I can’t handle that The Walking Dead season six finale is tonight.

For a few reasons:

Me continuing to watch the series is contingent on Daryl’s survivalDaryl better surviveIt will seriously be 90 minutes of me hoping Daryl survives
I reviewed scores of screenshots of TV screen stills via Twitter and have concluded that he likely was only shot in the shoulder (barring an “act of god” well-timed intervention in the last second, entirely possible)
… Even if he did get shot in the shoulder, that’s still awfulNorman Reedus is on Talking Dead right after

But jokes aside. Season six has definitely been their best, most epic season, in my opinion. Sundays will be a bit lackluster without it.

It also has a special place in my heart because it helped get me through a difficult time back in October/November. Where I really felt a kinship with Enid in certain ways. I knew that even if the rest of the week was shot to hell I had a safe place, every Sunday night, to think critically, be completely immersed in good writing and acting, as well as to have a front row seat to unfolding quality character development and Norman Reedus. It was a time and space I could depend on to lose myself a little in a world that was darker than my own, which was a welcome adventure. They’re little world, like mine, moved to Northern Virginia. And sometimes shit follows (but doesn’t it everywhere? if you’re a believer of the show’s larger premise).

I’m sure you can relate if you’re a longstanding fan of the show/comic book series. I mean even on the tougher days, what could I possibly have to complain about that compares to the prospect of a life where scraping dried human-turned-walker from my weapons was a daily reality? Although if Daryl is right there with you I guess how bad could it really be.

For those of you who follow me on Twitter (@loveannapatrick) you know I’ll be tweeting little quips as I do during the show every week. Feel free to join me - we can mourn together.

This started as a sentence and became a full blown The Walking Dead appreciate post. So that happened.

Crossbows and motorcycles,

Anna
