Beauty and the Beast
Beauty and the Beast: Book of the Film, by Elizabeth Rudnick
Blurb:Belle dreams of adventures like the ones she reads about in her books - until she becomes the prisoner of a fearsome Beast in a mysterious, enchanted castle. But life in the castle isn't as terrible as Belle imagines, and soon she realizes there is more to the Beast than first meets the eye. Experience this tale as old as time about adventure and love, about looking past first appearances, about the inner Beauty and Beast in all of us. Disney Beauty and the Beast Book of the Film is based on the live-action film starring Emma Watson.Okay, I hate writing bad reviews but here it goes...I don't usually read books of the film, but I love Beauty and the Beast and wanted to give it a go. I kinda wish I hadn't bothered. Though I knew it wouldn't have anything too graphic in it, I assumed this was more targeted towards adults, or at least young adults, since it's a novel, however, it may as well have been another children's picture book since the writing was sosimplistic. Also, I expected it to stick to the film, but it was almost word by word; I was expecting character development and feeling but there was none of that. I don't see why they bothered writing a book of the film if there was nothing extra to add, take my advise and just stick to the film...

The Great Soul of Siberia
The Great Soul of Siberia: In Search of the Elusive Siberian Tiger, by Sooyong Park
Blurb:There are five races of tiger on our planet and all but one live in tropical regions: the Siberian Tiger Panthera tigris altaica is the exception. Mysterious and elusive, and with only 350 remaining in the wild, the Siberian tiger remains a complete enigma. One man has set out to change this.Sooyong Park has spent twenty years tracking and observing these elusive tigers. Each year he spends six months braving sub-zero temperatures, buried in grave-like underground bunkers, fearlessly immersing himself in the lives of Siberian tigers. As he watches the brutal, day-to-day struggle to survive the harsh landscape, threatened by poachers and the disappearance of the pristine habitat, Park becomes emotionally and spiritually attached to these beautiful and deadly predators. No one has ever been this close: as he comes face-to-face with one tiger, Bloody Mary, her fierce determination to protect her cubs nearly results in his own bloody demise. This is a beautifully written, interesting and heartbreaking book. I've always loved wildlife books and this was no exception, though it was so sad to hear about all the trials the tigers have to endure at the hands of man. I liked that there was also information about other wildlife, the forest and the tribes that inhabit it. There were also some beautiful photos.I would love to read more of Sooyong Park's work and admire him greatly for dedicating his life to these beautiful animals. I would also be interested in checking out some of the documentary footage he gathered over the years...A great book for any animal lover! My favourite quotes from 'The Great Soul of Siberia':'This species, considered in the past to be the bravest and most sacred on earth, is walking down an irreversible path to extinction at the hands of mankind.''We can't see all of nature with our own eyes, and there is no need to. Like the monk who believed that the baby jay would grow safely into adulthood without him watching,it's important that we believe without seeing.''Trusting an animal is there by looking at its traces rather than pursuing the animal itself: that is faith in nature.''... rousing yesterday's snow like a dragon spiralling up to the sky each time the wind hit it.''In our effort to live life to the fullest, we sometimes deprive ourselves of the time to reflect on what is truly missing in our lives and how to fill that void.''The days were still cold, but all living things know there are always warmer days to come. There are lives that cannot hold on despite this knowledge, and those that are full of life because of this promise.'

Bound Together
Bound Together, (Sisters of the Heart Series, Book 6), by Christine Feehan
Blurb:For five years, Viktor Prakenskii has put his life on hold in order to take down the world’s most feared motorcycle club from the inside. But carrying out the insane violence and seeing the club’s exploitation of the innocent has brought his traumatic past roaring back. And there’s only one cure: to see the wife he left behind...Blythe Daniels thought she’d never see Viktor again after he murdered her stepfather and left without a word. She rebuilt her life without him, becoming a personal trainer and physical therapist...becoming strong enough for others to lean on. But when Viktor comes back to Sea Haven, he’ll make Blythe question everything she thought she knew about good and evil—and the dark desires of the heart...I have enjoyed this series, as well as the Drake series before it, and I'm sure I will like the spin-off about Viktor's adoptive brother and sisters, since I'm very curious about all of them. However, I was a little disappointed by this book... For a while I've found that the books are getting quite repetitive; with a few exceptions, the Prakenskii brothers are practically identical and there are certain sentences and explanations that get repeated throughout the book until I could feel myself rolling my eyes and beginning to get a little annoyed - I do not need to be told the same thing a hundred times, I got it the first time!I always enjoy Christine Feehan's characters and although I've never been intrigued by Blythe, Viktor has interested me since we met him properly in book 6 and I liked the brief introduction we got to his adoptive brothers, although I would have liked a scene of them meeting Blythe's sisters and Viktor's blood brothers. Honestly, I was a little disappointed that it didn't happen and there wasn't as much interaction between the main characters and the supporting characters as there usually is, which I usually really like. And then there was the issue of Blythe's puppy... where was she the whole book? :-(It was a good book for the most part, though I didn't feel it was an adequate end to the series, despite there being a spin-off.My favourite quotes from 'Bound Together':'Blythe could hear her heart beating, telling her she was still alive, when for so long, she didn't want to be.''... children need to protect their world, even if it's a terrible one.''Just because it isn't fair to tell you doesn't mean it isn't true.''You loved a person for who they were, not what you wanted them to become.''Can you live with us the way we are? Fucked-up. Imperfect, but trying.''It's probably illegal and he's going to get himself in trouble without me to figure out just how to get away with the crime he's about to commit.''He didn't sweat the small stuff because his life was filled with big things to worry about.''She could feel the way they all viewed her man, and she knew they were crushing him with the weight of their needs.'' "... they expect you to save the world because I expected you to save them. ... I saved their lives, but I can't save my own soul so I brought them here with me hoping you could do it." ''... the last thing she wanted to do was leave the boy with the club members without supervision. As far as she was concerned, they all needed supervision ...''Let them come. We don't mind enemies. We wouldn't know what to do without them.'

Forest of Ancestors
Forest of Ancestors, (The Guardians, Book 1), by K.A. Denver
Blurb:Eli is not your average witch, he is a member of a group of elite trained warriors fighting evil entities that torment the non-magical world. However, when one of their leaders is murdered, questions are raised and an ancient foe of Dark Witches, who was previously thought to be long gone, reappears. It will take all their abilities to defeat this enemy with the possible help of an unlikely ally.Knowing the past will lead them to unexpected revelation which erupts into a battle unlike any other. Eli is about to discover all is not as it seems and life has plenty of tricks up its sleeve. This is K.A. Denver's first book and is the first in The Guardians Series. The first chapter drops you straight into the action and the entire book was very fast paced. I loved that this book centres around a group of male witches, which is rarely seen, or at least I've rarely read a book with male witches! I enjoyed the interaction between the large cast of characters and I loved that their coven was like a huge, extended family. Finally, there was Parker... as Eli's familiar I thought he would have played more of a role, however, I thought he was brilliant! The only thing I will say is that at times it felt a little repetitive, with certain things explained several times, however, this was a very enjoyable read! :-)

Winter
Winter, (Lunar Chronicles Series, Book 4), Marissa Meyer
Blurb:Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mark her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won't approve of her feelings for her childhood friend--the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn't as weak as Levana believes her to be and she's been undermining her stepmother's wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that's been raging for far too long. Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?OMG, I loved this book! I've enjoyed all of the series, but Winter and Cress were just amazing. The characters and the storyline are brilliant and, despite the fact that it was a very long book, there was no point at which I got tired. Cress and Thorne are still my favourite pair, but Winter and Jacin were a close second! Winter may be a little nuts, but she was so cute and innocent that it was impossible not to adore her. I also enjoyed how she interacted with the other characters, especially Scarlet, because (unfortunately) I can imagine myself being just as impatient as she was.I enjoyed the multiple view points, but since the book is entitled Winter, I thought there would be more from her POV.The ending, with the soldiers was unexpected and a nice twist, and I liked how we saw the characters at the end resolving everything and coming together once more. The only disappointing thing was that Iko didn't get a HEA and I'm desperately hoping she gets her own book... perhaps with Kinney, that would be interesting! My favourite quotes from 'Winter':' "I need him as much as he needs me. But that doesn't make it love."Winter lowered her lashes. "Actually, dear friend, I suspect that is precisely what makes it love." ''Dreaming was for people with nothing better to do.'' "... How does it make anything better?""It does not make anything worse." ''... broken isn't the same as unfixable.'' "... Are you hallucinating right now?"Winter forced a smile. "Not unless you are a figment of my imagination, but how could I ever be sure one way or the other? So I will go on believing you are real." ''Scars, scars. She was coming to have so many. She wondered if it was wrong to be proud of them.''She was trapped. Thorne was captured. But they had been heroic.'' "You're my princess, right? You were always going to be my princess, no matter what you were born, no matter who your dad married." '' "I have a computer in my brain," she said. "So while I'm not going to tell you that I am the smartest or, by any means, the most experienced person in this room, I would suggest that no one use my youth to believe that I am also ignorant." ''One should never save cake for later when it can be eaten now.'

Lacey's Law
Lacey's Law, by L S Fellows
Blurb:Lacey Fielding has everything she's ever wanted: her dream job, a riverside apartment ... and a score to settle.Eight years ago, she learned the reason behind her father's death. And it wasn't pretty.Revenge was inevitable.Carla, a 'friend' of thirty years, is her target.Today,Carla will pay. After teasing her friend into a frenzy, Lacey is about to confess all.But her plan takes an unexpected, yet deliciously delightful, turn. The outcome puts Carla's liberty and even her sanity at stake.Lacey is having so much fun, watching Carla's life collapse .... until an ironic shift in circumstances challenges - and changes - her own 'happy' ending forever.Reviewed for Readers' Favorite.Lacey’s Law by L S Fellows follows one woman on her path of vengeance against someone who was supposed to be her friend, Carla. Years in the making, Lacey’s cunning plan takes an unexpected turn and she ends up in the hospital with a head wound, however, she soon figures out how to use it to her advantage. While playing house with Carla's husband Phil, Lacey manipulates everyone into believing that she is a victim and that Carla is insane. However, as the court date looms, will Lacey be able to follow through with her plan to destroy Carla for the wrongs committed against her?I enjoyed Lacey's Law ; the beginning was fact paced and drew you into the story right away. L S Fellows makes you wonder and guess about what Carla could possibly have done to garner such animosity and although she doesn't tell you right away, she drops clues and doesn't keep it hidden so long that you begin to loose interest. Despite the fact that you could say Lacey is the 'villain' in this book, the author draws you into her life and makes you care about her; her feelings towards her so-called friend are relatable and her feelings for Phil show a softer side that is needed to make her feel human. My only quibble with this story - hence four stars instead of five - is that it looses some of it's tension and pacing towards the end as everything winds down, however, Lacey's Law was definitely an enjoyable read if you like your heroines with an edge!
