Being driven in business hurt my marriage

I have a PASSION as an entrepreneur, doing business fulfills me. I LOVE everything about the business, meeting people, hearing about their walk-in business Journey, it excites me. I share my testimony in my book: S.M.A.R.T. Goals for Christian entrepreneurs when I felt God whisper in my heart to tell what was going and what HE did to help me get back on track. This is a VERY sensitive part of my life but I believe by sharing my story, I don’t want you as an entrepreneur to go through the struggles I did, when you don’t have to. You can hear more about my testimony on the podcast.

My husband and I have known each other for over 10+ years. At this point in our lives, We just moved to a different duty station and I was excited about the new opportunities to start my business in this new area, meeting new people, and learning new things. For months, which turned into years of me “working my business” like everyone else and meeting new people put a strain in my marriage which I didn’t notice. Until one day, as I was in a meeting via, phone, with a business coach, getting some “Juicy advice” and out of nowhere, my husband said to me: “Trista, You don’t love me.”

Now, to me, I was thinking to myself: WHAT?! I’m doing this business for you and the family, why would you even say that? Which is what I actually said to him. He felt like I didn’t care, I didn’t love him and at this pint, we’ve been married for quite some time AND I just had our 3rd child. I was SHOCKED!

FOR MONTHS… We had an argument, after argument, fights, and getting NOWHERE. I FINALLY, went to God and asked HIM…” LORD, What is going on?” During this process, He began to show me what was REALLY going on in my marriage, with my kids, and my whole household. In addition to my husband feeling unloved, My 2 oldest kids were having a rough time in school, one was about to get left back in the grade and the other was being bullied for wearing hearing aids and he began to show me my heart condition as to how cold and distant my heart was becoming. I felt like everything around me was falling apart, I felt like a piece of crap, like nothing (To be honest).

I asked God to help me out of this situation, I realize God doesn’t show us how crappy or crazy we’re acting just to rub it in our face but to help us. I REALLY began to get into God’s word and seek HIM DAY and NIGHT. I told God, I DO NOT want this happening again and God began to show me what I needed to do to get back on track with HIM. He showed me S.M.A.R.T. Goals and following this strategy to be successful in all areas of my life, I actually began to experience this.

[Tweet “God wanted me to be successful in not just BUSINESS but in EVERY area of my life #adrivenwife”]

I started to believe and see how much God wanted me to be successful in not just BUSINESS but in EVERY area of my life. Jeremiah 29: 11, holds a special place in my heart because this was what God said to me after I received Christ as my LORD and Savior of my life. This was the FIRST time I EVER heard God speak to me and me knowing without a doubt that it was Him speaking to me. I didn’t know what that scripture meant at the time, but I had confidence that He spoke to me and I heard Him CLEARLY. This scripture popped up again. God had me meditating on this scripture for some time and I felt like…” Ok God, I get it you have a plan for me and EVERYONE knows this scripture, I was actually getting tired of seeing it EVERYWHERE, if you were to just type in Jeremiah in google, that scripture would come up, it’s crazy but as I kept reading it, the word prosper HIT me like a TON of bricks. It was this scripture that helps me to realize that God REALLY wants me to be successful, thriving in not just business but in EVERY area of my life.

I actually began to experience His peace, love, and TRUE JOY in just getting to know HIM and not having to worry about what the strategy is to be successful in business. I also learned that the money I made when operating in my business helps me to put money in its right perspective. The money I get is to give glory to God, be a good steward of HIS money, and knowing that it doesn’t belong to me but His. I talk more about this in my post success as a Moneymaking mom.

[Tweet “I actually began to experience His peace, love, and TRUE JOY in just getting to know HIM. #adrivenwife”]

Now, My husband and I are in LOVE like never before, it’s not perfect but we both know that God is number one in our lives and He is at the center of our marriage. A three cord strand is not easily broken (Ecc. 4:12). Both of my kids are also doing great, one did not get left-back in their grade and my other child is more confident in wearing hearing aids and talking about it with other kids more joyfully than before and both have bright futures ahead of them.

I tell you this to say GOD is the one who has done it for me and can do it for you. All is not lost, it may feel like it but it’s not, there’s hope!

10 Unique Date Ideas for couples

Here are some date night and at home date unique ideas you can try.

I’m always on the look out for unique ideas for my husband and I. We’re both very different people and trying to find something we both like, affordable and fun takes creativity. Here are some Ideas you can try and get the creativity juices flowing.

DIY Classes

I have a new Hobby Lobby grand opening in my area and everyone is excited. I know you can attend one of the DIY classes, they have schedule. This would be a great Date night idea. Even Michaels have cake decorating classes you can check out and have fun.

Attend a Concert

At my church, there is always a Christian artists playing and new artists playing. In April The Newsboys will be playing at my church. Also, there’s the Winter Jam concert. It is a concert that features top Christian music artists, and comedians. Click here to search where you can find Winter Jam in your area.

StarGaze

Star gazing is FREE and I got this idea from my husband, he actually likes to do this. There’s a small club that meets on Fridays, in my area that meet together and share a common interest in star gazing. My husband actually helped me put a video together when there was a solar eclipse last year, He was so excited. Romantic and you get to learn new things about the universe.

Tour an Ice Cream Factory

The tour in our area includes a hay ride, tour of a milking barn, processing building, petting calves, sample of ice cream, have a picnic lunch before or after the tour and a small gift as a thank you. I’m always up for something new, I’ve never done before.

For the LOVE of food

When it comes to dinner as a couple, I’m always on the look out for something different. I found it! There is a small spice boutique that makes fresh spices blends and Rubs and gives a cooking demonstration that features their fresh spices. Also, there’s a food truck festival that happens every year in my town and this is always a good opportunity to check out the local restaurants in the area.

Sports together

My husband and I used to do Jiu Jitsu together. It was so much fun. We would learn new moves at the gym and practice at home. It was so much fun and bonus, getting exercise together as well, as made it fun for me. Choose that sport you would do with your spouse and have fun.

Back Yard Fun

My husband one day asked me if I would be interested in camping with the family in our back yard. If you have small kids (depending on the age), you and your spouse have one tent and the kids have their own. Below is a video of the kids and I at the state park going camping together it was definitely an experiencing, but fun as well.

Spa Together

My husband was not excited about this when I first brought the idea to him, this was at the beginning of our marriage, now we’ve been married for 12 years. At the time, I surprised him. We got the couples massage and he actually enjoyed it. It’s one of those dates we still talk about today. (Take that risk and do it!).

Paint your own Pottery

Most of everything I shared is local businesses and not the typical store chain, you will find in most places. I love to explore new places in areas I’ve been before. Paint your own pottery is an affordable DIY pottery where you can create anything you want. I LOVE mugs and it would be special to make His & Her mugs that you both created. You can create his and he can create yours as something fun to do. Always look for special discounts as well.

Walk around a book store

My husband and I like to read different books. We have a ton of local book stores in my area and popular ones like “Books-a-million”. This one includes a coffee area which is perfect to sit and discuss books, you both are interested in, while drinking coffee or tea.

This idea of creating Unique date for couples was sparked because I’m always looking for fun and different ideas to have with my spouse. If you are like me and always on the look out for date ideas, I also have a printable you can use as a checklist or ideas to tailor make it special for you and your spouse. Below is a video of myself and hubby of a 3 day weekend we spent together.

How to form a cleaning routine for busy moms

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links, which means that if you click on one of the product links, I’ll receive a percentage off your purchase, to help with the content of this site.

I’m sharing with you guys how I came up with a cleaning routine for my household that has worked for busy moms.

Here’s how it all started:

This routine took a lot of trial and error. I did not grow up wanting to be a SAHM mom. It was not a model to me and it wasn’t even in my mindset. I wanted to go to college and work at a business company on wall street. I also didn’t know the Lord until after I had my twins and even then I struggled a lot with wanting to stay home with them. When my husband and I got married we decided that it would be financially better for us that I stay home with the kids, while he worked. At first, I was all for it but then He started going on deployments and I was not happy about that. That is when I started looking for jobs that would pay for daycare, gas, and any other extra things I wanted.

During this time, I was not happy, I thought this was what I wanted. I was always stressed, always running around, and was struggling to manage my home. During this season of my life, God was working on my heart and when I gave birth to my youngest baby girl, I thought I was ready to stay home but I still had that selfish side of me that wanted to work outside the home. God really did a work in me and it changed the way I run my household today!

Fast forward to today and the way I handle my home and my schedule are so much better now because I’ve FINALLY embraced God’s call in my life as a SAHM. I know during those years I fought against God and the things He was trying to do in my life. I share all of that, to tell you this, I have experience in not wanting to have a routine and always fighting with my husband about what is clean and not clean, to now, loving what I do and getting things done in my home.

Tips to get started:

First, What is the first thing people see, when walking into your home, Is it the kitchen, Living room, dining room? Get that situated first. I know that at the beginning of my forming a routine, I thought I had to get EVERY. SINGLE. THING. cleaned and that is not the case. Begin with the area where everyone will see and start with that.

I did a video (You can watch it below) of the layout of my home and how you can get started with forming a routine and why I have one. I work, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and Wednesday is the day I have class. So, for me, that means, I hardly have time to get ANYTHING done, I drop all 3 of my children at school, I go to work, pick them up from school, take them home, make sure dinner is ready for the family and I’m off to class but I have created systems in place to handle situations like Wednesday’s. Did I mention I was a student as well? I’m working on my business degree and I’m super busy. I’m also active at my church in addition to managing my home. So for me, the first thing people see when entering my home from the front door is my stairs covered with shoes. I took care of that.

Next, when you walk further into my home, you will see my living room covered with clean clothes that needed to be folded. I tackled that, I also utilized my helpers. My twins are now 12 years old going on 13 and I definitely get them involved. They took care of their clothes and my son took out the garbage, which helped lessen the amount of work I had to do. If you are not at that point, again give yourself some grace and tackle one thing at a time.

Here’s some motivation, I did that helped me, I have a 10 minute tidy up for busy moms and a 15 minute night routine, there is so much you can do in just 10 to 15 minutes and I show what that looks like. I challenge you to try it and see if that works.

Lastly, Relax! Take it one day at a time and you will soon figure out, just like I did, what will work for you and your family. There are different options out there like, the Fly Lady Method. I have tried a few of her methods but I have found, what I’m currently doing is working best for my family. Definitely, give this a try and see what DOES work. In the video, I show you guys what I’ve done. Everything was cleaned and dinner was done. For dinner, the kids had leftovers. I cook two different types of dinner for my kids and my husband. My husband doesn’t eat meat so, I cooked him baked fish with rice and beans (His Favorite). Tomorrow, I will tackle that when it comes.

Here are some books (tools) to help you get started:

Lunch Ideas for Teenagers

Disclaimer: As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are 100% my own.

I have three children and all of them go to school. I LOVE to make healthy lunches for them and I’m always looking for creative ways to make lunch fun for them. Here are some ideas I came up with.

My two older children just turned 13 years old and food goes so quickly. Coming up with fun ways to make lunch for them is fun for me. My kids love peanut butter and jelly but I came up with a fun lunch idea. PB Crave is Gluten free, sweetened with honey and Has five fun peanut butter flavors, Raspberry White fudge & Dark Chocolate, Chocolate chip cookie dough, Chocolate banana, Sweet & Dark chocolate, and coconut milk chocolate.

The Riess family’s passion for food inspired them to create a peanut butter that was not only delicious, but also gave back to the local and global communities. PB

Crave gives a minimum of 2% profits from every jar sold to Project Peanut Butter, an organization that sends ready-to-use food worldwide to treat malnutrition. In

addition to making a difference, PB Crave makes sure that they source only the best ingredients. They use all natural U.S. grown peanuts, Brazilian organic honey, Belgian

chocolate chips, and other premium ingredients in all of their flavors.

My kids we’re so excited to try the flavors, I made a fun peanut butter and Raspberry White fudge & Dark Chocolate sandwich.

Then I made a Turkey meat & Cheese roll up…

Then I made a Banana, Peanut Butter Raspberry White fudge & Dark Chocolate milk shake

and as a snack, I used Chocolate banana flavored peanut butter with slices of apple, used a rubber band to tie the apples together to prevent the apples from turning brown.

In addition to making sandwiches, snacks, and milk shakes, I’ve also made lunch with dinner left overs,  breakfast muffins and mini pancakes with a nice spread of PB Crave flavored peanut butter.

PB Crave believes in producing products that incorporate the cleanest ingredients possible, so they choose to sweeten their peanut butter with honey. It’s natural, very sweet, and allows PB Crave to have a sweet taste without too much sugar in it. PB Crave is sold in retailers nationwide, such as: Jewel, Albertson’s, Safeway, Hy-Vee, and Vons. How to make healthy Air-fried plantains

Here’s how to make healthy air-fried plantains.

Growing up I was used to eating greasy plantains, as a side dish with a hearty meal. Plantains can be found in many caribbean households and other parts of the world. It is normally served as a side in a meal. Plantians are large banana like vegetables. Bananas and plantins are similar but both are VERY different. Plantains are larger, more starchier than bananas and less sweet. Bananas are very sweet and can be eaten when it is ripped. Plantians must be cooked before eating. They actually have more potassium than a regular banana which is used as a natural remedy for high blood pressure, calcium, helps regulate your digestive system and is high in fiber.

Also, the biggest difference is the color, Plantains are large, green, some are yellowish with black spots. A banana that is yellow with black spots can be seen as its getting spoiled but with a plantain, it is either ripped or getting to that point. Plantains are very vertical and can be added to different types of meals such as soups, stews, in place of potatoes and can also be eaten for breakfast.

Here’s how to make healthy air-fryer plantains to jumpstart your healthy routine in 2018:

You will need an air-fryer. An air-fryer is an appliance that circulates hot air evenly around the food, which provides uniform cooking and gives it a fried taste without the added fat or calories. You can use this air fryer for making sides like onion rings, plantains or fries, as well as main dishes such as steaks and chicken. It also gives off no oil smell and is designed to prevent splatters and messes. This appliance is easy to use by simply setting the temperature and timer and then letting it do the cooking. I have used this to make many recipes, here is one recipe I used to make an all purpose coffee rub for chicken wings that was super delicious. If you would like to get one of your own air-fyer, clicked the link above.

After you have pulled out your air-fryer (Or if you don’t have one you can still use the oven), Start cutting the plantains and put them into a bowl and set aside.

After cutting the plantains and you have set aside inside the bowl, I used coconut oil. It was about 2 Tsp of coconut oil covered over the plantains

After you have covered coconut oil on the plantains, set your air fryer on 320 degrees and set it for 10 to 15 minutes and you are DONE.

Let me know in the comments below if you have tried it or have tried plantains before. I LOVE it is a great healthy snack for the new year.

5 tips to organizing your workspace

I LOVE to have my desk cleaned, organize, and decluttered but as a wife, a busy mom of 3, entrepreneur, and everything in between it doesn’t always happen, here are some tips to get you started with Spring cleaning!

How to organize your workspace:

My workspace is the main part of my bedroom where I write down ideas, schoolwork, work on projects, etc. As a busy mom sometimes the workspace becomes the catch-all area. Reading books, hair products, lotion, combs, brushes, paperwork, bills, etc. I had it all… Every Monday morning, I go to a mom’s group called: MOPS (Mother’s of preschoolers International) and we meet 2x a month, we get to hang out with other moms and eat.

At this particular meeting, we had a speaker named Peggy W. Barnes who is a life coach, organizer, and speaker, she gave great tips and spoke on being the “Organized Mom” What does it take to be her? You know, that person that has everything in its place, organized and clean… As moms… No one has time for that! (Lol!) So Peggy gave us some great tips to stay organize and encouraged us that what works for one mom, may not work for someone else.

Why you should declutter:

Here are a few reasons why, having a cluttered workspace can cause stress, anxiety, and guilt, from the article Psychology Today.

Clutter bombards our minds with excessive stimuli, causing our brains to work overtime. As moms, our brains already working overtime. We don’t need anything, unnecessary, stopping our creativity as mompreneurs.Clutter makes it hard for us to relax physically and mentally. We need a space as mompreneurs to get things done.Clutter causes us to get anxious and feel guilty. We don’t need this in our lives at all. Here are some Quick Tips to get you started:

I was tired of looking at my cluttered workspace. I do everything at my desk. I go to school, online, I blog and vlog, full time. So a lot of my time is spent at this desk. You look at this video, where I exercise and show my cluttered desk… It was like this for about a month!

Declutter– Limit the amount of items on your workspace. If you have projects, don’t use post-it notes, use your planner or the calendar on your phone (Which is what I use), to write down anything that needs to be done.

Utilize– Use what your not using. In the video I had a box I got from the dollar store, I had pushed aside that I wasn’t using and ended up using that for my desk. In the video, I mentioned my box was used for my memory cards and anything related to my computer. It’s out of the way from little, curious hands that like to get into things (Out of sight out of mind).

Minimize– Throw away as much as possible. I had a plastic bag and it was very helpful to just go through all of the unnecessary paper that was creating clutter in my work area. Anything I was not using or would ever use was thrown away.

Organize– Everything needs to have a home. The papers I did need, I had a spare folder and put that on the side of my computer desk. Easy access to the things I need. Anything I will need later, I can easily get to, without having to stress to look for it.

Inspire– Hang something that helps to motivate, inspire and encourage you to think, create and inspire. In the video I have a plaque of a poem, my husband wrote me (Everytime, I look at it, it causes me to smile, it makes me happy). I also have an inspirational quote, I LIVE by and it’s a great reminder for me in the things I do in my school and work life.

“The key to success is to follow God’s plan.”

5 Negative self talk and the positive truths to overcome them

The negative self talk we give over ourselves has to stop. I’m here to help you overcome them.

Negative self talk

Negative self talk has been consistently when ever I’m doing anything new. I’ve learned that there HAS to be a place in your home that you see every day. It could be your Journal, your bathroom mirror, your planner, etc. Something that you will face everyday. Below is an example of where I have positive sayings around my home.

This picture is hung on my bathroom door.

Psalm 62:6- “He only is my rock and my salvation He is my defense; I shall not be moved.”

Here are some Negative Self talk, the lies we put on repeat in our lives and minds:

“I can’t do it”
“I don’t know what to do first.”
“No one care’s what I have to say?”
“I’m nervous, I’m scared, I’m fearful”
“Money is the problem, I can’t move forward.”
Insert the issue…

Here are the Positive self talk, the truths that will combat and conquer the negative lies:

“You can do all things through Christ.” (Philippians 4:13) – As you are moving forward in God’s call for your life God will sustain you and lead you as you move.
“Pray & Start with what’s in your house.” (2 kings 4:1-7)– Pray and ask God to show you want to first and/or start with what you already have: Message, product, blog, YouTube channel, where do you feel God leading you?
“There are people other in the world, waiting to hear what you have to say.” (Matthew 5:16-MSG) You are unique and different from other people, show that.
“God has not given you a spirit of fear.” (2 Timothy 1:7). Even if you are nervous, you have to do it afraid. You won’t know the outcome until you start moving.
“God supplies all of your needs and you CAN move forward.” God WILL supplies your needs. (Matthew 6:25-34). When God told Abram to go, God didn’t give him a particular area, He told him to go and the next day he moved (Genesis 12).
“Whatever the issue… God is there to Lead and Guide you” (Psalm 31:3).

What are some negative self-talk you have played in your mind? Let’s overcome in 2018.

3 reasons why the bible is the answer to success in business

Any question you may have, the bible has the answer to it. Specifically, when it comes to success in your business, the bible has the answer.

A few years ago , I didn’t know that God even cared what I was doing in my business. I thought He only cared whether I was following Him. When I went through a rough time in my marriage and business, it rocked my whole world. I Literally asked God to show me, exactly what steps do I need to take and what exactly do I need to do as an entrepreneur, mom, wife and everything in between.

That Journey led me to write my book: SMART GOALs for Christian Entrepreneurs. A foundation to help others that we’re like me, doing business the way every one else is when God calls us to operate under a different set of rules.

In this post, I want to show you, just 3 reasons why the bible is the answer to not just success in your business but everything in life. If you’re still not convincted then I have 7 more reasons why the bible is the answer to the success of your business when you sign up to my newsletter, you will get more encouragement and tools to help you in your entrepreneurship Journey. Click Here.

The Bible is tried and true

In the bible there are so many examples that show how God’s desire for us is to partner with us in our everyday lives including our business. He wants to be involved. Why would God give us the desire and then leave us to figure it out on our own? There’s a partnership, God desires, He wants to bless us, gifted us and He wants us to make a difference in the world but with His help.

We see an example of this in 2 Kings 4 when a widow approaches Elisha pleading for help. She lost her husband and was about to lose her two children to slavery, but rather than giving her money, God responds THROUGH Elisha and puts her to work!

God uses what little she had, a jar of oil, to help her create a profitable business which in turn allows her to pay her debts, keep her children out of slavery, and live on the surplus.

God is for us in our business. He desires for us to use our gifts and experiences in the marketplace as an act of worship no matter how insignificant they seem.

We serve a God who used a few drops of oil to launch a successful business, for a woman who was about to lose everything. God loves us and wants us to glorify Him in everything we do.

God already paved the way for success

God’s word literally says: “He has plans to prosper you.” (Jeremiah 29:11). It also says in (Psalms 32:8)- “The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” To get to the success your looking for, it involves doing things His way, the way He does things. An example is in Luke 5:1-11, where Jesus literally showed a group of Fishermen (Business), who worked a hard and disappointing night of not catching fish. No fish met, no money for their family. Then Jesus shows up to scene and tells Simon to throw the net back in… In Business doing something the same thing over and over again is called…. Insanity. You don’t fish in the middle of the day and there are no fish, Simon and the other fishermen tried unsuccessfully all night.

In Luke 5:5- “Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” There’s a difference when God tells you to do something versus what is the logical thing to do in Business. Following God’s way of doing things is always better.

God wants to see you succeed

Like a parent that wants to see their child, win at games, pass a test that they studied hard for or just because you love them and what to give them something to make them smile. God is the same way. The Scripture says In (Matthew 7:11)- “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

These truths are in the bible for you to learn and live by. There are more reasons why the bible is the answer to success in your business when you decide to do things the way God has set them up. Going into 2018, Let’s purpose ourselves to live my what God says and what seems like the “things to do” in business but seeking first God’s kingdom in doing business.

How to choose your word for 2018

Here’s how to choose a word, theme and Bible verse for 2018.

Setting goals in the beginning of the year is always about achieving or accomplishing something by the end of the year. I’ve learned that choosing a word or theme and then adding a scripture verse will give you vision, keep you focus and direction for your year. To get the results you are looking for.

Here are some steps you can do to choose your word for 2018…

Seek God First in prayer.

God can do a better job at showing you His plans and purposes for the season you are in and are going into. Just asking God what is it, He wants to do this year in your life will guide you on the word to help keep you focus and lead you in the months to come.

Take a note of the previous year.

Having a Journal and writing down what your mistakes, failures or anything you didn’t get a chance to do,  Make a note and bring that to God. See if this is the area, God wants you to work on and start from there.

Write the word.

After praying about it, seeking God’s face and writing down your mistakes and failures, what word is God showing you? As you read His word and living your life day by day, what word is He showing you. For me, the word for this year is Faith, Risk, Brave. These are the words I keep hearing in my everyday life.

I feel God calling me out and having step into a new season, I don’t know what that looks like, I know that the events in my life is leading me to step out. When you are seeking out your word, ask God to show you what He’s doing. I took a quiz from Dayspring called find your word to see what will come up and its BRAVE. Right in line with what God has shown me and I’ve been experiencing in my life.

Once you have it, create some graphics for it, print it and frame it. Post it in several places to remind you of what God is doing in 2018, for your life. Journal about why you chose the word and what it means to you.

To find a scripture to go with your word, go to OpenBible.info/topics

You can also go to Dayspring and take a quiz that will help you in finding that word. The quiz is a series of 7 super easy questions, you answer and at the end of the quiz they will present you with the word for 2018.

After you take quiz and the word resonates with you, then go to Openbible.info for the scripture to go with it. Find that scripture that hits you right between the eyes or hits you in the heart. This is how God speaks and the direction He may be leading you.

Now, you are complete with the word and direction in scripture in 2018. Put this word always before you, so you don’t forget. Let this be the guide to help you move forward into walking out your purpose in 2018.

Let me know in the comments below your word for 2018.
