What Do Recurring Themes Say About You as a Writer?

According to HowStuffWorks.com,

Many people have the same or a similar dream many times, over either a short period of time or their lifetime. Recurring dreams usually mean there is something in your life you’ve not acknowledged that is causing stress of some sort. … In this case, the dreams tend to lessen with time.

I’ve had recurring dreams, but the main point of this post is to discuss recurring themes in writing. I think that the themes we express creatively, like dreams, often reveal a...

The Priceless Importance of Leaving a Book Review!

I have a lot of New Year’s resolutions for 2018 and I plan on sharing them in upcoming posts!

One of goals is to write more often on this blog, even if it’s really brief. Another goal I have is to write more book reviews. It’s important to support other authors. Books are important and I’m going to make sure my actions speak this truth.

After all, I had mentioned that I would be doing reviews for books (for example, Shadowshaper by Daniel Jose Older) I recently read. Unfortunately, I was also...

Looking Forward to a New Year

REBLOGGED! Wow, I just learned that this fellow author created her own publishing company. I’m so proud of her!

E. Paige Burks

This year has been crazy and exciting and heart-wrenching for me. Return to Royalty was published, I created my own publishing company, I did a handful of book signings, made some new writer-friends, participated in some blog hops, went to some comic cons, and lost a dearly loved member of my family.

This month I’ve been dealing with the loss of Daisy, while trying...

Monday’s One-Minute Fiction: Week of December 4

REBLOGGED! This looks like fun. Thank you, Marquessa and Nortina!

Lovely Curses

Rise and shine! Time to get out your stop watches, exercise your typing fingers, and pick your brains for some quick creativity.

Monday’s One-Minute Fiction challenges you to write a complete micro-fiction piece in, you guessed it, one minute, no more, no less, based on the prompt provided! Of course, you can come back to edit for grammar & spelling, but the story itself must be written in a minute.

Your prompt m...

REBLOGGED from D.E. Haggerty, the original writer of this post. Yes, blog writing is often harder for me as well.

The Little Mermaid

Eureka! I’ve finally discovered the secret to blogging success! The good news is that I can’t wait to share the magic potion with all of you! Whoot!

What is ‘blogging success’ at the outset? Is it something achievable? Is it quantifiable? For me, a successful blog is one that is loved by all. A blog that is pampered in its niche attracts thousands of visitors, garners hundreds...

Dear NaNoWriMo Cheerleaders, I Want to, But . . .

Cheerleaders of NaNoWriMo, I’m already behind. Based on the 50,000 word goal, I already have a deficit of 10,002 words!

Yes, I’ve written some short stories. There’s one that I’m finishing up for a November 15th deadline, but does that even count towards the novel of my dreams?!

You see, I have a novel inside of me that needs to be written. It makes threats. It keeps me up at night. The characters taunt me, “Monique, we’re so much more interesting than those other characters you created. Come...
