Drifting With the Rill of Dreams

Rill of Dreams

A Lovely and Inspiring Collaboration I wrote with Neha of Forgotten Meadows Blog in 2015

.

Whispering Brook of Inspiration,

Tributary of fair Muses;

Sparkle through my Questing Dullness,

Glimmer,

Shimmer,

While the world confuses.

Your mind drifted

in the cool evening breeze

as you dreamt with the sky

in ease

Rill of Enigmatic Dreaming,

River of Harmonious Light;

Beguile as Reality sits moping,

Ring,

Then Sing,

Through the Harrowing Night.

And your dreams scattered

like the tiny branches

illuminated by the golden light

of the sun

Living Source of Contemplation,

Bejeweled with Notions Bright and Fair;

Meander through this place of Sorrow,

Conspiring,

Inspiring,

While Dreams Entice and Prepare.

Your heart swayed

in the gentle, peaceful love

that was bestowed from far above

as you drifted with your dreams…

with your day’s work done.

Drifting in Dreams

.

This poem was written in collaboration with Neha from http://www.forgottenmeadows.wordpress.com. Neha’s lovely, lyrical, free-form poetry Always brings a Smile to my face and a Sigh to my Heart. Her Gentle, unhurried, effortless style makes her beautiful poetry delightful and easy to read, making you want to read more, and more, and more. (Don’t believe me? Stop on over to her blog and discover for yourself that I’m not making this up!) Neha and I decided to write two separate poems on the Theme: DREAMS. We each selected our own image as Inspiration and wrote three verses entirely independently of the other with the intent to merge them into one verse for the collaboration. My verse and image begin our poem, like a Dreamer Singing Praises to the Dream itself, then Neha’s verse comes in (in italics) as an answer: The Dream Whispering back to the Dreamer. Knowing how wistful and soothing Neha’s poems Always are, I was not surprised (Yet Utterly Amazed!) at the manner in which our independently written poems complimented each other. I hope you enjoy our joint venture and I HOPE there may be another someday.

Neha, Thank You for leaping into my crazy little idea with such enthusiasm and, as ever, such Grace and Delicate Poise. Writing with you has been an Absolute Delight[image error]

The Book and Volume of This Distracted Globe

Book and volume

.

(My very first post ever!)

The Book and Volume of This Distracted Globe

Or Book and Volume

Or BnV

Admittedly, I am an amateur.  Sure, I’ve heard about blogs for years, heard people talking about posts round the proverbial water cooler, but I’ve never actually read one.

Nope, not a single one, but I know how to spin a tale; I understand and appreciate the basics of English grammar (although I don’t always obey proper form and I do love a split infinitive) so I thought, why not?  Give it a go.  Have a bash, what’s to lose, really?  Bit of time.  After all, how hard could it be, sitting at my laptop listening to the sounds of the ocean, or a nice thundery rainstorm, or the ethereal music of Delirium all thanks to the wellspring we know as You Tube.  And even If the only person who finds said blog interesting, amusing or, if I’m lucky, entertaining, should be me than that’s just splendid; because if you can’t take a little time out of your day to amuse yourself, then perhaps you’re taking things a bit too seriously. (but I digress)

So here it is, entry one.  Or post number one.  Or what have you.  Now, for those of you who do not know me (yet) perhaps this would be an opportune moment to insert some sort of disclaimer, alert you to some of my comparatively annoying idiosyncrasies, and enlighten you to some of my peculiarities. (Most of these are one in the same by the way)  So here goes: first and foremost I’m a word enthusiast, aficionado, and devotee.  I love, admire, aspire to emulate and find myself positively piqued (by) Shakespeare, Dickens, Austin, Blake, Poe, or the like.  Odd, perchance, but I’m quite certain you’ve probably already ascertained this for yourself.  Yes, words….words….words.. (to quote the Master).  They fill me with inspiration, they bring me to tears or sometimes they make me LOL, ….they can often, also, bore me to bits (insert government or math related blather here).   So you may find yourself reading ten pages of paragraph long sentences brimming over with 6 syllable words just to find out that all I’ve really said is I don’t actually have anything to say.  Yeah, I’m good at that.

I should also probably warn you that, although I find a great many things interesting and will, most likely, remark on any number of them in a given post, I don’t have a particular objective in mind ( at this point anyway) for this blog.  Variety is the spice of life after all, so one never knows what I may sit down and prattle on about, at length, mayhap insipidly, but at the very least ( and dare I say, hopefully!) you won’t find yourself feeling preached at when you’ve reached the end.  That, you may be sure, is not my intention.

So there you are and here I am, two partners in time; one sharing, one gaining (little or nothing, but perhaps at least a smile…if I am successful) giving and receiving, for better or for worse….(yes, I see the direction this metaphorical segment is taking and I would break off, but where this is going illustrates so well another of my quirks, which is, though I hate to admit it, that I do tend to find meaning in even the simplest things)…so to get back to my metaphor… if you think about it, being a writer and a reader is rather like being in a relationship ( I was going to use the M word, but we barely know each other yet).  There’s good, there’s bad, there’s mutual intrigue, there are laughs and tears, arguments and betrayals of one form or another, but in the end, it’s generally worthwhile.  (there, that wasn’t too bad, was it?)

Ok, so you’ve read four paragraphs now and, although I’m only going on instinct, I’m thinking I should probably begin to wrap this up.  Not very educational, to be sure; not very interesting, conceivably, but maybe, just maybe, when you are at work tomorrow talking to your friends ( or if you haven’t any of those at your job ) your colleagues, or when you’re stuck in traffic on your way in or way home talking to one of the aforementioned on your mobile, or when you’re chatting with some stranger you just met on the tube, you might just tell them about what you did last night.

How you were sitting at your computer/laptop/iPad/electronic devise of some sort, bored with the mundane, hum-drumness of Facebook and Twitter and you decided, (possibly against better judgment), to strike out on your own.  It was then that you happened upon the most… (insert adjective of your choice here) (yes, interactive blog….nifty, eh?)… blog you’ve ever read in your life and, although you’re not sure if it was about anything in particular, you did have a laugh once or twice, but it didn’t last long and, while it seemed inane at the time and, although you thought you’d never be interested in reading it again, you can’t stop thinking about it.  In fact, you can’t even say why.  What you can say is that the author might just possibly be off her hinges, one pie short of a picnic, not quite reaching warp speed; still, she had a way of writing that made you want to read more….maybe,…although you can’t be certain because there was only one entry.   And now you’re left with the most annoying set of circumstances imaginable because all you really want to know is, what the heck is she going to be nattering on about next?

Singing Majesty of Waking Day

.

Singing Majesty of Waking Day,

Bright clear Spectacle of Delicate Play,

Unstrung bow of Harmonious chords,

Enchanting Serenade, Winsomely Implored;

Birdsong Sweet upon the Rising Gaze

Of Daytides shifting lavender haze,

Enshrouded in Beguiling Laughter and Sighs,

As the Carol of Ages chirrups and cries;

Dulcet Symphony of Transcending Aplomb,

Waken this Dreaming with Melodious Balm,

And Shape each Breath which Graces this Breast,

With Tranquility and Unity by which All Life is Blessed!

Vigilance

Vigilance

.

Sharp as flint

In mists of Shallow Haze,

Unbroken glass

Upon the Bluster of Days;

These Tears restrained

In Vigilance far tested,

Before the Bright Glitter of Morn

My lassitude has tested;

The sands of time Unraveled,

Cascading tapestries

Upon the wall,

As echoes of sweet misery

In Lilting tones Temptingly call;

The shades of yesterday,

Now far agone

Hasten sorrow to my mind,

As Larks serenade with fragile song

And Solitude Embraces,

Murderously Kind.

Be Not Afraid

Be Not Afraid

.

Though the jagged edge of

Fear and Doubt

Fill the Heart with Trepidation,

Though the wrenching Memory of

Past pains

Rush in to demoralize and devastate,

Though the innate Desire to Protect

Yourself, Your Heart,

Builds a wall that secludes and separates;

Be Not Afraid,

Stand Upon the Mountain

Of Your Hope,

Reach for the Glittering Sparkle

Of Possibility,

Embrace Your Spirit

By Filling Your Heart

With the Love for which it Longs,

With the Laughter it Seeks,

With the Keen Delight for which it Yearns,

If only for the briefest moment in Time,

For Moments are what Fill a Life,

Sparkling Gemstones of Precious Memory,

And Shadowy jet lignite of Challenges

Now Contrasting in Shimmers that make those

Diamonds of Joy and Contentment

Glimmer even more Brightly;

Be Not Afraid,

Sing into the Vast Expanse,

Shine Your Beautiful Light,

And Be at Peace with

You!

Friday Fantasy – Midnight Archer

Midnight ArcherB&W

.

Luring Zephyr of Silver Nighttide,

Glistening upon the bare Silken Road

From which my Musings extend

To Wander,

Piqued by curiosity while Shadows Goad;

Sparkle of Darkest Velveteen Sea,

Whispering in Lilting carols, Unsung;

Begging Enchantment from the depths

Of my Dreams

While the Bow of the Midnight Archer is Strung;

Piquant Charms of Dilatants Muse,

Beguiling Suggestion to Entangle and confuse,

Entreat my Unraveled Notions of shifting Thought

When, by your Tantalizing Ruse I am Helplessly Caught.

Friday (Fey) Fantasy – Summerfest

SummerfestI

The vale for Summerfest was on the boundary of the village, set against the backdrop of Veryn Falls, a waterfall that plummeted steeply from the heights of the Ryvyn Mountains.

Splashing from hundreds of feet above, Veryn Falls’ crystalline waters were cushioned by a multitude of moss covered bastions and ivy-laden arches, and the waters fell, ‘plashing and laughing, into an emeraldine pool that stretched out its bountiful hand at the base of the falls and flowed onward through the village, supplying water and life to all.

Summerfest III

The broad clearing around its bejeweled precincts sparkled with hundreds of tiny lanterns strung through the surrounding forest canopy and was brightened by cheerful fires and glowing torches scattered throughout. Tables of food and fountains of drink were placed advantageously, musicians played the flute and the drum, the lyre and the lute, dancing lacewings flitted and darted, and the entire scene was alive with palpable joy and anticipation.

As the seasons shifted , the fey of the light gathered together for a celebration of color and brightness. They dressed in glittering, bejeweled costumes; decorated their homes with sparkling lanterns, filled their porches and gardens with fresh fruit, crisp garden vegetables, sweet baked treats and sugary indulgences for any passerby to enjoy, and played a multitude of musical instruments in a discordant symphony of jubilant sound.

Summerfest 1

Parading along the avenues from home to home in dancing, fluttering, gleeful revelry, fey of all ages delighted in the company of their friends and family while eating and drinking the sweet temptations of the season, and at the end of the evening’s festivities, all fey, young and old, joined together to venerate the arrival of the Season of Light.

Summer Triangle Thru Trees

They gathered in the Clearing of the Stars, where the forest canopy contracted and one could gaze up, out of the darkling hedge of ancient trees, into the glittering night sky, enchanted by the glowing moon and the sparkling stars overhead. Drawing together, they began the Incantation of the Changing Seasons led by their village Celebrant, their voices subdued and solemn after a full day of laughing and singing. As they spoke the lyrical invocation, they paced through an intricate dance, which marked the ending of the darkness and cold of winter and the beginning of the growing and gathering seasons, with austerity. Bowing, pausing, stepping, clapping, pausing, clasping hands, turning, releasing, passing, turning, pausing, spiraling, clapping and repeating until the midnight horns rang through the clear night air.

Summerfest II

Life and Light were in their fullest glory on this fair night, dazzling the eye from the heavens overhead, spilling verdant green from the forest canopy, blossoming in sweet beauty and supplying bounty for every life. It was the longest day of the year, the pinnacle of joyful abundance and Light loving fey everywhere rejoiced for the profusion.
