RT 2017 - Photos!
I just got back from the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention in Atlanta, feeling both exhausted and refreshed at the same time. Here are a few photos from the week:
Stacy Finz, Amanda Clay and I found Rhett Butler at a restaurant :)
Chatting with the wonderful Gemma Brocato after the Kensington signing
We were too exhausted to go make it out to any RT events one night, but a suite full of authors turned out to be even more fun! With Gemma Brocato, Julie Reece, Juliette Cross, Kristi Rose, AS Fenichel and Stacy Finz. You might hear more from this group in the future...
Finally, here's a preview of the books I brought home for my subscribers! Check out my newsletter these next months for details.

Blackmore Inc. + What I'm Reading
Blackmore Inc.
That’s the name of a fictional security firm based in Sydney that’s run by four hot men. And guess what? I’ll be writing three of their stories for the new Harlequin DARE line! At least I think the firm will be called Blackmore, Inc., though at this stage, a lot can still change.
But I’ll give you a quick overview of the heroes of these books:
Cameron Blackmore: American, runs security firm Blackmore, Inc., Australia, along with his team. They do all kinds of security, including the traditional guarding that his grandfather built the business on, which features in all three books. Cameron is in long-standing conflict with his father, president of all of Blackmore Inc. He’s also hero of Book #1.
Simon Rodriguez: Miami native who left the girl of his dreams behind – the girl he could never have – swearing he’d never return. He and Cameron met each other in the army, and Cameron hired him when he took over the Sydney business. Hero of Book #2.
Max Jensen: Cameron’s college roommate, wealthy, never serious, from a big Australian ranching family and former rugby player. The only things that get him worked up are his older brother and Natasha. Hero of Book #3, set on the Great Barrier Reef!
Derek Latu: Max’s former teammate on the Manly Rugby Union Football Club, and the only member of the team who is married at the start of the series. Will he get his own book? We’ll see.
What I’m Reading
The books I’m writing are very sexy, featuring lots of (I hope) fun dialogue balanced with compelling emotion. This goes for both the Stockholm Diaries, Alice episodes, One Night in Stockholm and One Night in Paris: Short, Steamy Romance - Episode #2 of 4, as well as the new Blackmore Inc. books. In preparation, my reading pile features books to help me with all different aspects writing.
If You Only Knew
Higgins is a master of dialogue. Really. I loved this book, which features hilarious back-and-forth between the heroine and a reluctant hero with a heart-breaking past. Higgins achieves a perfect balance between fun and seriousness in this book.
The Viper
I’ve been sucked into McCarty’s Highlander Guard series, and The Viper and The Rock are probably my favorites. Filled with melodrama that’s based on actual historical events (see author’s notes in the end), the sexy in these books really pulled me in.
The Dog Stars
You may have seen me mention this book before. No, I don’t know the author, nor do I have any sort of vested interest in selling this book. It’s quite simply the best book I’ve read in a long, long time. This isn’t a romance, but it does speak to the topic of love. Heart-wrenchingly emotional and overall incredibly inspirational, as a writer and in general.
Vicious
This is a super-sexy, revenge-to-love story that’s gotten a lot of hype, so I’m curious. I bought this a while ago, and I plan to read it right before I write Book #2, Simon’s story – also featuring revenge.
With Every Breath
This is romance abroad, my favorite! I’m curious to see what Riley does with travel + romance.
Write Naked: A Bestseller's Secrets to Writing Romance & Navigating the Path to Success
I don’t read a ton of books on writing anymore – I did much more of that in college. But this one looks great, a mix of practical and inspirational, so I bought it. Perfect read for the RT Convention in Atlanta.
P.S. Are you going to RT, too? Let me know – I have some gifts for readers I meet in person!

Hot on Ice: A Hockey Romance Anthology

Published on March 28, 2017 07:49
Hot on Ice - A Hockey Anthology
When I heard about Hot on Ice: A Hockey Romance Anthology, I pre-ordered it immediately, just based on the premise: an NHL team wins the Stanley Cup, and as each member of the Rajun Cajuns (!) has his day to celebrate with the cup, it works its magic and helps bring them love.
Sports romance fans – is that a brilliant idea for a collection?
So when this book was delivered to my Kindle last week, I started reading right away. I’m about half way through, picking and choosing stories at random, so far, this anthology has really blown me away.
Here’s what makes this anthology special – each story is feels unique, by different authors and with very different tones, and yet they’re tied together by the team’s story (some characters make cameos in others’ stories) and by the Stanley Cup handler, Edwin. And this makes the anthology as a whole work beautifully. I found some stories with a more traditional sports romance feel and others that took me by surprise in the best ways possible.
Go into this anthology with an open mind, and I promise you’ll be rewarded.
The collection has some authors that are familiar to me and some that are new. This review just focus on a few stories, but every story I’ve read so far was well worth my time.
I went straight for Kim Golden’s Under the Midnight sun, about a Swedish player, injured, who makes his way back to Umeå and gets a second chance with the woman he left behind. This story very deftly and smoothly takes on her experience as an Eritrean immigrant in Sweden, her struggles and achievements and the happiness love brings. Don’t miss this one.
Kimberly Kincaid’s Deep Check about a player returning to his hometown to face a tough past is a perfect first story for this collection. It’s just what I’d expect from a sports romance in all the best ways.
Lena Hart’s Courage was one of those stories that took me by surprise. I wasn’t expecting a marriage-on-the-rocks story, and Hart handles the topic so well. Mason Courage is promoted to head coach just as his wife files for divorce. What proceeds is a sexy, tender and emotional tale of the very realistic challenges of balancing family life with an extremely demanding career.
There are plenty more stories to discover of all kinds – for example, male/male romance isn’t my go-to genre, but Robin Covington’s Free Agent is fantastic. I highly recommend it.

New (Hot!) Release + Giveaways!
Ready to meet Jonas and Alice?
The first two episodes in their story, One Night in Stockholm and One Night in Paris are live on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited! These are #1 and #2 of four short episodes, each sexy and emotional - and meant to be read in one sitting.
I just love writing about Jonas, a man who can't get over his past. He's everything Alice has stayed away from... and everything she wants.
Here’s what early reviewer are saying about One Night in Stockholm:
“Deep, thoughtful and super sexy” – Jill
“I love the descriptions and romance of Stockholm that Ms. Hunter evokes” – Kiersten
“hot and steamy read” – Rebecca (not me, of course, though I agree (; )
“Ms. Hunter creates wonderful characters” - Fran
… and about One Night in Paris:
“the hottest scenes I've read in a while” - Paige
“their sex scenes are off the charts” – RJ
... but (ahem) the story is good, too of course . It’s just that the last sex scene in One Night in Paris is... well, you’ll see! Let’s just say that these are definitely the sexiest stories I’ve written so far.
Ready for a taste? If so, enter in my release week giveaway! Win one of four $25 gift cards here by reviewing or sharing my books! Go to the Giveaways tab on my website to enter.
Thanks so much for reading. I’m so excited to hear what you think!

News, What I'm Reading, and More!
New year, new hopes, new books. Welcome, 2017!
Before getting to the news, I wanted to mention my Valentine’s Day companion. The book kind of companion, of course. Last year I put together a little $.99 collection of classic love poems with short introductions and commentary called 14 Classic Love Poems to Read Aloud. I hope it makes for an entertaining evening – maybe even with a live Valentine’s Day companion?
News:
California weather has been big news these last few months. After years of drought, we’re finally getting rain. Everyone is celebrating, not just Californians, since the nation gets so much of its food from here. Personally, I love the stretches of downpours, and not just for altruistic reasons. When my family is at work or at school, I spend most of my days in my little writing nook, working on books or other projects (for those of you who don’t know, I’m an academic editor).
I love this solitary part of my life, and I have enough friends with similar schedules if I start to feel a little isolated. But lately, with all the stormy weather, I’ve found myself spending lots of the day in my warmest pajamas, making up excuses to stay inside.
However, today the skies cleared, so I ventured out to meet author Stacy Finz to talk books and business. (If you’ve never seen her books, check out her Nugget series.) Here’s a little taste of what came up for me:
Stockholm Diaries series:
Next up is the four-part Stockholm Diaries, Alice series. The stories take place in Stockholm, Paris and New York, and each episode is one night in their steamy path to love. The release date is March 23, and at this point there’s no preorder. However, I’d love for you to add the first two stories to your To Be Read list on Goodreads.
Two other series, looking for homes:
Today at coffee, we talked a lot about future books and future paths. At this point, in addition to my Stockholm Diaries series, I have two other finished books that could be series, and I’m trying to figure out what to do with them. One is a mystery/romance genre mix that takes place on the Bruce Peninsula of Ontario, and the other is a hot, fast-paced contemporary romance about a security firm in Sydney, Australia. Did I mention that last one is hot?
I spent a good chunk of my 2016 writing time on these two books, and I’m hoping to bring you some news soon about when you’ll see them. For now, just watch my Facebook page for “on sight” photos to get your imagination going!
What I’m Reading
As research for the new hot series in Australia, I been looking for fun, sexy contemporary romances to read. This last week I picked up an early Lauren Blakely book, Pretending He's Mine, which I really enjoyed – check out my blog to see why.
I’m also very excited about an upcoming hockey anthology called Hot on Ice: A Hockey Romance Anthology. Some author friends put this together, and a portion of the proceeds go to charity. I’m especially excited about Kim Golden’s story in the collection. She also writes about North American women and sexy Scandinavian men, and her hero went to the same hockey high school as Niklas (see Stockholm Diaries, Caroline 2).
Comments? Recommendations? Send me a note. I'd love to hear from you!
