Book Banter EP 32.5: Kara Vogt, Kavo Creative

Hello My Happy People,

Today has felt like a Manic Monday. So many technical issues when trying to edit my podcast interview with Kara Vogt. The program I use to edit will often throw out an error message and I have to save the work in a new folder and then restart the program. If I do not save it into a new file, it will often save the error in the program and it will become corrupted and not work.

I have had this happen before with a podcast, but they were always ones where it was just me talking and I had to re-record the show. It was annoying and time consuming, but not really a big deal because I could just record it again. I have never had this happen with an interview though. I have always been very careful to make sure I had backup copies of the raw interviews so if there was an error (which it has done a few times) I can just go back to the raw interview and re-edit.

Today however, I was distracted and when the error message popped up, I forgot to save as a copy and leave the original raw interview in tact. Thankfully after some searching online, I found a solution to recover the interview. We are getting this out late, but at least we have it!

We met in a female entrepreneur group online and I have had the great pleasure of watching her business grow through some amazing product videos on her site. Now she is teaching others how to create similar marketing videos to help them advance their businesses and connect with their audiences.

Manic Monday: Birthday Fun!!!

Hello My Happy People,

Today we will not have much of a blog as I am busy with family celebrating hitting yet another milestone birthday ... I'm 55 today!

P.R. baked me a cake and is now in making dinner. The rest of the night will be spent just relaxing and next Saturday we will be going to Destination Star Trek where I will get a photo with Kate Mulgrew on the bridge of Voyager to celebrate this birthday! Yes, I am a Trekkie and a total Sci-Fi nerd!

Friday Funnies: Date Night!

Hello My Happy People,

I hope this week has been wonderful for you wherever you are! We have had a very stressful week here just from everything we have been trying to get done and finished so we can get things settled for a short vacation in October. Luckily, every Friday night is "date" night in our home so we have that to look forward to tonight.

To celebrate date night, we always either go out for dinner and movie or order delivery and cuddle up on the couch for a night of usually Netflix, Disney, Marvel, or Star Wars binging. It works out great when you and your partner are nerds in the same way. Recently we have been watching She-Hulk and catching up on Better Call Saul. We are waiting on pins and needles for the release of Star Wars: Andor here later in September.

So what do you do for date nights? Do you prefer to go out, stay in, play boardgames, watch movies? Curious minds want to know! If we are not watching movies or TV shows we usually play cards. When one of the girls is visiting, we often play boardgames. P.R. can't get enough of Monopoly but it's not as fun when it is just the two of us playing. I even still have my complete Monopoly set from when I was a kid that was bought back in the 70s.

I need to go get a few more pages written on The Touch before we shut down for date night. So let's get on with the jokes!

Manic Monday: Stress is Evil!

Hello My Happy People!

I am a little late today, as you well know. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. As you can probably guess from the title of this blog, my weekend was stressful for me, P.R., and Shaggy. If you follow me, you probably know I have been frantically trying to find a regular sitter for Shaggy since our landlords can no longer watch him for us. This weekend the three of us were supposed to go meet a potential sitter I was really hopeful about, but things didn't work out as planned.

First, P.R. got stuck working so I had to take Shaggy on my own. If you know about Shaggy, you know he is a former street dog and has a lot of fear when out in public. He's not nearly as bad as he used to be, but still has some issues. So I was stressed before even leaving the house. Part of that was because I had no idea how much English the sitter could speak. I had been using a translator to write to her in German and P.R. had spoken with her on the phone also in German. Thankfully her English was WAY better than my German and we communicated easily.

However, by the time Shaggy and I found the meeting place (two trains and about an hour of travel) Shaggy was very stressed and had managed to slip out of his harness twice on the way there, which stressed me the h*ll out. The sitter turned out to be a lovely lady and I hope she can be a backup sitter for Shaggy, but after we sat chatting for a while she asked me again for the dates we needed Shaggy to be watched in October. Keep in mind, I had sent the dates to her twice in email before we even set up this face-to-face meeting. It was at this point, she told me she is not available for the days we need.

Now, if you know me, you know I do not tend to always do a good job holding my tongue when I'm not happy about something. However, I did actually like this woman and she and her dog were getting along well with Shaggy. It was only because of this I managed to keep my mouth shut about how annoyed I was that she had us come all the way out there, putting Shaggy (and me) through all that stress, when she is not even be available to watch Shaggy for the dates we need.

At that point we just said our goodbyes and headed home. Shaggy slipped his harness one more time on the way home. I have no idea how the little Houdini does it. I tightened the harness a few times while we were out and he still slipped it. By the time we got home we both needed a nap. Mine came after a large whiskey sour. I do not normally drink, especially if I'm upset, but it felt like a moral imperative yesterday.

Today came with a bit of hope. I remembered a woman who had been recommended to me a while back. We had started chatting on Messenger months ago, but for some reason we stopped talking. I searched my messages and we got back in touch. She watches dogs and can take Shaggy for the days we need pending a trial sleepover night. I am hopeful that she will work out. It would be so great for Shaggy. She has two cats and a dog so he would have plenty of playmates. Shaggy loves other dogs and cats, but cats don't always love how much he wants to play with them. Just being hopeful about her has made my stress level drop a bit. It will drop a lot more once she confirms we are good to go for the dates.

Another thing that is making my stress drop at this moment is Shaggy is peacefully sleeping at my feet and I am watching a live feed from Sarah Penney on TikTok (click red text to check her out). Her live chat is giving me the feeling of having some "girl dishing" time I haven't had in a long while. I do miss that! If you need a happy lift in your day, check her out! And yes, she does look a lot like Adele, but she is way more relatable.

Sometimes it can be hard living so far away from all my family and friends, no matter how much I love my life here. I would not give up my life here for anything, but it does come with stress. I think writing this crime novel is actually going to be a great stress release too. I was shocked how much better I felt after letting my dark side run amuck writing the killer. He is actually relieving some of my stress though I'm not sure if I should be worried about that or not. P.R. might want to worry about that more.

I am happy with how the book is coming along. I want to create a video to reveal The Touch cover very soon. I just haven't had time to work on it yet with the pet sitter search going on. I hope that will be settled here soon and then I can relax and just write, but how often have I hoped for that? Finger crossed, people!

Tomorrow I am joining my writers group online and I will be working on the next scene with them. I might do a sneak peek of it on my podcast this week since I will not have another guest interview until the 15th. Just a heads up. I will be taking a short vacation from everything in October. I really need it! So for at least two weeks, maybe three, I will not be doing blogs or the podcast unless I can get things done ahead of time and schedule them to post while we are on vacation. We will see.

Hello My Happy People,

The weather is stormy so that means I have a headache. Because of that, this will be another short and sweet blog. This weekend we will be meeting a woman who might end up being Shaggy's regular dog sitter, if we are lucky. Keep your fingers crossed for us, people. We really want to find someone who can be there for Shaggy everytime we have to go on a trip and can't take him with us. We do not want to have to use a bunch of different people. We want one person so Shaggy has that stability of being with someone familiar whenever he can't be with us.

This past week I have been working on building my TikTok following by doing some silly and fun Harley Quinn lip sync videos. Since I have been so Harley focused, I thought some Batman puns would be good for this Friday. I hope you enjoy them and if you are on TikTok, be sure to follow @burckhardt_books on there too.

I should tell (or warn) you that P.R. just bought me a new toy, a phone stand with motion tracking so I can make videos and have the camera follow me as I move around without needing a camera person. I will be doing a lot more interesting videos with this in the future, I am sure.

Manic Monday: Sneak Peek ... The Touch

Hello My Happy People,

Today really is a Manic Monday. I have been up since 6:30 this morning, running to doctors visits, shopping, helping P.R. get ready for an event coming up, and trying to line up someone to be a regular sitter for Shaggy when we need someone because our landlords, who have always watched Shaggy for us before, can no longer do it for very legitimate reasons, with which we understand and sympathize.

I want to secure someone now before we really have a need of a sitter for him so we won't get caught frantically searching for someone at the last minute. I will be meeting two women here in the next week or so. Cross your fingers for us that they are both a good fit. Finding two good ones we can use when we need would be amazing!

I'm going to cut this short today (I know I always write that but today I mean it!) because I still have more things around the house to get done and then WRITE! I am finding my groove again so I do not want to skip writing time.

So for your sneak peek today I am going to post the sneak peek I just posted on Tiktok. If you are on there, be sure to follow me. It is quick and easy to put updates on there so more than likely they will be hitting there first and here second. But if you aren't into TikTok, don't worry. Hello My Happy People,

I hope you have had a fantastic week and are going into your weekend looking forward to time doing things you love with people you love to be around. I will be spending time (if our plans work out) with my better half out of town. I know most of you are probably thinking, don't you spend every day with P.R. as it is? The answer to that is yes, but more time with P.R. is always a great thing.

In case you are wondering about the photo on this blog, this is another hint at the cover art for my new book, The Touch. I took several photos and an overlay and combined them all together with some extra editing to create my cover art. This is a section of one of the original photos I used for the cover. While it does not look like this on the book cover, you will recognize it when you see the art.

This month I will be celebrating my 55th birthday and I have to say I am really looking forward to it. First of all, my birthday always falls on Talk Like a Pirate Day, which I find hilarious. Second, they are starting up the Destination Star Trek (DST) conventions again this month. They haven't had one since CoVid hit the world. They had planned to have a big convention last year to celebrate 25 years of Star Trek Voyager, but it was cancelled. However, they have rescheduled it for this year and I have a ticket for a photo with Kate Mulgrew! I can't wait!

Keep watching my social media for a sneak peek of the new text I have written for The Touch coming sometime in the next few days. I think I will do a video on TikTok first. However, if you do not follow me on there, I will post it later on my other social media sites. But you should follow me on there, it's fun.
