The Segilola Salami Show – Monetisation Strategies for Authors

Today on The Segilola Salami Show, we discuss the impact free books are having on the publishing world as well as monetisation strategies an author (or anyone with a website) can employ to generate ongoing passive income. We also discuss the self published book Sidereus Nuncius by Ethan Howard. There are some freebies up for grabs, so listen to the end to find out more details.

The Segilola Salami show is hosted by Segilola Salami who is also an author and a self publishing strategist. She provides one to one support to aspiring authors to help them self publish their own books and make a success of it. Her latest book is called Yetunde: An Ode to My Mother http://www.segilolasalami.co.uk/amazon-us/. Part of the proceeds from the sales of this book goes towards helping UK Charity Jigsaw4u.

The show is about books, books and more books but specifically self published books. The show is in the form of a round table discussion. We give tips to help self published authors then discuss an indie book (like a book club).

Or better still, think of it as a group of book lovers having virtual coffee discussing books. The aim of the show is to be entertaining but educative as we see guests share their experience on self publishing in a virtual cafe.

The show is published weekly on Tuesdays at 9am GMT London. Subscribe to the show now to listen to this and other episodes http://www.segilolasalami.co.uk/subscribe-to-podcast/ on your android device. You can also listen to the show via the PlayerFM app https://player.fm/series/the-segilola-salami-show on Google Play or Amazon Apps or via Tunein http://tunein.com/radio/The-Segilola-Salami-Show-p837568/. Book Review – The Catch

The CatchThe Catch by Richard Becker

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG OMG OMG I am screaming like a teenager. This book is fantastic

Other than Stephen King, I have not enjoyed any other work as much as I did this

Apart from being well written, it was tastefully written. Richard Becker is a master craftsman with a keyboard

I was drawn into the book from the very first sentence

Whilst the book summary gives you an idea of what to expect and stays true to that storyline, it is so much more than that.

I liked every aspect of this book

I normally think there’s room for improvement in everything but I cannot think of how else to improve this book. It is that good.

You just have to read it

The only other thing I am going to say is that once upon a time, they used to say that a picture never tells a lie. That is no longer the case in the world we live in. Even something you are seeing right in front of you could be the biggest illusion ever

Sunday Snippet – Blood Ties (The Modern Tales of Na Fianna #1)

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all keeping well?

This Sunday’s Snippet is from the book Blood Ties (The Modern Tales of Na Fianna #1) by Hazel West. It is a YA, Urban Fantasy, Alternate History book.

Hazel West lives in Purgatory, er, Florida, with her books and her hedgehog Horatio. When she’s not writing, she’s reading other people’s books, studying folklore, or binge-watching something on Netflix—drinking coffee is also a given.

The Snippet:

There was a moment when I couldn’t quite believe the fact I was grappling on the brink of a waterfall just like in an overblown action movie, but yet there I was and Keevan wasn’t far behind, still facing off with the same Goblin he had been before, who was pressing him hard. I couldn’t see where Tierney and Caitlin were because I was a bit too busy for that at the moment, but hoped they were not in as precarious a position as I was or worse.

There was a sudden yell and, forgoing all training I had ever had, I looked over with concern to see Keevan slipping off his rock and falling down with the rushing water, the Goblin he had been fighting going with him.

I would have screamed for him, even knowing it wouldn’t have done anything, but I was suddenly slammed in the face by the hilt of my opponent’s sword. I teetered back on the precipice but gained my balance just before I received another strike that knocked the sword out of my wet hand. I kicked out at the Goblin, but he caught my leg and I knew then, with horror, that this was it. He grinned, knowing as well, and I flailed my arms as he pressed me back. The only thing I could do now was take him with me, but I didn’t even get that chance.

“Have a nice swim, Finar,” the Goblin said with a jeer, before he let me go and I fell backwards. It wouldn’t have been terrible, but for the fact that halfway down I slammed into the side of the cliff, smashing up my side, and by the time I hit the freezing water, well, I hardly remembered the impact enough to tell about it.

That’s it. If you liked the snippet, you can get the rest of the book on Amazon UK and Amazon US

Partnership with Jigsaw4u

Jigsaw4u

I believe that children are the future and as such we should do everything we can to nurture and protect them.

Jigsaw4u is one such organisation that believes in the same thing. It is a UK based charity working to support children and young people through trauma, loss and bereavement. It brings together children and young people who feel alone and different, so that by sharing their experiences they can develop the tools to move forward in their lives.

Jigsaw4u aims to give young people a voice by empowering them to make their own decisions about their lives. It helps young people to express their views about local, regional and national policies in order to improve the lives of children in the UK and those across the world.

Its mission is to proactively help children and their families build positive relationships and empower them to have a voice in their future.

To find out more about them, please check out their website

It is for this reason that I want to support them with my work as an author. I write a series of books called Yetunde. I have pledged to give a small percentage of the sales of Yetunde: An Ode to My Mother to Jigsaw4u to support them in their works. So when you buy a copy (or two or three), you are contributing to the amazing work of this charity. You can check out their website for other ways you can support them too.

Sunday Snippet – Meeting of the Mustangs

Hello everyone, thanks for visiting my blog today

Today’s Sunday Snippet is from Cathy Kennedy. Cathy spent the first years of her life growing up in Pennsylvania before moving to South Florida at age 17. Her book, Meeting of the Mustangs, was started during her teenage years in Pennsylvania and would not be completed until many years later.

The story of the wild mustangs is somewhat reflective of her life living in the country, where her family owned horses. She wanted to complete the book for younger readers who have a love for horses, and finally convinced herself that she should continue the story where she’d stopped writing many years before.

She currently lives in Ohio with her husband and three rescued tuxedo cats.

The Snippet:

He didn’t see the butterfly that flew past his nose, but he did see its shadow. He got up from his silly coltish position and began to chase it. For the three months of his life so far, he had always loved to chase shadows. He would chase bird shadows, butterfly shadows, even things as silly as shadows of tall flowers blowing in the wind. He often caught up with them, too, but he could never figure out why he couldn’t keep ahold of them. It was just too much for his young mind, despite the fact that he was only a horse.

The reason he could catch up with them was because he was fast — very fast. In fact, he was much faster than any of the other three- and four-month-old mustangs in the band. He had been born three months before, to a big, beautiful chestnut mare and his sire, who was also large. He was colored like his sire – pitch black.

Only hours before, the big mountain lion had attacked again. The horses were peacefully grazing when the stealthy cat had dropped from a tree and onto the black colt’s unsuspecting father. Hearing his screams of distress and fearing for the safety of the band, the lead mare had signaled for them to flee. Panicked, they left the scene at full gallop, leaving the unfortunate stallion to fight the cat alone.

Although the mountain lion had not pursued them, the mares and young horses ran a great distance, the mares pushing the younger ones to keep pace with them. When the young horses could go no further, they had finally slowed and come to rest, the lead mare intently looking in every direction to make certain that the predator had not followed them.

Website marketing

I recently found out about a website https://growtraffic.com/ that claims to promote websites by sending traffic their way. I am considering using it as a case study.

For instance, you can set up a PPC campaign on Google and similar for other search engines. These services are paid for.

Then there are service providers that charge you but use bots to send traffic your way. Obviously you don’t want these because they visits won’t be doing anything positive for you or your website, so I don’t really think it is worth the effort.

I did a case study on CoPromote and sent traffic to my YouTube video. This I invested time into, not money and I got a 1% return on investment. Here’s the YouTube video to the case study, I recommend watching to the end (sorry it’s a bit long but definitely packed with useful info).

I will update this post after I run a case study on https://growtraffic.com/

Book Review – Marie

Marie (Teumessian Trilogy #1)Marie by Ana Elise Meyer

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have read a lot of books in the genre and even watched movies where the storylines overlapped, so this book is not 100% unique in the plot. That said, it was a very enjoyable read. It grabs your attention every single step of the way. I looked forward to continuing my reading everytime I put it down (which was hard to do). So as not to give spoilers, I won’t go into much details about the book. If this genre is your thing, then I assure you you will not be bored reading it.

You can read the book for free if you have kindle unlimited subscription or buy a copy on Amazon UK or Amazon US
