Smashwords End of Year Sale Starts December 25
Originally published here: Smashwords End of Year Sale Starts December 25
Mark your calendar!
On Christmas day we kick off our first annual Smashwords End of Year Sale.
Already, 30,000 indie ebooks and nearly 6,000 authors are enrolled to participate with deeply discounted ebooks priced at 25%-off, 50%-off, 75%-off and FREE. We expect thousands of more authors and books to join the sale in the next few days.
We'll offer an incredible selection of the best in indie fiction and non-fiction.
The sale starts December 25 and ends at midnight Pacific the evening of January 1.
The first few days after Christmas mark the biggest ebook selling days of the year as millions of readers around the world unwrap their new e-reading devices and smartphones start loading them with new ebooks to read. Let's help these readers read!
We'll promote the sale to over one million readers at Smashwords. Like our other high-profile sales such as Read an Ebook Week in March and the Summer/Winter Sale in July, we'll also promote it prominently on the Smashwords home page and across thousands of participating book pages.
To enroll, visit https://www.smashwords.com/dashboard/sitewidePromos today where you can enroll your books at the various discount levels. These discounts are exclusive to the Smashwords store and don't affect prices at other retailers. Participating authors and publishers can modify their discount levels at any time between now and the end of the sale.
As with all sales events at the Smashwords store, this is a collaborative marketing event where authors help authors. Every participating author, through the promotion of their own books, amplifies the opportunity for fellow authors as readers stuff their carts chock full of deep-discounted ebooks from their favorite indie authors.
If you're a reader, be sure to check in with the sale daily because new exclusive deals will join the sale each day.
With every ebook you buy, you're directly supporting the hard work of these writers and small independent presses. Smashwords pays royalties of up to 80% of the list price, which means more of the reader's dollar goes to directly to the author and publisher. The royalty level for the Smashwords store is based on dollar size of the customer's shopping cart. It's common for customers of our exclusive sales to load their carts full of dozens and sometimes hundreds of books. This means even 99-cent ebooks often earn authors and publishers up to 80% list during our sales. Indie authors earn only 35% list of such low priced books at Amazon. Thanks for supporting Smashwords authors and publishers!
Happy holidays, everyone. May your 2018 be blessed with more time to read!

Just Another No Good Indie Author with Only One Thing

She's just another no good indie author.
Maybe you have her on your news feed? You're not sure when you followed her but you see her posts from time to time. You think she may have been a friend of a friend or something? You've thought about unfollowing her because let's face it, you just haven't gotten around to reading her work because your too busy but you pause for a second, think again and decide to keep her because her posts have a substance to them.
You love to read and devour all the latest stories on the charts. You have reading apps for your phone, an e-reader and for your favorite author's you have the paperbacks. You have just finished another chart topping story and are eager to start another. You're undecided, you hop onto your news feed and there she is, with a cheesy post advertising one of her books. The cover looks professional but you know it's not because her post is casual and doesn't have that little grey text indicating it's promoted. Over the course of time you have learned that she is on her own. What holds you back? Doubt, disappointment, you only want to invest time into reading something that is widely accepted?
You decide that you're still unsure and take a moment to check out her profile since she has that something that has kept you from unfollowing. She has a list of all her favorite books. This indie, she is well read, just like you. Hell, some of your favorites are on her list. This no good indie has class. You take it a step further and click on her retailer link. It directs you to her books. You read the descriptions and they are compelling. You're still not sure. Why give her a chance?
You close her retailer link without purchasing any of her books and land back onto her profile page. For a no good indie she has one thing going for her, a spark. It's that little ignition that drives her to keep going, doing what she loves even though she does it with a stigma already formed by others. She doesn't have a ton of followers but she keeps posting to the dark corners of the news feed, that spark keeps her lit even though it appears like no one is paying any attention.
You take notice, she just posted something, news that one of her e-books is listed free this week. No one has liked her post or has commented or shared the news. Maybe it's time you react? Maybe she is just another in the sea of others chasing dreams that won't amount to anything but you know that maybe is a word you have to say because you haven't confirmed it yourself.
Her spark grants her confidence in putting one of her books out there for free and you know it's a sales tactic but also regard the fact that she likely spent a year working on it only to let all those hours spent go for free.
She maybe is just another no good indie author but has shared with you that one thing she has and this time, you kindly accept.

Why Are You Being a Chicken? My Fear of Sharing

I have always had a shyness to me. When I was a child I would hide my face behind my mom's leg when meeting someone new. When I was in school I quickly learned that speaking in front of a class made my palms sweat and heart thump and as an adult who started publishing novels and learning that I have to get my feet wet all those anxieties made their appearance deep inside my soul. Marketing and pitching my work and reaching out to strangers was an entirely other level of having to overcome the shyness.
I started off writing in science-fiction and then went to writing in the romance genre. The first step to overcoming my shyness was that I started off sharing the news of my science-fiction novel (My first published book) with family, friends and the public. Though I was shy, the satisfaction I gained from accomplishing the task helped me swallow some of my nerves and I got over myself and that fear of having attention on my book and me.
I wish I could say that I have conquered my fear and that I'm thriving when attention is on me and my work but it is still a work in progress. It's one thing to publish a book and have the attention, which I am so thankful for and sci-fi is a much loved genre. People are passionate about it and I have learned that once you gain a fan of science-fiction you gain an ultimate cheerleader. I enjoy writing sci-fi, I'm comfortable with it. I have some graphic scenes in mine, dynamic relationships and subject matter that deals with death and all those things, and bought some of the topics are sensitive I got over the fear and shared.
After I finished that novel I got inspiration to write a new novel which turned into a series. It is romance right down to the core. It deals with similar subject matter in dealing with dynamic relationships, loss as well as romantic scenes and subject matter that calls into question doing what's right. Both my science-fiction novel and romance novels cover topics that may be sensitive to certain readers and for me even though I loved writing and sharing a work with others it still puts a fear in my heart.
I'm afraid that the stories won't be well received. There is nothing else other than that side of a personality that begs, "Please love my work" I'm more comfortable in sharing the sci-fi than the romance which is silly because when you compare my ability and skill, my sci-fi was my first work where I was learning everything about being an author. I was still learning my voice, whereas the romance novels are my second, third and fourth books and with each novel my author muscles get stronger. I write out the reasons and they are totally illogical but that fear it still clings to my heart.
So we come back to the question of why are you being a chicken? The answer, "I don't know.." but I do know that I have to shake it and share because what's the point of being creative if you can't.
About the Author: C.R. Misty is currently writing a romance trilogy. Her books are available online at Kindle, Nook, Kobo, ibook, inktera, OverDrive, Amazon & Createspace

When Emoji's Take Over

That little face that looks at me from the bottom left of my keyboard. It has an ear to ear perfect smile, straight teeth and black doe eyes. I imagine that it's a he, like he is saying in a mousy voice, "Mrs. Misty touch my face and see what you can use instead of words!"
Mr. Emoji explains, "You can be creative." He is trying to convince me. He continues, "Emoji's are fun." I glance at him, he is smiling. He continues, "Cool people use them."
Cool people? I hesitate for a second and say, "Fine, I'll take a look and see if I can add a few." I wonder how much I had to drink the night before.
There are rows upon rows of emojis, faces, families, animals, food, cars, buildings, flags and symbols. I couldn't even tell you what half of them mean. I think for a few minutes if I could really use any of these in my messages. Will people understand or will they just get frustrated and skip over my message?
Right now I am working on creating some marketing material to promote an up coming Kindle Countdown deal for one of my Romance Novels and I am trying to come up with some interesting messaging aimed to go out on Facebook, Twitter and Google+. My goal is to attract attention and get people to click the link I provided in the message.
I decide that I can use some in place of words. I got to work and came up with these.

Here are some more from the campaign without Emoji's

I had fun coming up with these because it helped me get away from what I typically do when trying to market a sale which is something to the tune of, "Please, please PLeasE buy my book!" The first post to my campaign is set to launch October 21st and will run until October 28th.
If you enjoyed this please like and share!

Fall in Love with Everything That I Love: Fall Season Colors, Clothes, Food and Relaxation
I love that the fall is the warm introduction to the holiday season. The warm colors that the season brings, the food and the fact that cozy sweaters come into style. I admit that I am more of a summer time girl but the fall for me marks a change of pace, a chance to slow down and enjoy the little things in life and to relax.
My favorite fall color is orange and orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attractions, success, encouragement and stimulation. Orange is a warm color and looks stunning on the trees here in Canada.
I picked up an orange top this season, similar to this one, at a retailer in my home town and absolutely love it. I pair it with dark denim jeans and either gold or silver jewelry pairs well with the color. I’ll be wearing it to thanksgiving dinner.
I love fall food. Apple and pumpkin pie, gravy, mashed potatoes. I also love turkey but in small amounts as it makes me sleepy. This fall I went outside of my typical fall foods to try something new to me. Sweet Potatoes were never a staple in my families cooking and while watching the TV show “Shark Tank" I learned that Sweet Potato Pie was huge and one pitcher on the show had a pitched to the sharks his successful Sweet Potato Pie business. I watched wondering okay, why have I never heard of this pie and I got to try this recipe and see what the deal is. I have picked this recipe to try this season and wanted to share it with you. If you love pumpkin pie you will probably enjoy this.

I have shared my favorite fall color, new fall recipe and now on to my favorite way to relax. I love to read in my free time. I love the idea of getting comfortable on a couch under a blanket or cozied up in bed under the covers with a book that is captivating. I love reading to the point where you forget where you are and jump right into the story.
Whether you love romance, mystery, science-fiction, fantasy, thriller & suspense novels, there are tons of great books in many genres that go on sale. Browse by genre or author and fill up your e-reader. See for yourself here,
My new Romance Novel, “Deeply Bound” is featured as a Kindle Countdown Deal from October 21st to 28th along with other amazing books.
Enjoy the Fall Season & thank you for reading my post.
