Let me put things in perspective before you build on your relief and joy. I am going to talk about optimum level of exercise in general and not for a specific situation.

I am not a believer in a lot of exercise but for someone who has not done anything for long, even a little can sound a lot. So, let’s assume that you are a normal ur...

When and how much to praise kids?

Recently, I was forced to watch this movie, Grown Ups -2, by my kids. They are aged 10 and 12. I found the movie hilarious and thanked my kids for forcing us to watch it as a family. One scene that I liked and that portrays the modern parents very well was as follows:

A lady is showing various number cards to a child. She asks,’ what’s five plus seven?

The child replies,’ Twenty.’

‘Wow, well done,’ the lady encourages the child. I thought this would be one-off affair. But the child answ...

Are You A Victim of Office Politics?

Do you feel victimized by the office politics? Do you feel people at work gang-up against you?

Priya had worked on this report all night and was excited to present it to her boss in the morning. The boss seemed grumpy but she was sure that as soon as he saw the report, he would cheer up like a lily. As she handed over the report and waited for the boss to appreciate her work, she was in for a rude shock. He blasted,’ What’s this Priya? You got the brief entirely wrong. Look at the report subm...

9 Essential Tips for Parents on Financial Literacy for kids!

Even though I am an MBA in Finance and Marketing, I must admit that I became financially literate long after completing my education. It was a process of trial and error. It involved making some mistakes and then learning from them. Few decisions turned out to be good for me. Recently, CNBC TV18 requested us to feature in their program on personal financial planning (CNBC Program). It was during the course of shooting for the program that I retraced my own journey of financial planning, inves...

Should Parents Interfere After Marriage?

This question is especially relevant in Indian context. Parents in our society are notorious for maintaining a tight leash on children, even after they have left home or they get married. Today’s parents apparently work hard and try to provide the best for their children. If you think about it, it was always true. Irrespective of whether it was true in earlier times or not, I base this piece on my own observations in the society.

Having provided the best possible for their children, taken c...

How to deal with stress in your new job role.

Recently, a few professionals and managers contacted me through my blog (ashutoshm.com). They are experiencing severe stress in life as the company has put them into a new role or function. They don’t seem to have any experience in dealing with the demands of the new job.

One person shared that she is feeling lost while changing from operations to a front office sales role. While the going was good in operations role she was a high performer. The new sales role in a retail branch demands un...
