A Sneak Peek: Entangled, A Short Pride and Prejudice Variation

Caught in a Maze Monica Fairview WIP EntangledHi everyone, I hope the summer is treating you well. Here in London we’ve had a heatwave lasting around ten days followed by torrential rain and flooding yesterday.

At least the plums in our garden are ripe. We picked the first batch this afternoon.  I wonder whether Elizabeth and Darcy liked plums? If they did, they would have eaten some in Kent (though not during their Spring visit to Hunsford when they would have encountered the blossoms, not the fruits).  Kent used to be known as the Garden ...

That Which We Call a Rose…

“That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” ~Romeo and Juliet

To love and appreciate something, you really have to understand it; understand the layers, choices, and in-depth intricacies of the whole package. Whether it’s why someone uses cayenne pepper in hot chocolate, or ranch dressing instead of ketchup on their fries, even the smallest choices can be impactful.

As a writer, people often ask how I choose my characters’ names. Do I look them up in a baby book, try t...

Avoiding ‘Busy Nothings’

Hello, fellow Janeites! My name is Anngela Schroeder, and I am the newest member of Austen Variations.

I’ve been writing in the lovely world of JAFF for five years with six novels and four short stories published and more on the way.

My journey here began before I even realized it. Having three brothers, and no sisters, I was in the mix of competition. If my brothers could do it, I had to do it too: play second base, shoot free-throws, and catch a ‘hail Mary’ for a touchdown. I was constantly ...

Elinor Seeks Solace in a Maze

Hello everyone!

This month’s theme is “Caught in a Maze”, and I decided to use it as inspiration and see what I could come up with for a vignette. Having no real ideas, I thought I’d finally do something I’ve been considering for months and use a prompt from this amusing little book that was in my Christmas stocking several years ago: Nancy Drew’s Guide to Life, by Jennifer Worick. I loved Nancy Drew books when I was much (much) younger. If it works out well, I’ll give it another go soon.

I have...

A Persuasion Short Story

Happy July, friends! I’m offering a story I had hoped to share in June, when the theme was “Blossoming Love.” Needless to say, I proved once again my immunity to deadlines! So here I am, in July, with a short story I had not really meant to write.

Some of you may know that I am in the midst of writing a Pride and Prejudice variation called Disappearing Act. But my mind likes to play tricks on me and give me plot bunnies for other stories based on completely different novels. (I hear this is a co...

Twists of Fate Giveaway & Murphy’s Law: the JAFF Version

Good morning, and thanks for stopping by today as I’m callously preparing to ruin Mr Darcy’s wedding day. If you missed any of the posts on the TWISTS OF FATE blog tour, you can find them here: A ride in the rain; A fiery Mr Darcy; A very un-Hunsford-like proposal; Breaking the wall of silence andAsk Me Anything!

New Book!

I have a new book up for pre-order! You can get it on Amazon now (Click here for the US store, click here for UK) and everywhere else in a few days. Release day is July 15th!

This story is part of a collection of stories that all start from the same point in canon: Lydia’s elopement. Lest you think the focus is not on our favorite couple, allow me to disabuse you of that notion. Elizabeth and Darcy are the main stars, but Lydia’s elopement is the catalyst to events.

I have been thinking about a ...
