Musings and Ramblings

While I was sitting at my desk, drawing a total blank in my mind while trying to write a few chapters in the Southern Zombies series book 5, a thought came to me.

My husband Bobby says he does not like any film with Freddy Krueger in it. I, on the other hand find Freddy quite entertaining.

His reasoning? Freddy can come to you through your dreams.

My reasoning? I have none.

Bobby is not a big horror fan. He will dodge a horror movie at any cost.

To me, fictionalized horror characters have never scared me. And by fictionalized, I mean Freddy, Jason and others in their category.

Now ask me about paranormal movies involving ghosts, demons and Satan and you will get a whole different answer.

Could it be that maybe supernatural and paranormal occurrences are thought to be real and are believed in by numerous people, whereas zombies, Freddie Krueger and Jason are fictionalized horror?

I remember the first horror movie I saw that actually had me terrified was The Exorcist, (William Friedkin 1973). This was and is still the scariest film I have ever watched. I think it has to be the scariest film in history, but that is just my opinion. The book is very unnerving too as there are many more scenes that weren’t in the movie.

Everyone has different beliefs. There are cultures in which people believe that others can be controlled by deviant forces. Who am I to say they are wrong?

So, yes, I voluntarily subject myself to horror films on a regular basis. I do, however, try to stay clear of any involving possession and demonic forces. Why? Because I believe in the paranormal and supernatural.

Am I wrong to? Who is to say?
