My 7 most popular blog posts of 2017

It’s that time of year again, where I share my top 7 most popular blog posts of 2017.

This year has been AWESOME! Not because I’ve met every goal, I actually failed it. It was Awesome because I’m content, in every area of my life (Marriage, Business and Life). I feel fulfilled and at peace in my heart and mind. When You purpose in your heart to allow God to drive in the driver’s seat, Your goals are very different. My goal is always to live purposefully in following God and not what I want.

I accomplished so much in 2017. It’s been a year since I did my BIG CHOP.  It’s been a year since we moved into our first house. This year, my husband decided it was a good time to get not just one dog but two! I was able to collaborate with other Youtubers, which was fun! I was able to my makeup professionally done by an ARTISTS! This year I also finished up my degree in BUSINESS, I’m so EXCITED! I’m stepping into 2018 with BIG expectations, hopes and dreams coming true.

Here’s my 7 most popular blog posts of 2017-

1. How to make bread in the crock pot

I’m always up for trying new recipes, new foods, new things and more. I LOVE how the bread came out and if you we’re wondering if you can make bread in the crock pot, here’s a way you can try it out. For my family, I love that it makes my house smells wonderful and my family happy. Now… why would I want to make bread in the crock pot and not in the oven? Because, I never made bread in the crock pot and wanted to try it.

2. How to make homemade Instant pancake mix

Now, why are they instant? It’s because all you have to do is add water. I’m all about quick and easy, nothing too fancy, just straight to the point and these fluffy pancakes deliver all that and then some. You can modify this recipe any way you want. I sometimes add chocolate chips, cinnamon, blueberries, etc. the list goes on. In this recipe, I made chocolate chip, its my husband favorite. My whole family loves chocolate. This mixture lasts me months. We don’t have it everyday. Probably once a week, on Saturdays as a family.

3. How to make Cranberry Orange protein muffins

While I’m working out and trying to get my summer body back, I’m on the hunt to finding healthy breakfast and snack ideas. Here I created a healthy muffin you can eat for breakfast and still stay on track. I have some leftover frozen cranberries. Whenever I make bread with cranberries I need to have orange juice with it, So I created Cranberry Orange Protein Muffins.

4. How to form a cleaning routine for busy moms

This was a favorite and fun post. Creating this routine took a lot of trial and error. I did not grow up wanting to be a SAHM mom. It was not model to me and it wasn’t even in my mindset. I wanted to go to college and work at a business company in wall street. I also didn’t know the Lord until after I had my twins and even then I struggled a lot with wanting to stay home with them. When my husband and I got married we decided that it would be financially better for us that I stay home with the kids, while he worked. At first, I was all for it but then He started going on deployments and I was not happy about that. That is when I started looking for jobs that would pay for daycare, gas, and any other extra things I wanted.

5. 15 ways to prioritize your marriage

Currently, my life is pretty busy. I’m currently in school, I’m taking a few classes to finish my Business degree, Working part-time, building my YouTube channel and this blog. My Pastor at the church I attend is teaching about Marriage from the book Song of Solomon.

6. 5 ways to cope when deployment is overwhelming

It has been a while since I wrote about deployments, almost 4 years ago and A LOT has changed. While, I am still thankful for deployments and have experienced quite a few while married 10+ years to my Marine, at times it can be overwhelming. Recently my husband went on a month deployment and I thought this would be a good time for me to get my school work done (in peace!), I can finish up some blogging and work on my YouTube channel, etc. No… Things have gone crazy and I completely forgot how crazy it can get while hubby is away.

7. My Heritage DNA Results

Another favorite. Here’s a little bit of prediction of what I know. I know I have roots in Africa (probably Nigeria) but don’t know exactly where. I also, knew I may be mixed with Irish, due to my maiden being Collins and the origin is from Ireland. So, I share this story with you, to share, the background of why I have no idea what my heritage is and how this was such a God blessing for me. Having the opportunity to know my Heritage will answer so many questions for me and I fill in the gaps in my life. Below is a video of my results you can watch.

This year I wanted to continue to reach my goal of having 1,000 subscribers. So far, here is my 7 most popular video on my YouTube channel

3 ways your blocking your full potential

In 2018, I’m stepping into a new season and I am leaving behind ways that are blocking my full potential to success.

I’m taking a good look at 2017 at some of the things I failed and leaving that behind. I recognize ways I found that was blocking my full potential… and here’s how you can to.

“Take a good look at 2017, take note and step into 2018 like never before”
Click To Tweet

Fear of… Insert the fear. Fear of success, Fear of what others will think, Fear of failure, etc. I no longer want to be stuck where I am, just because other people don’t know what is going on. I had a tough time growing up and always being questioned on what I could and couldn’t do, so every time I stepped out, I was judged negatively and it stayed with me for years and allowed it to hold me back. NO MORE, starting NOW!

Making excuses! I can be the queen of excuses. I was just talking with my mentor and as we we’re talking she let me know to own the title God has given me. I wasn’t speaking, that I was an Author, a Speaker and writer. I was questioning it along the way, instead of owning the title. I would say things like “I can’t do this or that” when, the bible says, I can do all things through God (Philippians 4:13). The word of God is true and the REALITY that I need to be speaking and not what I can’t do.

Neglecting self-care. Self care is something I am very mindful but can sometimes forget. I can get so excited and caught up in the day-to-day activities and ignore the aches and pains. I know, personally, I cannot be on my feet for long periods of time, so I time my self and created systems in place for my home that creates an atmosphere of love in my home.

Negative thinking. As I sated above I am the queen of making excuses and Fear of (insert fear), which can turn into negative thinking. I grew up with a lot of negative energy and took that with me growing up, the negative thoughts in your head that says: “You can’t do this or that” “You can’t do a conference” “You won’t have the money” etc. Again as I stated above the bible is the REALITY and what is True, I can do all things through Christ (Philippians 4:13) , God is the supplier of ALL MY NEEDS (Matthew 6:25-34) I don’t have fear because God didn’t give it to me, What He did give me is power, love and self-control (2 Timothy 5:7).

These are some personal areas in my business and life, that I’ll be working on in 2018, I can only talk about experiences that I’ve gone through in life. I LOVE to share my testimonies and sharing the goodness of God. This is not just head knowledge but something I’ve gone through and experience God’s deliverance in my life and I HAVE to share.

How about you, what are some areas you will be working on?

5 Netflix binge worthy shows to watch during the holidays

Our date night sometimes consists of binge watching Netflix shows, here are a few you can start with during the holidays.

I don’t know about you but I need this winter break. School is out, I’m done with school, just finished my degree in business and I am ready to relax and enjoy the holidays. Here are my top 5 Netflix binge worthy shows and some movies to watch this holiday break.

1. The Crown

I LOVE watching season 1 of the Crown. It’s a show where a young women’s Journey from everyday life to a Queen. It’s the dedication and the some real life scenarios of the life of Queen Elizabeth. I’m excited to get started on Season 2. The ups and downs and some of the tough decisions she has to make as queen.

2. The Mysteries of Laura

I LOVE this show because I can relate. She is a detective in New York City (Where I’m from), a Mom to twin boys (I’m a mom to twins) and she was married to a detective as well but got a divorce (NOT AT ALL ME!) but the episodes shows how she solves crime, while balancing motherhood and work. I love crime shows that show case strong women doing amazing things while balancing motherhood and everything in between.

3. The Night Shift

This show is about military veterans working as doctors at the San Antonio Memorial hospital in Texas. I love the support of the military and the interesting cases that go through in the hospital and of course there’s drama. Great show.

4. Luke Cage

Luke Cage is about a man with super strength and unbreakable skin caused by a sabotaged experiment. He tries to rebuild his life in Harlem, New York and after a while see’s the mistreatment of the people around him. Great show if you’re a fan of the Marvel series.

5. Sherlock

I’m a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch acting. I first heard about it, when my husband came back from deployment and was telling me how good of a show it was and it was even better when I found out that Benedict Cumberbatch was the actor. I binge watched the first episode while hubby was on deployment, then we watched season two thru four together. It’s a new twist on the story of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, with interesting crime stories and drama.

Movies

If your anything like me. Sometimes, I can binge watch a favorite show and be done within hours. So, in the meantime, I like to watch movies that can get my mind off of the addiction of the show. Here are a few of my favorites.

The Case for Christ

Christmas Inheritance

Little Boy

How to make “Christmas blend” flavored coffee

I LOVE the holidays, especially Christmas. I’ve always been obsessed with coffee flavors that are hot and yummy. Christmas blend is one of the flavors I LOVE, here’s how to make it.

This interest started when I was searching for Holiday flavored drinks and I saw that Starbuck had tons of different holiday coffee beans but no k-cups or even grounds. I was preparing for a week or 2 of relaxing and binge watching Christmas movies and Netflix shows. Making bread, cookies, drinks and more, you know… the typical holiday traditions.

Since I was not able to find a Christmas Blend flavored coffee in grounds or k cups, I decided to create my own. When I did research on making a “Christmas Blend” recipe all kinds of things came up. Pumpkin spice, Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Cardamon, the flavors of Christmas and the holidays. I literally just used what I had on hand, tried it and FELL IN LOVE. Here’s how you make: “Christmas Blend flavored coffee”

My mother-in-law gave me a French Coffee Press for Christmas and I’ve been using my new toy ever since. This recipe can be used in a K-cup or a regular coffee pot. I typically, like my coffee strong, so you can adjust according to your taste. Below is a video of how to make the “Christmas Blend” flavored coffee.

How to make “Christmas Blend” flavored coffee:

1 to 2 tbsp of medium ground coffee

2 tsp of Nutmeg

1 tsp cinnamon (optional)

1 tsp Allspice (optional)

You can create this with just cinnamon and allspice or any spice’s you have on hand. I sometimes add all spice and cinnamon or just nutmeg alone, it is all up to you. These spices remind me of the holidays and you can create a blend all your own.

Merry Christmas

7 tips to creating a routine of success for your business

When establishing a routine for my business, I had to create a schedule that worked for my business and my household.

Creating a routine for myself and family is important to me. I had to sit down and look at what I wanted in both my business and home. Spending time with God, spending time with my children and husband is important to me.

So I had to ask myself, what would a perfect day look like and write it down and actually do it. By doing this, I’m creating my ideal schedule that works and everyone is happy. Here’s how you can start:

Ask yourself, what is important to you. As I stated above, spending time with God is important to me, that’s where I get my wisdom, strength and even frustration out, before even starting my day. I lay down what is heavy on my heart to God. The scripture says: Psalm 55:22a– “cast your burden on the Lord (release it),  and He will sustain you.” That is where, I pray out my schedule and ask God what does He want me to work on, what does He want me to do today. He will reveal it to you.
Write down your ideal schedule and do it. For me writing it down and actually looking at my schedule, gives me an idea of what to do and making it happen. When you write it down and actually do it, you will find what works and what doesn’t and rearrange it. Creating that routine takes time and patient. If you don’t have it down today, don’t worry, keep trying and don’t quit.

Creating a routine takes time & patient. Don’t quit.
Click To Tweet

When is a time, you’re at your best. For me its the morning, I raise up ready to take on the day, early, before the sun comes up. I know for some people mornings may not be they’re best time. For me, working pass 8pm is THE WORST time! I can’t even form sentences pass 8pm. So how can I give anyone my best, to my children, my husband, or anyone. They won’t benefit from Trista working pass 8pm.
Take time to rest. Resting is a vital part of success in business. Just like taking a lunch break (rest) when you work at a 9 to 5 job, taking a break when you are running a business is beneficial for you and the people you may be working with.

“Success includes rest!”
Click To Tweet

Find a method that works for you. Everything I may be sharing here on this blog, may not work for you. Find it. Try one of the tips I mentioned and then find the rest. There is no one formula that will fix everything. I’m sharing what works for me, and how I’m able to get things done. I have a friend that realizes she cannot multi task, I can and actually thrive at doing it. That’s how MY brain works. Figure out how your brain works. If you do drop a ball, pick it up and try again.
Do research. Find what other entrepreneurs are doing and try their methods. In creating a routine that works, it could be a mixture of different things, from different people, its finding what works for you and sticking to it.
Keep going. Don’t Quit. When moving forward in your business and things don’t work out. Don’t quit. If somethings not working out, you now have wisdom. You know what doesn’t work, find what does. Its takes a lot of motivation to stand up after that but that’s what separate’s you from other people. That is why I can share wisdom, because I didn’t quit, I felt like it so many times, but having positive people and moving forward is what makes you stand out from all the rest.

Above is a video, of a break down of my day, and What I went into detail, on how you can create a schedule of success of your home and business. I know these tips will help you if you try it. I felt frustrated, when I was looking to actually find that routine that work for my family and business, it took time. Let me know in the comments below what schedule works for you?

3 tips to jumpstart your journey as a new christian

Disclaimer: I was given this Bible to review for B&H Publishing by FrontGate Media. While I was given the Bible for review all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

I recently got a question from someone on resources for those that are new christians. Here are resources I’ve found that we’re helpful in my walk as a new Christian.

I didn’t grow up knowing anything about Jesus Christ. I knew there was a God and that was it. The people around me we’re catholic, seven-day-adventist and Jehovah Witness, I had a lot of questions and they we’re able to answer even the questions that we’re in my heart. I was searching for God. I wasn’t aware that I was, there wasn’t a peace in my heart. Years later, I meant my husband, became pregnant with twins and met God there, at rock bottom. I was so far out of God’s will for my life that I hit rock bottom and needed help to find myself and my way out. God met me right there.

Here are 3 resources that would help you jumpstart your Journey as a new Christian:

1. Get plugged into a bible based church. This was the first thing I did when I started my Journey and it was the best thing I could have done. I was able to get plugged in, get Baptized, ask A LOT of questions and meet wonderful people, I’m still friends with today. Also, attend a bible study, It’s an opportunity to grow with others in the same season as you. Listening to other people’s testimonies can also strengthen your relationship with God. By attending a church and bible study this allows you to grow in your relationship with God and start your Journey in learning about Him.

2. Get a Study Bible- My husband got me my first woman study bible, I still have today, I have grown leaps and bounds from it. A great study bible you can use, is the She reads Truth Bible. The She Reads Truth Bible aims to live at the intersection of beauty, goodness, and Truth. Featuring devotionals by the She Reads Truth team, and Scripture reading plans that include supplemental passages for deeper understanding, this Bible invites every woman to count themselves among the She Reads Truth community of “Women in the Word of God every day.” The She Reads Truth Bible also features 66 key verses, artfully lettered to aid in Scripture memorization.

The features include: Almost 200 devotionals, 66 artist-designed key verses, 35 full-color timelines, 20 full-color maps, 11 full-color charts, reading plans for every book of the Bible, one-year Bible reading plan, detailed book introductions, key verse list, carefully curated topical index, smyth-sewn binding, two colored ribbon markers, and wide margins for journaling and note-taking.

I LOVE everything about this bible. I love the maps, the colorful writings, the devotionals and the one year bible reading plan. I recommend this bible for anyone. You can check out the website for more information, devotionals, reading plans and more. This website is an opportunity for you to explore the bible and get to know God in different ways. You can win one of 7 copies of the She Reads Truth Bible, click here for more information.

3. Journal the progress. Journaling has always been therapeutic for me. I Journal not just what i’m feeling, but what God is doing in a season in my life. I have Journals from when I first started my journey as a new Christian and I still have a Journal in the new seasons God has brought me through and the one i’m currently in. Journal so your faith can increase as you continue to walk this journey. When you are feeling down and discourage, journaling helps you remember the times God delivers you from situations and/or has encouraged you.

What are resources have helped you in your walk with the Lord?

5 tips in Preparation of the holidays

In preparation of the holidays, I’m writing out a few tips on how to prepare and enjoy the holidays at the same time.

During this time of season it is super busy for me. I have twins, their birthdays are close to Christmas, I have family coming down who want to see the kids and spend time as a family. Here are a few tips in preparation for the upcoming holidays.

1. Make a schedule. Plan out the details of what you would like to happen, my main goal this year is to just focus on memories. My kids want to do things like cook, bake and decorate the tree. Last year we had a wonderful pine tree and the kids loved to decorate it, it was fun.

2. Shop ahead. Use and get tools that will help make your holiday preparations easier. For example, Use the Evergreen Elf to monitor your Christmas tree’s water level. The visual and audio will alert you when your tree is dry, saving you the hassle of climbing over presents and under branches to check the water level in your tree stand. It Reduce’s the risk of Christmas tree fires with the Evergreen Elf! Also you can water your Christmas tree, a fun activity for the whole family. I know my youngest daughter, who’s four years old, loves to help and making memories is my top priority on my holiday list this year.

3. Consider doing something different each year. Last year my kids enjoyed it, when we made Chocolate covered pretzels. We did a lot of baking cookies and fun holiday drinks. This year, I made it a family affair to pack boxes for children in need. We went shopping and packed boxes, the kids loved it.

4. Create a meal plan and go shopping with a friend. Going shopping with a friend, makes it less mundane and a lot more fun and enjoyable. The goal for this holiday season is have fun and make memories. Don’t lose sight of that, in the preparations.

5. Enjoy the holidays and take breaks. It won’t be fun or enjoyable for the family or you, if you’re not at your best self. Taking breaks even if you didn’t get everything done on your list, will help you in the long run.

For more information on the Evergreen elf, follow them in the links below.

I Failed my 2017 goals

One of my goals was to spend more family time, focus and achieve goals. Well… Let me share with you my goals for 2017 and you’ll see why.

Here we’re some of my goals…

I wanted to reach 1,000 subscribers, on YouTube by the end of this year of 2017, I’m only at 756.
My blogging reach, went down quite a bit, from last year.
I’m still not 100% sure on the direction God is taking me.

Here’s why I’m so excited!!!

I know what works and what doesn’t. Quitting is not an option for me, I can’t stay silent now, with all that God has done in my life and where He’s taking me, lets me know that I’m on the right path.

YouTube Goals:

I have a list of popular videos on my channel, so I know what content to share. Also, still sharing my God inspired Journey as well. It is still possible to get to 1,000 Subscribers. So I’m still uploading videos everyday in the month of in December 2017.

Blogging Goals:

The reason why my reach has gone down quite a bit, is I haven’t been writing blog post and sharing it. I took some time away and it was much needed. I’m still led by God in what I do, so my blogging reach has nothing to do with my effectiveness, I’m moved by God only.

Direction Goals:

God will reveal the more I continue to step forward. God is God and He will reveal in His perfect timing. I trust that.

Now what…

God is calling me to do BIG things in 2018. One of the things He’s calling me to do is… Start a conference. This is HUGE! I’ve never done a conference before. I’ve put on events, I’ve even done bible studies before but starting a conference is HUGE and I’m not sure if i’m ready. I’m scared but excited at the same time.

So what is next…

I’ll take it one step at a time, I’ve completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Business. The next step is taking it one day at a time. Seeing where He leads. Below is a recent video on my channel on What a success routine looks like for anyone in business.

Scripture to Remember:

Psalm 37:23- “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.”

7 easy freezer meal ideas for busy moms

Here are 7 quick meals to try for busy moms on the go.

Freezer Meals

Prepared meals as always been a life saver for me. Going through my day worried about what to cook for meals. I shared a few breaksfast recipes you can easily make, that are also easy to freeze and prepare for later. Homemade pancakes, Chocolate chip Muffins is a favorite in my household and fall is coming soon and cranberries and orange bread is another favorite.

Here’s how to get started:

Write down family favorite dinner recipes

My kids, including my husband all are very picky when it comes to dinner time. My family love chicken, turkey and Pizza. So I surround my meal planning ideas around that. Also, my kids DO NOT like cheese as the main course in any dinner or breakfast meals. Such as lasagna, baked ziti or any casserole with cheese. They are very picky which was a little hard for me, when preparing meals. Here is a pinterest board filled with easy recipes to try. Once you picked out your recipes to freeze and try…

Write down an inventory of ingredients you have in your pantry

Once I figured out my list of recipes I’m going to make I did an inventory of my pantry and the ingredients I had on hand to make sure I can start making the recipes. Once I have a list, It’s time to go shopping.

Time to go Shopping

Make sure when you go shopping you look for deals, coupons, sales, etc. Budget your finances accordingly. I went to the commissary. In my area, the commissary have the better deals and every once in a while I will shop at Aldi’s or walmart for other things I may need.

Here are the recipes I made:

Chicken Cacciatore

1 lb of chicken legs, quarters, breast (Any you prefer)

1 Jar of Spaghetti Sauce

1 Zucchini

1 green bell pepper

1 Oion

BBQ Chicken with Cranberry Sauce

The answer

Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC. I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this review and post.

As a military spouse, I get asked all the time, how do I get through deployments? My answer is Jesus. It’s always in God, how I get through deployments. When You feel lonely, When life throws you curve balls, when you’re tired of raising kids by yourself, when you’re tired of living in new locations, new areas and not knowing anyone, when you sometimes have to be brave and/or strong for your children and help them cope while your spouse is on deployment, can get so tiring and so frustrating, especially when you have no one to talk to about it.

I realized through a lot of ups and downs of this military lifestyle is that I can’t do it without God. When Life throws curve balls, I run to Jesus. When I feel lonely and have no one to talk to, I run to Jesus. When life feels overwhelming, I run to Jesus. He is always the answer. Does deployment get easier? Another question, I get asked all the time. No, it doesn’t get easier but my Faith gets stronger. Each deployment has its challenges and victories. God brings me through each one EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Jeremy Camp came out with a new CD called: “The Answer” and First, I can see that Jeremy Camp as a singer is Sold out to God and I can tell thats the case in his songs. He has a powerful testimony of God walking him through the death of his first wife and God blessing him with a second chance at Love with his second wife.

Check out his new song below

The lyrics to his song: The Answer just confirms that no matter the situation you’re in, any question you may have, Jesus is the answer. The video is just as powerful, it shows individuals who have walked through dark places and how God has walked them through it. I encourage you to carefully, read a small section of lyrics from his song below…

I know the answer to every question

The one solution to every fear

I know my help and where it comes from

Jesus, He is the answer

He sees our sadness

He feels our sorrow

And in our weakness, He is strong

He holds the weight of

All of our failings

Great is our sin but greater the cross

Whatever you may be going through, Jesus is the answer to the questions, the frustrations, the loneliness, Anything you may be going through, Jesus is the answer. “He sees our sadness, He feels our sorrow and IN our weaknesses He is strong!”
