5 Reasons Writers Love Readers
So, everyone knows we writers love readers, but have you ever wondered why? There are loads of reasons, but here are ten that I think all writers agree with.
1. They're Loyal (Usually)
One thing I know about myself as a reader, is that once an author has hooked me with one of their books, then most of the time I do my best to find out if they have anything else out there to read...and if they don't, I wait until they do.
I've noticed that readers of my books are the same way, and so are book-lover friends of mine the same way with an author they like. It's like this big happy family, where we all read and talk about what we've read together!
2. Readers Read
That's why we're called readers, correct? But I mean true readers. We all have those friends who say they like to read, but they just don't have the time, right? And then you see how much they use social media...no time...right.
True readers love to read, and that's what writers love about readers. They read! And they read a lot. I read every chance I get, and more often than not, me and my reader friends share the same problem. We run out of books on our shelves to read. *shiver*
3. They Care About Quality Material
Okay, this one I'm gonna go on a limb with how I feel. When I read a book, I don't want some sloppy piece of work that looks like the author published their first draft. Honestly, I can't think of anyone who does.
The reason why writers love readers who care about good writing is this: true writers strive to hone their craft. We want to get better, and the only way that is going to happen is if readers tell us when something is off. Let me be clear though. We don't want insults on us or our writing, we want feedback. Honest, yes, but not disrespectful. There is a difference. We love readers for their love of quality material--it makes us better!
4. Readers Are Interactive
We love talking about books and writing, and who better to talk with about that than readers? Readers love to interact with authors, I know as a reader I do. Plus, readers are almost always enthusiastic about a book they've just read (if it's good), and talking with you about books is something that makes us as writers more motivated to put out an outstanding piece of work. Go readers!
5. They're Free Marketing
Haha, okay readers, this one is a little selfish of writers, we know. But it's true! You can't tell me you've never told someone about an amazing book you just read, can you?
Word-of-mouth marketing is the strongest type of marketing. Without you readers, we'd lose a huge part of what we depend on to get visibility for our books. We love it when you excitedly tell your friends on facebook and twitter about our books, and without you we would have a lot harder time doing that on our own.
So, there you have it. 5 Reasons Writers Love Readers. You guys are the best!
Agree or Disagree with anything I've said? Tell me! Start a discussion in the comments, I'd love to talk with you readers (and writers)!
