In my humble opinion, In Skates Trouble (this review is for this novella only)is worth the cost of purchasing this box-set alone. The story between Ford and Addison didn’t really feel like a novella to me, it was well rounded the characters well developed, as well as a good set of secondary characters to flesh out the story overall.

"Leaving so soon. Mr. Eavesdropper?"

Older woman, younger man is always a trope I enjoy, and the author delivered it up perfectly, yes the difference in age was mentioned but it wasn’t the mainstay of the story, the fact that Ford’s boss was Addy’s ex-husband had more of an impact on the relationship, and due to how things proceeded between them, Ford actually came across as the older person on a few occasions.

"The exchange of phone numbers is the best way to prevent the further exchange of bodily fluids…"

Plenty of sass, snark, and one-liners from both sides, as you would expect from this author, but once again she managed to bring emotion to the story, with the ghosts of Ford’s past.

"You’re staring…"

"...You’re stunning."

Another reason to grab this anthology at its crazy cheap release price, is that this sweet and sexy tale is also the prequel for Kate’s new Chicago Rebels series, and on the strength of this novella I am all sorts of excited to read more from it.

I read three of the stories in the anthology.

Free Agent by Robin Covington (4 stars)
Jamie "DC" Washington just capped a winning season with a win of the Cup for the Cajun Rage in New Orleans. Even more remarkable was that he did it after coming out...the first openly gay player. He's using his day with the Cup to celebrate back in his hometown with the LGBT youth center he supports. On his way there, his seat mate is none other than the gorgeous Etienne Beaufort, the team's PT who Jamie has secretly adored. They finally get to explore a relationship they're both ready for. I loved Jamie for his courage, honesty and decency. Etienne was just perfect in this relationship as he hung out with Jamie for the day (and steamy night) and got this special man. Lots of complexity in this story, accomplished amazingly in such a short story.

Check My Heart by Christi Barth (4.5 stars)
Kurt Lundquist is at a crossroad now that he and his teammates have won the Cup. All of his focus was on winning that coveted prize as it was the promise he made to his 14-year old brother, Jasper, before he died. A chance encounter with Jasper's hospice nurse, Lissette Broussard awakens him for the first time in almost a year. While it may have seemed ghoulish to some, these two were absolutely perfect for each other, both giving unselfishly (though Kurt had a definite anti-hero moment). I really loved their story as they healed the wounds caused by Jasper's death around their joint planning for the celebration around Kurt's Cup day that centered on his brother's hockey team. Lissette went all in even though it meant leaving her heart exposed and Kurt's generosity just warmed my heart. Lovely story with some elegant moments. The scene at the hockey rink for a date night was just fabulous (and oh so erotic).

Deep Check by Kimberly Kincaid (4 stars)
Finnegan (Finn) Donnelly is the first player for the Cajun Rage to have his Cup day and he decides to use it to return to his hometown for the first time in seven years. He visits the grave of his best friend from high school, Asher Gibson, a firefighter who died in the line of duty before Finn could apologize for having destroyed their friendship in one foolish moment. Finn also needs to repair his relationship with January Sinclair, the third member of their group who was at the center of that conflict and is now an administrator for the fire department's Station Seventeen. What I loved about these two were their willingness to be vulnerable with each other after so much hurt and pain. They were both passionate people who were able to find their way pretty easily and enjoy their time together unabashedly. I liked how they rediscovered each other and it was fun, sexy and romantic. This was my first story by this author and it's part of the Station Seventeen series, which I'm now going to read.

Hey, lovely readers! HOT ON ICE is here, an anthology of 18 sexy hockey romances all centered around a Cup-winning team from New Orleans—and how love crashes into them the summer they tour with the Cup. Fun, right? My story is called IN SKATES TROUBLE, and it's a prequel novella to my new Chicago Rebels hockey series. Here's the blurb:

He'll give her what she needs . . .

Addison Williams isn't looking for romance, but when she encounters an eavesdropping stranger on an adjoining hotel balcony, she figures she's due a little fun. She just hadn't reckoned on the "fun" escalating so quickly to "out of control." One minute she's flirting with a whiskey-graveled voice in the dark, the next that same voice is telling her to do things . . . hot, wicked things.

Cup-winning hockey player Ford "Killer" Callaghan can't believe he let the anonymous woman who blew his mind slip away into the night. He'll track her down because once could never be enough—even if discovering her identity places her strictly out of bounds.

Stolen kisses. Secret hook-ups. Deliciously forbidden in every way. Can a passion that started in the dark find a lifetime of love in the light?

*****

Mine is just one story in this smokin' hot collection featuring bestsellers, authors you love, and a few new faces. 20% of proceeds go to Homes for Troops. The puck drops March 21, and it's only available for one month!

Loved In Skates Trouble!

The storyline was well written, the characters Ford "Killer" and Addison were likable, relatable and their chemistry was off the charts!
What a great start to the Chicago Rebels series. Kate Meader is a very talented author who knows how to write engaging & entertaining storylines with strong, relatable characters that will entertain you from start to finish.

Fun, flirty, sexy and sweet!

Famous plus-sized model, Addison Williams wants to rebuild her independent life and career after her divorce and she’s in Chicago to focus on just that. She never could have predicted that the seductive eavesdropping voice from her next door hotel neighbor would go from one sexy faceless and nameless evening to adventurous shenanigans and then some.

NHL cup-winning right winger Ford Callahan didn’t tell his brother he was arriving in Chicago a couple of days early to be alone with his demons. Turns out he wasn’t as alone as he thought. As he hears women’s laughter coming from the next door balcony, he can’t help but want to know what they were talking about. As the saucy conversation ends and the owner of the sexiest voice he’s ever heard calls him out from the darkness on his eavesdropping, their anonymous flirtation turns into a night they won’t soon forget.

Unwilling to let her slip through his fingers, Ford is determined to find her. But will he pursue her and risk his career once he finds out she’s his boss’ ex?
“Straight talk is a virtue. Dirty talk is a g*ddamn blessing.”

One of the reasons I love reading books by Kate Meader is that she always makes me smile. I was grinning like a loon by the first few pages with Ford’s snooping mischief and shameless flirtatiousness, fanning myself by chapter two and halfway in love with him by chapter four. He wanted a relationship with a meaningful connection and he knew it would be with Addy pursuing her relentlessly. Addy is equally likeable and I loved their banter, chemistry and relationship development.
“You know what’s between us is crazy, strong, and real. I want to follow that to its logical conclusion.” ~ Ford to Addy

I really didn’t want this novella to end. Meader had me completely charmed with this couple and totally on board to read the next book in her series. But with this anthology we do get so much more out of it, as there are 17 other stories by great authors, some I know some I can’t wait to read all for a great price and the added benefit of helping out as 20% of royalties from sales of Hot on Ice will go to Homes for US Troops, a charity that builds specially modified homes for injured veterans.

In Skates Trouble is novella #0.5 and the kickoff to the Chicago Rebels a standalone contemporary romance by Kate Meader. It is a short, hot and easy to read story. Told from both points of view and has a happy ending.

Reviews for 8 of the 18 novellas:

IN SKATES TROUBLE by Kate Meader:
Wow! Loved this one! Kate Meader starts off with an erotic balcony scene (I was hooked by those first two chapters) and follows it through with a lovely romantic story of an unlikely to succeed couple falling in love and finding a way to be together despite the odds. Ford is one sexy man who recognizes he has found a woman worth risking it all for and does what it takes to convince Addison she's the one for him... and that he can be the man his sassy, confident woman needs. He shows her how good they are with a whole lot of hot, passionate sex. They can't keep their hands (and other parts) off of each other. Be prepared. This one is smokin' hot! The story is engaging, the characters are well-developed and easy to love, the dialogue is spot on with wit and style. Very enjoyable from start to finish! 4.5 stars

DEEP CHECK by Kimberly Kincaid:
Awesome second chance story! Finn is the star Center for the New Orleans Rage and January is the girl he left behind back in his hometown of Remington. When it's Finn's turn to take the Cup there's only one place he wants to go and one person he needs to show he'd accomplished his goal then he's back to New Orleans. He doesn't count on the impact of seeing January again will have on him and the ties he still feels to her. January was hurt more than she cares to admit when Finn left Remington, and her, to find fame and glory in the world as a professional hockey player. Even though it's been 7 years she still feels the sting of his rejection. But now he's back looking sexier than ever, humble and apologetic, and ready to make amends. These two were fabulous together in every way. Very romantic and steamy love story. Great characters, fun dialogue, and engaging to the end. 4 stars.

RANSOM, the Player by Nana Malone
I just finished reading Ransom and I can still barely breathe. So hot! I loved it so much I. Want. To. Read. It. Again. Right now!

Ransom is a hockey legend not just for his skills on the ice, but for the rumors about the massive size of his personal "equipment". It doesn't help some reporter nicknamed him "Handsome" Ransom due to his movie star looks and it stuck. But despite the women who want to line up to join him in bed, he's not the Player he's been made out to be. Ever since his marriage failed he avoids relationships, believing they'll just leave him too. He's safer sticking with the fantasy of the girl he fell for in high school, Lexa.

Lexa is a freelance journalist who has a knack for always choosing the wrong guy. The unavailable guys. The players. After her most recent disastrous breakup she's back in her hometown to regroup. The last thing she needs is to run into her high school crush who is now basically a hockey god... and rumored to be a sex god? So out of her league, then and now. Or maybe not?

Fantastic and sexy second chance love story. Handsome and Lexa can't deny the heat between them, but love? They seem like opposites, but what a crazy attraction. All Ransom knows is that when he's with Lexa he doesn't feel that aching hole in his heart and he needs her. There are some twists in this one, great dialogue, and very likeable characters. Very well written, but Nana's stories always are. 5 stars

Note to Nana Malone:
Small favor, if Ransom goes to Audio will you please, please, please select a man with a deep, smooth, chocolatey voice (like you describe Ransom's) as the narrator? Because I would melt while he read those steamy sex scenes to me. I'm pretty sure I speak for the entire female population even if they don't know it yet. ;)

CAGED by Virginia Nelson:
Oliver Tremblay is the right winger for the Ragin Cajuns and it's his day with the Cup. As many of his teammates do, he takes it back to his hometown. While there he takes it to his parent’s grave marker to honor them. The parents who perished with so many others on 9.11. He shut out so many things after that fateful day, including the girl who's had his heart from the moment they met as just kids even though he left her behind. But now that he's back in town he's finally ready to move forward and he's not about to do it without his girl. Without his Maisie. Maisie has always loved Ollie. She knows that when she sees him she just needs to remind him how good they've always been together and how much he needs her. Then they'll both be alright. Caged is a great tribute to the victims of 9.11 and their families. A bit darker in tone, but Ollie still gets his girl! 3.5 stars

PENALTY BOX BLUES by Robin Kaye:
Great story about Stryker, the Rage’s Enforcer, and one of the toughest players on the ice. During his hometown visit with the Cup to Boise, Idaho he is reunited with his college tutor. Trish is the smartest woman he knows, and he remembers her as a buttoned-up librarian type you didn't give him the time of day outside of their tutoring sessions. Who knew he had a thing for prim and proper princesses? Trish has had a crush on Stryker since College, but that was years ago. She just hopes she can get through his week in Boise without making a fool of herself over him. These two are perfect for each other and thankfully their friend Karma has no qualms about bringing them back together. 4 stars

BREAKAWAY BROOKE by Angi Morgan:
When Deacon "Tripp" Sanders takes the Cup back to his hometown for the parades and celebrations he should be watching out for more than overzealous fans after death threats are made. But Deacon only has eyes for the raven-haired beauty he sees at the parade and can't think of anything but getting to know her better. Deacon and Brooke Henderson are so drawn to each other, is it something more than great chemistry? Great suspense story with a little twist. 3.5 stars

UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN by Kim Golden:
Swedish player for the New Orleans Rage, Jonas Magnussen is taken out of Game Six on a stretcher after a hard blow that may end his ten year career. He suffered a severe concussion and missed the last game, but he's not missing his chance to take the Cup back to his homeland. He's hoping for the chance to see the woman he left behind, Mariam. Fate is on his side, one of the press stops the Rage’s promo team set in place gives him the opportunity to see if she might just still love him too. Sweet story. Cute ending. 3.5 stars

BLADE by Avery Flynn
Flynn Kazakov, the goalie for the New Orleans Rage has his turn with "The Cup" in his home town after winning the championship game. Flynn finds himself wondering what to expect from life next since he's met his lifelong goal and then Gillie Pike shows up. The only woman he's ever loved even if he did have to walk away from her. Gillie's life has not been the same since Flynn left her, not that she blames him, but she's given up her bad girl ways to run a Jazz club in Texas. But old trouble shows up with a threat to Flynn and she has to warn him even if he breaks her heart all over again. Great pace to this story with just enough action, witty banter, sexy times and humor to keep me interested from the start to the end. 4 stars

Free Agent by Robin Covington

Free Agent was a short, sweet and dirty read. I loved that it was told from dual points of view so you got a sense of both characters and how they felt about each other. I really enjoyed taking this short but memorable journey with these two characters.

Friends - I love male/male romance, so when Avery Flynn asked me to join the project, I immediately started plotting this book, FREE AGENT. DC Washington is a defenseman for the Rage and is fearless on the ice but hasn’t always been so brave when he took off his skates. But, just prior to the beginning of this season, he took a bold step out of the closet and became the first openly gay player in the league. It was a year of ups and downs and he was lucky to have the support of most of his teammates and fans and winning the Cup with those guys was a penultimate moment. He never thought it could get any better.

Now he has the chance to go back to his hometown and play and work with the LGBTQ kids at the youth center where he first learned to play hockey. The only problem is Etienne: one of the medical staff for the Rage, and the man DC has wanted for far too long. The chance to see if their sparks have what it takes to burn is right there . . . just as he’s about to move one-thousand miles away. Bad timing . . .

I’m so excited to offer this book as part of the HOT ON ICE anthology – 18 sexy stories about scoring off the ice. Twenty percent of the revenue from the sale of this set will go to support HOMES FOR OUR TROOPS – an organization which provides mortgage free homes to wounded veterans and their families.
A great read. A great cause. An unbeatable combination.

When the New Orleans Cajun Rage hockey team wins the Stanley Cup Finals, it’s a cause worthy of celebration. A new team in the NHL, they’ve worked hard to get to this point and all the players are excited to show off the cup in their hometowns. They each get 24 hours with the cup (and its handler Edwin). Who knew that for so many of them, it would also be a chance to rekindle old flames and start new relationships! The Hot on Ice Anthology is a collection of stories written by 18 different authors, all with steamy heat level and showcasing different players from the Cajun Rage as they take the cup home and ponder their futures with the team. Some of the stories are linked to series written by their respective authors. All the ones I’ve had a chance to read have been very enjoyable, and this is a review for a few of my favorites.

In Skates Trouble by Kate Meader (Chicago Rebels series)

When Ford ‘Killer’ Callaghan overhears the ladies on the balcony next door at his hotel complaining about men and their oral skills, he doesn’t expect to be caught in the act of eavesdropping. In the dark of night, he and his balcony partner find a little mutual self-satisfaction, a harmless flirtation as they don’t set eyes or hands on each other. But Ford does a little detective work and figures out how to meet the woman who so intrigued him, and it turns out that she’s Addison Williams, a famous model and the ex-wife of the owner of the hockey team he plays for, the Cajun Rage. Meeting each other in person sparks the fires already lit from their steamy nighttime encounter. But it could spell disaster for Ford’s career if he’s caught fooling around with his owner’s ex.

This story starts out steamy and doesn’t let up! Ford and Addy are both very likable characters and have crystal clear chemistry. She’s a plus-sized model and he’s a star right winger, so they have careers and lives of their own, and a fling while he’s in Chicago where Addy has relocated, is something they can’t resist. Ford’s there to show the Stanley Cup to his brother and his junior hockey club where he first played. Some of the story revolves around the complicated relationship he has with his family, the earlier death of his brother never forgotten. The story has some emotional moments in the mix of a sexy romance, and there are some ups and downs for this couple as they find their way to a very satisfying happy ending. I’m looking forward to reading more of the Chicago Rebels series!

Deep Check by Kimberly Kincaid ( Station Seventeen series)

Finnegan Donnelly regrets the way he left his hometown of Remington. A falling out with his two best friends, January and Asher was never how he wanted things to end, especially when Asher, a firefighter, died suddenly a few years later. It’s been seven years since he left, and he’s back with the Stanley Cup with the sole purpose of bringing it to Asher’s graveside. And he owes January an apology too. Can they recapture the friendship they had, and perhaps even more?

This is a great second chance story. January had a crush on Finnegan back in high school but her one attempt to show him her affection turned into a disaster for the three friends that led to their estrangement. Having him show up unexpectedly with a sincere apology doesn’t negate what happened, but goes a long way towards mending fences. The two of them share an attraction that hasn’t disappeared over time and it leads to some steamy scenes between them. While in town Finn gets to know the guys from the firehouse and is happy to help January with a fundraiser she’s working on for the local fire departments, even as he waits for news of where he’ll end up next year. I liked how Finn and January were able to clear the air from the past and we get a sweet ending for this couple.

Free Agent by Robin Covington

Hockey player Jamie Washington and Cajun Rage team physiotherapist Etienne Beaufort end up on the same flight together to Washington where Jamie is bringing the Stanley Cup to an LGBTQ youth center he supports. Having come out as gay during the past year, Jamie has weathered plenty of positive and (sadly) negative press and he’s looking forward to showing off the cup to his friends and having a little down time while he works out his next career move. Though Jamie’s been interested in Etienne for a while, their respective positions with the team kept them apart during the season. But all bets are off now that they’re on vacation. Can a fling that’s been waiting in the wings turn into a permanent contract?

This is the only male/male romance in the anthology and I really enjoyed it! Jamie’s coming out in public relates directly to the example he wants to set for the kids at the youth center and while it’s been a long time coming, he doesn’t regret it. When he and Etienne get a chance to date while in Washington, they share some fun times, with visits to some tourist spots and a gay nightclub. Etienne’s friend Ryker with whom he’s staying, and Jamie’s friend Carla (who will have her own story THIRD, coming in April) happen to know each other too (small world and all that) and add some great friendship scenes to the story. The sex scenes are super hot (whew!). There’s a sweet ending for this brand new couple and it’s definitely worth the read. (I hope to see more m/m romances from this author in the future!).

Ransom by Nana Malone (The Player series)

Ransom Cox hasn’t been having any luck with women lately, the tell-all book by his ex-wife making him suspicious (rightly so) of the puck bunnies chasing after him. In his private moments. he imagines the girl he lusted after in high school, Lexa Carlisle. Little does he know she shared the same kind of attraction to him but was too shy to say so. Back in his home town of Hope to show off the cup, a chance storm has him coming to Lexa’s rescue, and this couple finally has the opportunity to explore the feelings from high school that never went away.

This is a really sweet and very sexy story. Ransom is happy to bring the cup home and share his success with his mother, and it’s icing on the cake to be able to hook up with Lexa too. But more than sex, this couple finds lots of things to talk about and enjoy together (including a marathon session of Game of Thrones). Lexa is a strong and independent woman, a journalist who has had a tough time of it lately but isn’t giving up. I really liked her character, and she makes a good match for Ransom. This story is less about hockey and more about the relationship between these two and we get a happy for now ending that suits the story.

Full Contact by Andie J. Christopher

Injured hockey player Anders Sorenson takes his turn with the cup in a small resort on the Minnesota shores of Lake Michigan. He’s contemplating his future but an altercation at a bar heads him off in a brand new direction – with bartender Dahlia Clarno. There’s just one problem. Anders is a virgin, and his teammates have put a bounty out on his virginity. It’s not a secret, and Anders has vowed that he won’t sleep with anyone until his teammates lift the stupid thing once and for all. But the attraction between him and Dahlia is too strong to ignore, and when she offers to help him lose his virginity for free, he can’t resist. But is a quick summer fling all that lies between them?

There’s lots to like in this story of second chances. The difference is sexual experiences of Anders and Dahlia is striking. While Anders is technically a virgin he has had plenty of good sexual encounters. Dahlia on the other hand, has not. A drunken encounter when she was younger led to her being sexually assaulted, and her reputation in town is that she’s an easy lay. She doesn’t trust easily, but things with Anders are different. They share some steamy scenes together, and when Anders figures out what his next step is going to be, he wants to share it with Dahlia. They have the requisite conflict that is quickly resolved, and a sweet happy for now ending.

Reader-friends! I'm so excited to be bringing you just one of the eighteen sizzling stories in the HOT ON ICE anthology. My hero, Finn Donnelly, takes the Cup back to his hometown to tie up loose ends...but when he sees his high school *not*-so-sweetheart, all bets for playing it cool are off!

My story is part of my Station Seventeen series, but it stands alone, and I think you'll love how it ties in with many of the other books in this anthology. So grab a cold drink and get ready for some smokin' hot reading!

FREE AGENT by Robin Covington:
I dont really like to read m\m but Robin wrote it and since I love her books I decided to read it, and it wasn't half bad. I liked DC he just needed a little bit more self confidence when it came to him and his relationships. Very good story.
BODY CHECK by Desiree Holt:
I liked that Matt was persistent, he was also sexy, “one of us has too many clothes on, and neither of us should have any on.” I liked this story of a second chance romance.
DEEP CHECK by Kimberly Kincaid:
Finn can be honest, "...so I lied about mine. But I’ve wanted you since the minute I laid eyes on you, so please. Either kiss me or I’m kissing you. I’m happy to do the honors.” I liked this book.
RANSOM by Nana Malone:
I fell in love with Lexa, she was sassy and knew how to give Ransom a run for his money, "if I can learn hockey, you can learn Game of Thrones. Besides, you’re lucky. I'm here to give you a full commentary." I liked that Ransom was sometimes thoughtful about what he was going to say, "...how the heck could he explain this? He could hardly say, "Hey, women have been scared off by my ***k, and I'd rather you not run away screaming. So can we take this a little slower until you're begging beneath me?" I seriously loved Ransom, I enjoyed this book.
CAGED by Virginia Nelson:
Maisie sometimes just has to be ballsy and go after Ollie, “you only say that because you know what I want is you,” she said. And then she kissed him." I loved Ollie, Maisie was so sweet and I just loved her as well.
BREAKAWAY BROOKE by Angi Morgan:
I liked that Brooke was a strong woman, and I loved Tripp. Both characters were quite stubborn and that lead to some chemistry on the pages.
THE WARM UP by Xio Axelrod:
I was in love with Zim hardcore that man just melted me, he had the biggest heart. I loved it when he was playful, “already? I need a few minutes.” That earned him a playful slap on his belly. " I loved this story so much.
CHECK MY HEART by Christi Barth:
I liked Kurt, “well, I had an ulterior motive. You asked to see something sexy.” He held his hands out down at his sides. “So did I succeed? In making your panties wet?” Sometimes Kurt could be selfless and I really liked that.
FULL CONTACT by Andie J. Christopher:
Anders knows that he sometimes just has to relinquish control over to his woman, "...he winked at her as if he weren’t painfully hard. “Then, by all means, have your way with me, woman.” I found Anders to be a very sexy man, I loved him.
BLADE by Avery Flynn:
Flynn is quite honest about his faults, "I'll warn you now," he said. "I'm an asshole. I'm a little bit crazy. I'm stubborn. I steal the covers. Most of the time I forget to put the toilet seat down..." I lived this book, I loved that Gillie could sometimes outsmart Flynn.
UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN by Kim Golden:
I thought this story was really sweet, Jonas was just head over heels for Mariam. These two were just so sweet.
COURAGE by Lena Hart:
I loved that Mason was real protective of his woman, "...when the man didn’t move fast enough, Mason slammed their drinks down on the small table and took a step forward." Jules could be such an understanding woman, “yes, of course. This is for one of your players, and it’s for a good cause. I’m sure we can find a really nice hotel to stay in that weekend.” Mason smiled with relief." Mason was such an alpha I loved him.
PENALTY BOX BLUES by Robin Kaye:
Stryker is a considerate guy, “you need to let go of my shirt, unless you want to stay right where you are, which would be fine with me. It may make eating our pizza a little difficult, but I’m sure we can work around it.” The man cpuld be chivalrous, “***n you are off the charts hot when you’re in full temper. All I could think of was getting your fine *** out of there and having my way with you. Too bad you were drunk.” I really liked this book, loved Stryker.
BEAR NAKED by Katie Kenyhercz:
Bear sure knows how to make his woman feel powerful, “Ari, please. I’m not gonna last very long. I feel like a virgin again. And you … you make me crazy.” Ari did not give in easily she made Bear work for it, and I really liked that.
BLOCKED by Heather Long:
I liked Archer, I really liked some of the activities he chose for him and his girl, “I’m stripping then I’m getting in that water. I’ll wade out there ‘til I’m waist deep and you’re gonna come join me working to do the lift.” I liked this book, Archer was sexy and sweet.
IN SKATES TROUBLE by Kate Meader:
In order to prove his point at times, Ford needs to get physical, "anger flared. He grasped her hips and pulled her close until she was right against his “strategy.”“Does that feel like I care about my career?” What a great start to a new series, This novella introduced us to some , who I can't wait to read their stories.
MAKING HIS MOVE by Susan Scott Shelley:
I liked Rod the man was a romantic, "if it hadn't then, I would've waited for you. There is no one else, Arielle. No one who's made me feel the way you do." I enjoyed this story, Rod wqs real sweet.
CHECKING YES by Misty D. Waters:
I loved Savannah, girl didn't mess around, she gave it to Cooper straight, “so. You were telling me about how much of a huge ***k you were for leaving. How you kept a huge family secret from me. And how it only took you three effing years to get up the nerve to explain.” I liked this book.

Hot hockey players? Yes please! 18 hot hockey players - Oh hell yeah!! These are the stories of the players of the Cajun Rage as they each have their day with the cup! I've only had a chance to read a few of these stories so far but they have made the purchase price for this series well worth it and I expect the rest to be just as amazing. Each story I've read is a 5 star read! Put this one on the must read list. I highly recommend it.

Deep Check by Kimberly Kincaid - After winning "The Cup" with the Rage, Finn Donnelly returns to Remington, NC to face the demons of his past. Surprisingly, clearing up the past helps him find the path for his future.

In Skates Trouble by Kate Meader - With his day with The Cup Ford Callaghan returns to Chicago to share the win with his family. Never did he expect to meet the woman of his dreams. One little problem. She's the ex of the Rage's team owner. Career ending?? (Bonus: This is the beginning of a new series!!)

Courage by Lena Hart - Mason Courage has just been named as the new head coach for the champion Cajun Rage hockey team. This should be a happy time but when his wife picks now to announce that she wants a divorce his whole world comes crashing down around him. Will he be able to save the most important thing in his life?

Checking Yes by Misty Waters - On his day with the cup Cooper Banks just wants to show his Pops that he kept his promise to him. Hopefully though, returning to Dove Harbor, GA will not only let him do this but also repair his strained relationship with his brother as well as give him the second chance he desperately wants with the woman who owns his heart - Savannah Jane.

Ransom by Nana Malone - Ransom Cox is excited to go home and give his mom the best birthday gift ever - a day with the cup! Proving that all her hard work and sacrifices have finally paid off. Seeing Lexa Carlisle, the woman of all his fantasies, again is the last thing he expected and the one thing that may blow his whole world apart.

I downloaded this anthology because I am a HUGE Kate Meader fan. I have literally read everything she has produced. That said, I know sod all about ice hockey.

This did not matter in the slightest when reading her fabulous - and fabulously hot - novella In Skates Trouble in this anthology. It kicks off with a delicious scene in which young pro hockey stud Ford Callaghan is on the balcony of his Chicago hotel eavesdropping on a conversation between some women on the balcony next door talking about oral sex - and the sad lack of men who are experts in that department.. Or even competent. He can't see these ladies but one voice in particular speaks direct to his libido and makes him want to prove to her not all men suck at giving head (pun fully intended!). When the other ladies leave, the temperature ramps up several notches as Ford and Addy have a mutually enjoyable ... Heck you'll have to buy this book to find out what happens next, but the temperature never lets up after that. The quips come thick and fast and the emotional truth isn't far behind as lingerie legend Addy kicks the lingering issues from her crappy marriage to the curb, while Ford deals with his family issues after a devastating tragedy ten years before. And they both learn to deal with each other and their scorching sexual chemistry (just about!). Ford was absolutely glorious as a hero, big, sexy, alpha but also wonderfully evolved and not intimidated by the fact that Addy is a lot of woman for any man to handle.

You will not want to miss this novella. I actually now have a brand new addiction to ice hockey, so I'm going to dive into the rest of the stories.... Which may help me survive the wait for Irresistible You, the first in Meader's new Chicago Rebels series which features ... Yup. you've guessed it, more hot ice hockey players. YUM!

I only read BLADE by Avery Flynn.

3.5 Stars

Blade is a quick read about second chance romance between a hockey goalie, Flynn and retired theft turned jazz club owner, Gillie. Three years ago he broke her heart when he felt her after finding out about her thieving ways. Gillie's club is in danger of closing down and she gets a call from an old friend from her cat burgling days to see if she wants to take one last job. She was quick to say no until she found out it was included a frame job on Flynn. One things leads to another and she finds herself face to face with the goalie that still owns her heart, but she doesn't know that she still owns his. Avery Flynn writes a fun and sexy adventure on and off the ice for this couple.

Blade is part of the anthology so I thought that's why I was missing some background on a few of the secondary characters then I see the note at the end of the story that the other characters are part of Avery's B-Squad series. I really want to check that series out after reading this short story.

Deep Check by Kimberly Kincaid - Finn is a man on the move. From a young age, he was always on the run. Running from the pain of abandonment and neglect. Running from feelings too hard to express. Leaving behind tattered friendships and broken hearts along the way. When a crowning moment brings him to the place and people he left behind, can his Calendar girl become his saving grace? Out of triumph comes tragedy. Deep Check has it all. Realism, heartbreak and reunions. January and Finn take personal tragedy and turn it into a winning hand. Along with a bit of help but an often mentioned but never seen guardian angel. Deep Check is a story of soul searching that broke our hearts, but healed the soul. (4.5 stars)

In Skates Trouble by Kate Meader - She's playing hard to get. Is he up for the challenge? Kate Meader is a no holds barred romantic. In Skates Trouble proves it. Her cat and mouse formula of bad boy seeking mystery woman was well played. Ford and Addison are wicked sexy and eerily romantic. She keeps him on his toes, while easily stealing his heart. The thrill of the chase is worth the wait. (5 stars)

Free Agent by Robin Covington - Follow your heart. Live out your dreams and live life to the fullest. Three of life's riskiest endeavors. The beauty of Free Agent is that Robin Covington tried something different. DC proved being different does not have to be a liability but a stepping stone to a better life and a happier you. I'm all for the power of that extraordinary message. (4 stars)

Check My Heart by Christi Barth - Can a heartbreaking tragedy, lead to the love of a lifetime? Check My Heart is a beautifully written story of hope and compassion. Ms. Barth knows how to touch the heart. (4 stars)

Blade by Avery Flynn - Ms. Flynn likes to stir the pot, while burning up the sheets. Meaning? Unconventional characters in seductive scenarios equal plenty of surprising moments. What drew me to Blade was Gillie. A reformed bad girl with a ton of grit and an abundance of heart willing to risk it all to help out a friend and redeem herself. Sassy, sexy and entertaining. (4 stars)

Ransom by Nana Malone - Ransom is used to the heartbreak of rejection, but can he handle the thrill of falling in love? It takes more courage to trust than to give up without a fight. Nana Malone is good at spicing it up while working her magic on a readers heart. (5 stars)

Just finished In Skates Trouble - Kate Meader's contribution to this Hot on Ice anthology and seriously...is there any ice left on the globe??! This is HOT!
I don't know how she does it (well yes I do, she's insanely talented the Irish minx) but she packed a roller-coaster of emotions and twists and turns into Addy and Ford's story. Loved Addy - a confident independent woman in love with her curves and life. And Ford, the younger Hero who is mature and evolved enough to handle her.
And the sex scenes are raunchtastic.
Can't recommend highly enough. And can't wait to read the first book in the series :)

Hot on Ice: A Hockey Romance Anthology I am a hockey romance addict, so when I saw this anthology I had to have it.  I have read a lot of anthologies, what I liked the most about this one is that it had a common theme.  Each novella was about a different NHL player on the recent Stanley Cup Championship team the New Orleans Cajun Rage.  The stories were about the individual player’s day with the Cup and a legend about them finding their true love on their day.  I love how all the books were clearly coordinated. Players were mentioned in each other’s books, and Edwin Motz, the Keeper of the Cup, made an appearance in the stories.  Even though each tale had a common theme, every story was amazingly different, enjoyable, and exciting.  I like that some of the authors tied their books to existing series.  I love that 20% of the royalties earned goes to the Homes For Our Troops charity, a nonprofit organization that builds mortgage-free, specially modified homes for severely injured veterans.

HOT ON ICE consists of eighteen stories:

DEEP CHECK (Station Seventeen #1.5) by Kimberly Kincaid.  After a fight, hockey Center, Finnegan Donnelly couldn’t leave his hometown of Remington and his two best friends behind fast enough. Seven years later, he finds himself taking the Cup home to visit his ex-best friend Asher’s grave.  While there he is reunited with January Sinclair, the other person, he left behind.  DEEP CHECK is a sweet second chance hockey/firefighter romance.

BEAR NAKED by Katie Kenyhercz.  After nine years, NHL Defensman, Bear Thompson, returns home to Bear Mountain Reserve in Canada.  He wants to get permission to allow a television crew and outsiders onto the reserve for his day with the Cup in hopes of giving his people some good publicity.  However, he needs to convince the Chief/his ex-girlfriend, Aria Paul, that it is in the Mi’Kmaq’s best interest.  BEAR NAKED is a charming second chance romance. I loved the cultural aspects of this story.

BODY CHECK by Desiree Holt.  NHL Defenseman, Matt Vorchak, is coping with a career-ending injury.  He returns home to San Antonio for his day with the Cup, to do some apologizing, and soul searching.  He seeks out Lizzie St. John, the girl he walked away from.  BODY CHECK is a thought-provoking second chance romance.

BREAKAWAY BROOKE by Angi Morgan.  Left winger, Deacon “Tripp” Sanders heads to McKinney, TX for his day with the Cup.  Coming from a prestigious family, his life has been threatened.  Unbeknownst to him, his family hires bodyguard, Brooke Henderson, to keep an eye on him. BREAKAWAY BROOKE has a bit of a supernatural feel.  It is full of action and twists.

UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN by Kim Golden.  NHL Center, Jonas Magnusson, is recovering from a concussion.  He goes home to Stockholm for his day with the Cup; while there he is reunited Mariam Kidane.

IN SKATES TROUBLE (Chicago Rebels, #0.5) by Kate Meader.  NHL right winger star, Ford Callaghan, takes the Cup home to Chicago; while there he meets the woman of his dreams, Addison Williams.  Unfortunately, she is also the ex-wife of his team’s owner.  I adored this story.  I will definitely be following the new Chicago Rebels series.

CHECKING YES by Misty D. Waters.  Left winger, Cooper Banks, left Dove Harbor, Georgia, after discovering a secret, leaving behind Savannah Jane Scott, the love of his life.  Three years later, he returns home for his day with the Cup.  CHECKING YES is a delightful second chance romance with many exciting twists.

PENALTY BOX BLUES (a Wild Thing novella) by Robin Kaye.  Defenseman, Stryker Gyllenhal, pays off a debt to a friend by taking the Cup back home to Boise, Idaho; while there he is assigned a handler, his ex-tutor and childhood friend, Trish Reynolds.  However, he doesn’t recognize her now that she is no longer hiding behind frumpy clothes. PENALTY BOX BLUES is a heartfelt read with a lot of insight and thought-provoking content.  This was an adorable story that made me want to check out the Wild Thing Series.

FREE AGENT by Robin Covington.  Jamie “DC” Washington has had an eventful year; he just won the Stanley Cup; he is a free agent, and he announced at a press conference that he was gay.  While heading to Washington DC, for his day with the Cup, he bumps into his PT Etienne, whom he has been lusting after.

BLADE (B-Squad #2.5) by Avery Flynn.  Goaltender, Flynn Kazakov spends his day with the Cup in Snow Bay, The Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Thief, Gillie Pike, tries to warn him that someone is attempting to frame him.  BLADE is full of action and twists.

MAKING HIS MOVE by Susan Scott Shelley.  Backup Goalie, Rod Fraser heads to New York.  He bumps into his sister Kelsey’s best friend, Arielle Charton, who he has had a crush on.  He tries to convince her to go on a date with him.

CHECK MY HEART by Christi Barth.  Center, Kurt Lundquist, dying little brother Jasper, request that he win the Cup.  Ten months later, he won the Cup but Jasper wasn’t around to see it.  Kurt runs into Jasper’ nurse Lissette, whom his is attracted to but feels is off limits.

BLOCKED by Heather Long.  Bad-boy right winger, Archer Durham needs to clean up his reputation.  He becomes involved with pop star Hoshi Sato.

FULL CONTACT by Andie J. Christopher.  Left winger, Anders Sorenson goes to Thunderbay Cove in Northern Minnesota.  His teammates put a $150,000 bounty on his virginity.

COURAGE by Lena Hart.  Coach Mason “The Rage” Courage fights to keep his marriage.

RANSOM by Nana Malone.  Right Wing, Ransom Cox is stranded in a cabin in Hope, NY, with his high school crush, Lexa Carlisle. RANSOM is a fun romance.

CAGED by Virginia Nelson.  Right Winger, Oliver “Ollie” Tremblay felt obligated to spend his day with the Cup in his hometown.  Having bad memories, he left the town as soon as he could.  He is reunited with his childhood crush, Maisie Miller.  I like how the story flashed back and forth between the past and present.

THE WARM UP by Xio Axelrod.  Defenseman, Constantine Zimin just won the Cup, but it is bittersweet because he has no one to celebrate it with.  His twin sister died ten years ago; his parents couldn’t make it, and his best friend / teammate Jonas was in the hospital with a concussion.  He heads home to Philly where he meets nurse, Sujarta Meriwether.

HOT ON ICE is an amazing read.  Fourteen of the authors were new to me.  The authors I was familiar with were: Katie Kenyhercz, Susan Scott Shelley, Desiree Holt, and Heather Long.  I highly recommend this anthology to anyone that enjoys sports romances.  I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

This review is based on the ARC provided by the author and/or the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I can finally check this off my TBR pile! Been on it since 2017 and thanks to a challenge I was forced to read it. With 18 novellas there were a lot of different tropes and also a nice taste of each series.

I am very familiar with this author and have read many of her stories. I was given a ARC for a honest review.

COURAGE by Lena Hart is an excellent read. It was straight to the heart of the issues no messing around. I liked that the story dealt with a married couple whose relationship had gotten into trouble and explored how they overcame them. I also loved the whole therapy sessions scenes. A lot of couples could use this. I wish more stories would deal with relationship issues and not just girl meets boy and ex tries to derail the relationship. I love stories that use real issues to create a romantic story. This was a fast paced story, pulling no punches. I loved that they had to talk to each other and say all the hurtful stuff to get to the core of what was wrong with their relationship.

I would definitely recommend this story. This is the only story I have read so far from this box set so far.

I am truly a buffet lover. I love being confronted with different tastes, different choices that I can nibble on should the whim catch me. A good buffet is always a great place to try a taste of something new - if you like it, you get more. If you don’t like it, you move on. Why am I talking buffet here? Because I find anthologies that contain novellas of varying lengths, written by authors I love, like or yet to discover, just like a buffet! Sometimes I discover new-to-me authors that become favorites or see a different side of an author I read all the time. “Hot on Ice” is a gourmet buffet of well-written, engaging stories that center around the New Orleans Rage hockey team that just won the Stanley Cup despite being the underdog. Each story, written by a different author, focuses on one of the players of the team (and one the coach), giving that player a background, a voice and a future! A totally fun read!

Hot and sexy hockey players . . . YES PLEASE! Helping out the troops! HELL YES!
I was so excited to read these 18 stories from both new to me authors and authors I love. Diving in was a great way to spend a lazy weekend. The anthology had something for everyone and not one of the stories let me down.

The top standout for me personally was IN SKATES TROUBLE by Kate Meader. The story was hot and captivating and I always love the way Kate writes. She brings you in and makes it impossible not to get lost in the book. A new to me author that I found in this anthology and now cannot wait to read more by them is Robin Kaye. I really enjoyed her story and look forward to checking out her other books.

For 99pennies this is a set you really don't want to miss out on. I guarantee you won't be let down.

This book was quite the heavenly literary find for me, 18 glorious stories about sexy hockey players finding their happily ever afters, I have to say it totally spoke to me on so many levels... first being about my favorite sport, hockey, then it's eighteen individual stories to devour by some of my favorite authors, and finally the opportunity to help out a good cause! Each story is packed with heartwarming content, toe curling romance, and an alpha that is sure to score a special spot in your heart, I should know I now have 18 new book boyfriends!!

FREE AGENT, USA Today Best Seller Robin Covington – This was my first M/M story, and I have to admit I was a little nervous to get started, but in typical Robin Covington fashion she put me right at ease with her impeccable writing and touching story line and made it quite an enjoyable adventure, I loved meeting DC and was happy to see him find his well deserved happily ever after!

BODY CHECK, USA Today Bestseller Desiree Holt - While Matt was busy getting his big break in the hockey world, he neglected his family and Lizzie the woman he loved, and so they began to move on without him. Then he suffers a sidelining injury, and expects to find his family and Lizzie to be there and help him pick-up the pieces, but he's in for a rude awakening... the world he thought would be waiting for him moved on!

Deep Check by Kimberly Kincaid

January Sinclair and Finnegan 'Finn' Donnelly were once best friends until the death of their other friend tore them apart. Now years later, Finnegan has achieved the ultimate goal of winning the cup with his ice hockey team and is returning home for a little while during the off-season. Can he repair his friendship with January, so they can have the happy ever after they both deserve?

This is one of eighteen stories in the Hot on Ice Hockey Anthology, each encompassing a hero from The New Orleans Cajun Rage, the team that have won the Cup this season and I've got to say as usual Ms. Kincaid delivered a wonderful read that took me hardly any time to finish. The way this story begins with the prologue had me wondering whether Finn would be able to make things right with January, especially after their conversation when they first come face-to-face in this story. He let her down badly when he left town without so much as a backward glance and causing January to suffer double the lose with both he and Asher, their other friend gone.

As for the dialogue, it was well-written and I loved every moment the hero and heroine conversed, especially whenever Finn called January by the nickname he has for her. It's cute and suits her, considering her name is a month. However, in saying that, there are moments where I felt sorry for the hero and heroine. Finn thought he was doing the right thing by trying to honor his friend's memory by following his hockey dreams, but it lost him the only other friend that ever mattered to him. Will January be able forgive him? Will the pair find a way to be together when he lives in New Orleans and she lives in Remington? Especially considering they have such intense chemistry and strong feelings for each other, which eventually spills over onto the pages in sizzling hot sex scenes that illustrate how right these two are for each other and that they shouldn't let anything stand in the way of being together.

Both the main characters as well as the secondary ones drew me in to this story with their dialogue and the way January's friends support and help her. The firefighters and those that work in the firehouse are a family, and would do anything for each other, which is proven by what they do to help January and Finn. No one wants to see the heroine get hurt and I liked how the secondary characters aren't afraid to give the hero advice in making sure that doesn't happen.

January is strong, brave, smart and I liked how passionate she was about her job and making sure the firefighters she works alongside are as safe as can be on the job. Certainly, she goes above and beyond in making the fundraiser she organizing a success, and she's lucky to have so much help from Finn and people he knows. While Finn, he's successful and done well for himself by achieving everything he set out to achieve. Being in Remington holds bad memories, yet it also holds some good ones. Getting close with January again and finally being able to explore their feelings without anyone getting hurt is a good thing, but when he's trying so hard to remain a part of the New Orleans Cajun Rage, I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. Because he was torn between going back to New Orleans to continue playing the game he loves for the team he wants to or choosing to stay in Remington to be with January. The question is -- Which one will he choose and will it be the right decision for him and January?

Overall, Ms. Kincaid has penned a delightful read in this novella, encompassing well-written dialogue, a fantastic array of secondary characters and a couple that definitely deserve happy ever after. The way this story ended was perfect, as January has wonderful friends that want her to be happy and aren't afraid to interfere to make sure Finn doesn't make the mistake of letting January go a second time. I would recommend Deep Check by Kimberly Kincaid, if you enjoy the friends to lovers trope or have read Skin Deep by Ms. Kincaid, because this novella features several Station Seventeen characters.

I totally loved the three stories I’ve read, so far, in the Hot on Ice anthology collection. The New Orleans Rage has won the Stanley Cup and each story follows one of the members from this team and their day with Cup.

Free Agent Times by Robin Covington is Jamie “DC” Washington’s day with the Stanley Cup. Jamie came out of the closet earlier in the season. Now he is a free agent, trying to get picked up by the Washington DC team so he can go home. When he’s in DC, Jamie spends time with the LBGTQ kids, which is where he goes with the Stanley Cup. Etienne, the Rage’s Physical Therapist, travels to DC to visit a friend on the same plane as Jamie. The attraction and chemistry between these two men is amazing. The heat just sizzles when they are near one another. Ms. Covington wrote an amazing story exploring the gay world in DC. Since Jamie is moving back to Washington DC can he and Etienne manage a long distance relationship?

Blade by Avery Flynn is Flynn Kazakov’s story and his a day with the Stanley Cup. Flynn plans to celebrate with his hometown of Snow Bay, Michigan. Gillie Pike loved Flynn when he lived in Dallas but ruined any future they had when he gave her an alibi to save her from being arrested. Gillian was a burglar, stealing for an organization, earning money to pay for college. After three years of being clean she’s approached to steal the Cup while in Flynn’s possession and hiding it in his home. She agrees but only so she can warn Flynn as payback for saving her. Arriving in Flynn’s hometown, he is more than a little wary of Gillie and her story. However, the attraction and chemistry between these two is amazing. The heat just sizzles when they are near one another. Ms. Flynn wrote an amazing story allowing these two to have a second chance and introduce the readers to her B-Squad series.

Deep Check by Kimberly Kincaid is Finn Donnelly’s story and his day with the Stanley Cup. Finn plans to take the cup to the grave of his best friend from high school, Asher, back in his hometown of Remington, North Carolina. He wants to keep it low key, away from the media. January Sinclair was best friends with Finn and Asher in high school, all the while having a crush on Finn. Finn left town shortly after graduation to play in the hockey minor league, leaving behind his two friends. January now works at Station Seventeen, keeping the place organized and running smoothly. Yet, when these two meet up again, the attraction and chemistry between these two is still there. The heat just sizzles when they are near one another. Ms. Kincaid wrote an amazing story allowing these two to have a second chance and introduce readers to her Station Seventeen series.

These were wonderful, sexy, and entertaining stories with very likeable and authentic characters. The characters were well written with complex characteristics. The sex scenes were amazing. The story line was riveting and kept my attention to the very end. I enjoyed reading each of these stories and had trouble stopping. I highly recommend this book to other readers.

4.5 Stars!
This anthology is a collection of new short stories by 18 amazing authors for a worthy cause! I have read only a couple stories so far and have been blown away with how wonderfully satisfying they have been. The stories were intriguing and engaging, I cared for the characters, and the sex scenes were hot, sexy and titillating! I started with Free Agent by Robin Covington. I fell in Love with DC & Etienne while they explored their attraction for each other and faced the struggles of living in different cities. They were both strong, loving and thoughtful characters and it was beautiful how they opened up to each other. Their story was so honest and heartwarming and very hot and sexy!
The second book was Blade by Avery Flynn. This second chance romance is part of the B-Squad world. Former thief turned Jazz club owner, Gillie Pike, and bad boy goalie, Flynn Kazakov, separated on bad terms years ago, breaking both their hearts. Now Gillie has been offered a job to frame Flynn with the theft of the Cup. When Gillie shows up out of the blue to tell Flynn she is there to help him, he finds it hard to believe. But he can't deny that he is still in love with her so he gives her a chance. But can he trust his best friends sister after all she put him thru? Gillie is strong, and stubborn and determined to protect Flynn. When things get out of her control, they have to call in the B-Squad which includes her brother, Marcus. This is an exciting, exhilarating and very hot and sexy story. For a quick read, it has everything I look for in a story and is very satisfying. I love the B-Squad series and it set up the next book beautifully. I can't wait for more of the B-Squad!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the books I've read so far and am sure the rest will be just as sexy, romantic and engaging. This is a must have anthology when you are looking for a quick sexy romance story!

So far, I have read the following books, and cannot wait to read the rest.

CHECK MY HEART by Christi Barth

Kurt had met Lisette Broussard at a very low point in his life: she was the nurse who took care of Jasper, Kurt’s late teenage brother. Lisette had had a crush on Kurt for several years, but Kurt hadn’t noticed Lisette very much, he took his brother’s illness and subsequent death very hard. Ten months later, Kurt is still grieving, when Lisette has something to ask him. And it’s not what you think. There were wonderful and very touching moments with Jasper, nothing overly sentimental, but it felt so real, it hurt. CHECK MY HEART is sweet, but a tad contrived at times; I’m not sure if it was a consequence of the story dragging a bit too long, even though it’s a novella. I also felt that Kurt did not act very mature, he often sounded like a teenager, in my opinion, even though he’s 32, and Lisette seemed to act younger as the story went on. On the other hand, Lisette was realistic regarding the temporary status of the relationship. There is also a most original but rather unrealistic sex scene. Christi Barth was a new author to me, and I must say I was impressed with the quality of the prose, the dialogues, and the fluid storytelling.

DEEP CHECK by Kimberly Kincaid

After having won the cup, the first thing Finn Donnelly does is go home to Remington and visit the grave of his friend Asher Gibson with his trophy, as it is Finn’s turn to have the Cup for a day. Remington is also where he broke January Sinclair’s heart. January has made a good life for herself as administrator of Station Seventeen, the fire station where Asher was a firefighter. It might have been seven years ago, but January is still angry at Finn for how he behaved, with good reason, but she doesn’t know everything that happened between Asher and Finn. When Finn sees January, he tries to make her understand that he really is sorry for how he behaved, that he was a stupid teenager, and although reluctant January agrees to listen to Finn, but not to make another stupid mistake…

DEEP CHECK by Kimberly Kincaid is light, fun, and very sexy, in spite of a tragedy and a dreadful misunderstanding that touched Finn and January’s lives. I love how they reconnected by really talking and listening to each other, one step at a time, and that there were no ugly words between them. The relationship between January and her dad is wonderful, filled with love and affection. We all know how well Ms. Kincaid knows her way around a fire station, but what surprised me most if how much I enjoyed the fundraiser planning, and the fundraiser itself, as that sort of thing usually nearly puts me to sleep. It was really entertaining and had quite a lot to do with the plot, as well. The same goes for Finn’s contract negotiations, which didn’t turn out as I expected.

Kimberly Kincaid has literally written a full novel in this novella; nothing is missing, the characters are very well developed, and nothing is instantaneous or rushed. The sexual energy crackles and pops around Finn and January, and there is an unforgettable, and very steamy and creative shower sex scene.

FREE AGENT by Robin Covington

The Cajun Rage won the Cup, but DC Washington is a FREE AGENT and might switch teams. He will decide over the weekend; it’ the reason he’s going to Washington, and to show the Cup to a LGBTQ inner city youth center as it’s his day with the trophy. DC had come out as gay earlier that year, and not everyone was supportive. DC has had it bad for Etienne Beaufort, the Rage’s physical therapist, a Cajun fromNew Orleans, for the three years Etienne has been with the team. Etienne is only going to Washington to visit friends and sightsee. Throwing caution to the wind, DC decides to ask Etienne on a date, he’s nervous as can be, especially since DC might not remain in the same State. If anything between them happened, could they make it a long-distance relationship?

FREE AGENT is an M/M romance, and the tone is definitely masculine. Ms. Covington’s descriptions are so accurate, that I really got the impression of a gay club environment, when DC decides he is not going to hide at all anymore, which means much more than coming out publicly. And oh my, how decadently sexy FREE AGENT is! I fell head over heels for Etienne and their very first kiss is so wonderfully tender! The dialogues are great, the pace brisk, the kids at the youth center felt genuine, and the overall banter is terrific.

As expected from Ms. Covington, FREE AGENT is beautifully written, and I loved the crisp descriptions of Washington, DC. I also very much enjoyed the various perspectives on gay men’s life choices the characters presented, as well as Dr. Carla Androghetti’s, who’s a wonderful character, even if only briefly encountered. FREE AGENT is another fine story by the great Robin Covington.
