Happy New Year!

I'm just popping in to wish all my blog followers a very happy and peaceful 2011. I hope you will all be successful at whatever endeavours you are undertaking this year.

The new year is always a time when we take stock of what we have achieved thus far and it's also a time when many people make resolutions to do or not do certain things. It's quite natural for us to use this changing of the year to set new goals for ourselves and leave behind whatever has not been working for us. I hope you will all be able to look to this new year as one which holds opportunities for you to accomplish whatever it is that you wish for.

A quick update on what I'm planning for 2011:

1. I have a new collection of short stories being published this month. The title is: 'Fusion'. You can find an excerpt from the first story in the collection 'Only Time can divide us', in the 'Maria's Writing' section of my Goodreads author page.

2. I co-wrote an online novella at BestsellerBound with author Jason McIntyre. We are planning to publish the book as a free ebook. It's called 'Cutting The Fat'. I'll post more when I have the details. I believe it is going to be published this month.

3. I'm currently revising and editing my first novel Coincidences so that I can publish it as an ebook. 'Coincidences' was first published in 2001 as a hardback. It is currently out of print, but I hope this new revision will mean that more people will be able to read it. I didn't have an electronic version of the book, so I've taken the opportunity to re-type it and edit as I go along. I've learnt a lot about editing in the past 10 years as a writer, and will be using that experience to polish the text and update the book. I will keep the story the same, but I'm sure there will be some extra scenes added as I go along. If you wish to read my first novel as a hardback, I am currently offering them for sale through the Amazon.co.uk marketplace. You can find a link on my website

4. I have finished writing my fourth novel 'The Dream', and am currently editing it. It's a fantasy/paranormal/timeslip novel, so a bit different to my usual writing, but I had fun writing it, and it does contain many of the same themes as my other books: relationships, secrets, betrayal, forgiveness, love. It's also quite humourous.

I'm pleased to announce that I had some success with sales of my kindle titles in December. I sold a staggering 102 copies. I'm hoping that the popularity of my books will continue in this vein.

Thanks to everyone who has read any of my books this year, and for all your support.

New Year 2012 Pictures Comments - Photobucket

Thanks to all my blog followers for your support; thanks to all my readers for reading, reviewing and recommending my books; thanks to my fellow authors who encourage, inspire and offer support. I hope 2012 will bring you everything you wish for and more!

In 2012, I am planning to release at least two more books. One will be my new novel, a crime/psychological thriller; the other will be a fully revised and re-edited version of
Coincidences (the first novel I wrote) -- I'm going to publish a second edition because the first was only ever published in hardback, and is now out of print. For those of you interested in owning a First Edition copy, there are still some available through the Amazon.co.uk Marketplace. There are signed copies for £5.00 + postage and packing and these can be delivered internationally. Here's the link you need: Coincidences - hardback

The new version will be available sometime next year, hopefully, and I intend to make that available for download and also in paperback.

I also have lots of short stories that I haven't yet published. I know that there will be a 4th Volume of the BestsellerBound Anthologies produced sometime early next year, and that contains a new short story of mine.

I might also put together an anthology of my own at some point next year.

I've met some wonderful friends here on Goodreads, both readers and writers and I hope to get to know more of you in 2012.

Happy New Year!

Writing goals for 2012

I just wanted to let everyone know what I'm doing and when my next release is planned etc. etc.

I have three things on the boil at the moment:

1. I am editing the first novel I ever wrote, Coincidences. It was published way back in 2001 and was only ever available in hardback. I want to make the book available in paperback and also as an e-book. The second edition of Coincidences is almost finished. I have about another 40 pages to edit. The idea behind editing the book, is that I wanted to add some more background here and there, and generally tighten up the prose, as in my opinion it reads like a typical first novel at the moment and I want it to be the best it can be. I love the story and the characters, so I won't be changing any of that, I'm just fine-tuning it. I will be publishing it with a brand new cover, and hope to also have a book trailer available for it. All of this I aim to accomplish in the next 2-3 months, but we shall see...

2. My new novel is at the second draft stage at the moment. That means I've typed up my handwritten scrawl which was the first draft; I've read through it and corrected the glaring mistakes and the inevitable typos, and added a bit more 'meat' to the 'bones' (my first drafts are always just the bare bones of the story, and I add more when I edit). Now I will have to read it again, this time I will be concentrating on spotting any continuity issues and maybe adding a bit more drama. I've thought of a title... it might change again, as it has already changed once... but the tentative title is Haunted. I have designed the front cover, which is an acrylic painting inspired by the story, and I will be revealing that soon.
I'm not sure when the book will be published. The idea is that it will be published this year. It's a crime fiction/psychological thriller/paranormal-esque book :)

3. Finally, when looking through my old documents on my computer the other day, I came across about 11 short stories that I have not yet published. Some are quite old. I aim to edit those stories and publish a new anthology later in the year. I have also found an old floppy disk that goes back to about 1999. That is interestingly titled 'Short Stories'. I haven't been able to read the disk on my computer as it's not compatible, but as soon as I find a way I will hopefully recover some more long lost gems that I've forgotten about... I was really excited when I found the disk (sad, I know, I really should get out more, lol).

That's all for now. More news when I have it.

Coincidences - second edition

I will soon be releasing the second edition of Coincidences, the first novel I ever wrote. The new edition is the same but different :)
I have added extra scenes and generally edited the book. The original book was just over 67,000 words, the new edition is nearly 82,000.

Coincidences was only ever published in hardback, over 10 years ago. I love the story and wanted to make it available to more readers. Many readers now prefer ebooks. I will be publishing this new version in ebook and paperback.

The idea was just to make it more easily available to people who want to read it, but as every writer knows, no novel is ever really finished, so whenever we re-read a book that we've written, we are more than likely to chop and change it, add bits, edit bits out, etc. This is why I would advise all writers to never, ever read their books again once published unless they want to spend their entire life editing :)

I didn't have an electronic version of Coincidences to work from, so I had to type up the manuscript from scratch. This meant reading it and hence this led to me editing it...

I am pleased with the final version and hope that I have succeeded in my aim to improve the book, while staying true to the original story. I know many of my readers love the book, so I avoided making any major changes to the plot.

I have a new cover to reveal... here it is:

I took a photo of falling jigsaw pieces, to represent Alice's life and the way she was feeling in the book. I then messed around with the photo on iPhoto to change the colour because I think blue is most suited to the mood of the book.

The book is currently with my proofreaders and I am giving it the final once over before I'm ready to publish.

Coincidences - Second Edition, now available in paperback at Lulu.com!

I am very pleased to announce that the second edition of my very first novel, Coincidences is now published on Lulu.com! http://www.lulu.com/shop/maria-savva/...

In the next few weeks it will also be available more widely on Amazon, B&N, and all the usual retail channels. You can also order it from libraries and bookshops using the ISBN: 9780956410160

The e-book will shortly be available to download on Amazon.com

I have made a book trailer which is up on Youtube. Here's the link you need to view it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG7vDa...

The background music for my book trailer is a beautiful tune, Skating in Circles, by a talented musician I met on Twitter, Matt Keil. Matt is also part of the UK rock band Le Monnier.

He is a music teacher and as well as playing in the band he writes solo music. Here's a link to his website: http://www.mattkeil.com Skating in Circles is actually free to download from his site, it features on his album Regression Play, which you can listen to on his website.

Matt is multi-talented, also dabbling in video, photography and I hear he's writing his first book!

I'm very grateful to Matt for giving me permission to use Skating in Circles in the Coincidences book trailer. I think it fits the mood of the story so well.

I hope you enjoy the book trailer, and of course the book itself!

Happy reading!

I've finally given in...

... yes, I'm going to promote my novel,Coincidences using the Amazon KDP Select Programme.

I wasn't sure whether or not to go for it; after all, it does mean my book is tied to a 90 day exclusivity clause with Amazon, so I can't sell the e-book version anywhere else during that time. But given that most of my e-book sales are from Amazon anyway, I thought I would give it a try.

With the KDP Select option, my book is now available to Amazon Prime members to lend from Amazon's lending library. So if you're a member, please check out the book.

As part of the KDP Select programme, I can offer my book as a free Kindle download for a maximum of 5 days during the 90 day period.

This is one of the things that attracted me to KDP in the first place, because Amazon is a very powerful company and promotion on the site can help considerably with getting an author's name out there. As you can imagine, with millions of books available on the site, it's hard for an independent writer to sell even a few books. Using the free promotion, in theory more people will download the book and therefore it will be more visible on Amazon's bestseller lists, hopefully leading to more sales in the long run.

This is where you lovely people come in...

If you would be so kind as to take a minute to download my book for free from Amazon this Saturday 28th July or Sunday 29th July, it would help greatly. You don't even have to read it if you don't want to, but your download will make it more visible to people who may want to read it, as it will be higher up on the bestseller lists.

If you read it and review it, that would be even better, as reviews do help to sell books, too.

Here are the links you will need on Saturday and Sunday to download the book for FREE!! :)

Amazon US: http://www.amazon.com/Coincidences-eb...

Amazon UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Coincidences-...

And don't forget to tell all your friends!

Thank you, in advance, and I hope you enjoy the book :)
