The Vast Expanse

Vast Expanse

.

Something Deeper than spiraling words

Something more Keen than the Sweetly Honeyed phrases I tend to warble

Like a lark, or perhaps the loon

Sharing, yet Protecting;

But why?

When shadows fall amid the dusky Twilight

And the milky stream of starlight Whispers overhead,

My Spirit Sings in measures of Harmony I scarce may fathom,

I lift my head to the sky

Seeking and Seeing the Vast Expanse of chaotic quiet

And the Innumerable eons and epochs of time

Serenading me from distances unknown,

Yet as Close as that which makes me who I am;

Elements Created in the furnace of the cosmos

Now stand in Mute Wonder,

Gazing upward at their Home,

Wondering and Waiting amid this Vast Expanse of whispering calamity,

For this Heart to shake Free from its shackles,

For this Spirit to grasp in Understanding

All it already Comprehends,

But while I stand wordlessly;

With the jumble of technology and terrestrial thinking,

Ignoring the Vast Expanse of Wisdom Speaking Quietly

Into the Vast Expanse of silence

Sleeping

In me.

A Dangerous Game – A Breaking Into The Light #Teaser

Mountain Portal

.

Behind them, where the portal exposed by the Great Gate’s falling melded two opposing realms into one, the shadows beneath the mountain heaved and hissed with the threatening vocalizations of the Reviled.

Crimson stained arrows shot from the darkness, seeking any who might be unfortunate enough to find themselves in their trajectory, yet these tactics could be little more than intimidation; a warning of the conflict to come when the Light diminished.  The Liberators knew this and stood on either side of the yawning portal, making their presence known by creating a game out of knocking aside with their swords as many arrows as they could and by returning the insidious calls from the presently thwarted Demonfey.  Tauntingly, they issued brash invitations for the Cursed Ones to come forth; fully cognizant of the fact that they could not bear the brilliant Light filling the clearing, yet jeering at their cowardice.

“It is a treacherous game we play.”  Evondair noted as he stood beside Reydan, both malefey wordlessly observing the derisive bantering going on while standing over their fallen comrade in the silently descending flurries that had begun falling.

You and I

You and I

.

Sweet Entanglement of Blissful Sighs,

You Whisper to my Heart in

Songs only my Spirit knows;

Lover of my Every Whim,

Arch Angel of my Passion and Truest

Minister of my every Dream,

Reach, Sweetest Darling, with Your

Exquisite Hands,

Touch this Love that sends deepest Shivers

Through the very Essence of me;

For All I am,

All I could ever Be,

All I shall ever aspire to become

Already Knows you;

Your most Handsome details,

Your guileless Gaze Whispering

Of All You are,

All You could ever Be,

All you Shall Ever Aspire to Become;

Desire Unified,

Love Eternal,

Most Beguiling Kiss and Enamored Sigh;

Each Second,

Each Heartbeat,

You

And I

She

She

.

She

Spills Romance in lavender ribbons

Whispering secrets upon the tide

Of Shimmers sparkling from her Gentle Smile

Of Silence stirring the shadows that hide

She

Dances upon the velvet zephyr

Of Midnight’s lucent Harmony

With airy notes of Transcendence

With Poignant strings of Memory

She

Caresses the Dreamer’s nomadic Musings

Reveries of Passion, Billows of Time

As darkness scatters from her Embrace

As Sighs breathe deep, Soporific, Sublime!

She

In a ruffled dress of Nighttide

She

The Unreserved Heart’s Sweet Bride.

This poem was Inspired by Paul Militaru’s Beautiful photograph of the moon, as well as the caption he gave it on his blog “She…In a Sea of Clouds.”  Immediately the poem whispered in my thoughts and, with his Kind Permission, shall hopefully whisper to you as well[image error]  Thank You Paul!

Friday (Fey) Fantasy – Concealed

Shadows

.

Although he remained cloaked in the shadows, she could see he was tall and was dressed in very dark colors, which was quite odd for a Fey of the Light.  Most fey she knew were fair of aspect, fair of countenance and fairly adorned, yet he pressed into the shadows of the forest and was only barely discernible. Most startling of all was the deep red of his aura.

She could not prevent herself from turning at this shocking discovery to gaze at him directly, yet, in that moment, he vanished into the darkness like a wolf disappearing into fog.  Utterly exasperated and unable to contain her sudden outburst, she cried out after him in the loudest voice she could muster.

“Who are you?” Only silence answered her, but she could not bring herself to shrug him off and continue along her way; she knew full well he remained, watching her; he had simply concealed himself better.

The Phoenix Project #BookReview

Phoenix

.

A thought provoking and compelling dystopian world that will change the way you view justice…

A man fights for life—and redemption—in D. M. Cain’s riveting new novel, The Phoenix Project.

Britain has descended into chaos as violence and terrorist attacks seethe across this once-peaceful country. Outraged by the steady stream of lawlessness, citizens demand a harsher penal system, and the Phoenix Project is born.

In prisons across the country, inmates fight to the death in a weekly bloodbath while the nation cheers them on.

Raven Kennedy, a prisoner who has never forgiven himself for his unspeakable crime, struggles against his own guilt and self-loathing. But even as the real war wages on within himself, Raven is forced to battle some of the prison’s most ruthless killing machines. Can he survive long enough to unravel the anger and regret that shackle him—and one day find the forgiveness he seeks?

***

I recently joined the Rave Reviews Book Club (which I can tell you more about “in person” if you find yourself curious) and among its many perks is the prerequisite to read and review 4 books a year.  This does not sound like a great deal to many of you, I am sure, but as I do not customarily do a vast deal of reading, mainly because I am more often doing writing of my own, it presented its own set of challenges. However, I am always Happy to help support my Fellow Indie Authors and after perusing the list of possible books for review, I picked up a copy of The Phoenix Project by DM Cain.

After reading the book’s cover description, I was already intrigued to learn more, not only about the history of this futuristic society where brutality has become the norm, much as it had been in Roman times, but also by the main character, Raven. It did not take long to connect with his tortured soul as he was beautifully and lovingly developed; his pain and the trials he faces to survive, outwardly and inwardly, are poignant and marvelously developed in a story that delves far beyond the gladiator theme I originally envisioned.

Aptly named, The Phoenix Project tells a stirring, vivid tale of a self-destructive soul who eventually discovers Hope and Renewal through the inspirations and insights provided by those he meets on his journey. Entertaining, yet thoroughly provocative, Raven’s story captured my imagination and, very quickly, my heart.  I unreservedly gave this book 5-Stars.

D.M. Cain is a dystopian and fantasy author working for US publisher Booktrope. She has released two full length novels: The Phoenix Project – a psychological thriller set in a dystopian future, and A Chronicle of Chaos – the first in a dark fantasy series. She is currently working on the next novel in the series, ‘The Shield of Soren’, and a novella to accompany it.  You can read more about her via her Amazon Author Page here:  http://www.amazon.com/D.M.-Cain/e/B00LTTX3PA/ref=dp_byline_cont_ebooks_1

And you can grab your copy of The Phoenix Project Here: https://www.amazon.com/Phoenix-Project-D-M-Cain-ebook/dp/B0195A6AYK

I hope you enjoyed this review, the first of more to come[image error] After all, we cannot grow if we do not make the attempt, right?
