Janet Roberts is security awareness specialist by day and a writer by night. In her books, you’ll always find someone spending a bit of time by a lake, river or ocean somewhere in the world. She was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, on the Great Lakes, and she loves an endless view of water for as far as the eye can see. Sitting on a beach in the morning is the best kind of meditation for her.

She lives in Pittsburgh, PA, and considers herself a Western Pennsylvania girl heart and soul, despite living in so many other U.S. locations. Its lush green mountains, warm sunny beaches, and salt of the earth kind of people populate her writing as they do her life.

Janet's debut novel, The Narrow Gate - 1st place winner of the 2017 TAZ Fiction a

I usually take a long walk, preferably by a water, read a good book, go to a movie, or just meditate until I'm relaxed enough to let the creative thoughts flow.(less)

I guess the best thing is how it makes me feel. I feel happy and fulfilled, when I'm writing. Like I'm doing what I was born to do.(less)

When that dream comes true…it’s pretty cool!

Never give up on your dreams. Small dreams, big dreams. Keep them right on the horizon where you can see them. Maybe it takes a few years or a few decades or, if you’re me, just about your whole life to make one come true. When I was a child I was told not to be a quitter or a whiner so I’ve kept moving toward that dream year after year.

I kept writing and dreaming. I’m still doing it.

Really innovative way of writing that is relevant to modern culture without losing any of the suspense and human emotion. Characters are very dimensional and real, not stereotyped in any way. I would like to read more by this author.

Janet Roberts is reading Smoke Screen: A nice Christian story with a predictable plot line. I didn’t like was that all characters were constantly sobbing/crying as a reaction to everything that, by the middle of the book, made them less believable. Additionally, women were unable to handle anything and sobbed at everything until they were rescued by a man and God. The only strong female character, Georgi, was portrayed as harsh but she had a spine.

Loved it. Really helped me. Highly advise reading it while you're taking a fiction workshop as you can apply the reading to the actual work week by week.

“Can I be blunt on this subject? If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.”
