discussed about the biology of the evolutionary changes discussed, but instead the author relied on the commonly understood mythos of sirens. I got the sense the author wasn’t as interested in exploring the science or culture as much as she was telling a character driven story. It was a decent story and the characters were well developed which kept me reading despite my person preferen...

#WomenofSciFi – Interview with S.M. Schmitz
S.M. Schmitz is a new to me author who I am thrilled to have on my blog today as a part of the Women in SciFi series. Not only is she a woman writing in the SciFi genre, she’s also using it as a way to discuss and explore gender roles and assumptions. I have to admit, after doing this interview, I’m super intrigued and am going to have to pick up a copy of at least a few of her books to check out. I signed up for her newsletter here:https://www.instafreebie.com/free/pLwvTand picked up a f...

Lilith’s Brood by Octavia Butler #amreading #BookReview #scifi
In June, I gave away a copy of one of my very favorite books Lilith’s Broodby Octavia Butler. I read it a long time ago and while I remembered bits and pieces of it, I thoroughly enjoyed re-immersing myself in this multi-faceted and completely unique world. I have never read anything else like this book, in terms of science fiction and in terms of world building. Butler’s ability to write the absolutely impossible and make it relatable and loveable is beyond impressive.
inLilith’s Brood we ar...
