It's a Joy FULL Life - words to live by

(Signed/matted print available here)
Ever since last year when I wrote my own manifesto (combined with my creating a special edition for Brene's parenting manifesto), I've been thinking of ways I could take my love affair of art & words & life a bit further.
I think I found a way! Above is my first in a series of life declarations, soul manifestos, words to live by  - whatever you want to call them - that will speak into the stories + experiences we all share. From joyful living to holding onto hope to gratitude to healing to love to friendship to change to finally finding our voices to motherhood and marriage and new beginnings and and and. I'm excited.
I posed this question over on Facebook, but I'd love to ask you guys as well: What kinds of topics would you love to see manifesto-ized. I'd love to know! The one above is available right here.
XO and here's to a brand new series! Kelly Rae

Nourish Your Soul with a new mannequin, jewelry, wall hooks + wristlets.

Each week, I shine a spotlight on a few creations that I'm particularly proud of.  Click here to see all the posts in this series.
PS: All of the products featured below (and more) are sold online via Garden Gallery Works (a local shop here in the Portland area), but if you're looking for signed/matted prints and/or originals, you can get these in my online shop

PPS: International customers, Garden Gallery is HAPPY to ship worldwide. Please email them  at gardengalleryorders@gmail.com to get started.

New! I'm crazy loving the new jewelry mannequin. I had the best time setting her up in my bathroom (pictured above). Finally - something really substantial to hold it all (necklaces, earrings, bracelets). This is definitely a piece of furniture and not something that would fit on top of a vanity. I have mine on the floor, sitting on top of a suitcase. It's tall at 41"!

Double sided bust. The double sided bust form is covered in fabric. One side features a girl image that reads 'Beauty Matters, surround yourself with it' and the other side doesn't have a girl or words - just lovely pretty fabric. Both sides are photo'd above. The wire bottom features 12 hooks that go all the way around the entire form. LOVE LOVE LOVE! Get yours here. These won't last long.

Speaking of jewelry, loving our new collection of cross necklaces. I'm partial to the large ones, but I think they're all gorgeous - an artful collection. Wouldn't they be beautiful layered or just resting on a vanity? Been gifting these out a lot lately. All affordable, too! You can get them all right here

This flower wall hook is darling in person! AAAnd the new wristlet collection! Holy smokes. There are five total in the collection. These babies are the perfect size for your phone, cards + money, and lipstick! Carry it alone or toss it into your larger bag.

Seeker of Truth is available here.
(PS: It's not real leather)

Thanks, friends. Our mission is to continue to create products that blend creativity with meaning, beauty with function. I so love what I do.

Warmly,
Kelly Rae

The Magic of Disney

This is totally happening!!!!

We are off on a BIG adventure. And he insist on looking adorable;)

We all slept in the bed together last nite in the hotel bed. True woke us up with the gentlest kisses. Melted my heart.

Super full day at Disney. He did great. First boat ride. First train ride. First Disney ride. Was happy and delighted to be there. All day it was "that was so fun!"

Just went on his first "ride". Winnie the Pooh. Loved it! I am seeing Disney through the eyes of a two year old. Which is awesome. I heard Mickey say over the loud speakers "we have to find the magic that lives in our hearts" and the happy tears misted up
IMG_2825

Goodbye Disney. You were indeed magical.
Warm + sun = nice to be here.
IMG_2767
So this happened today. Gotta love small town Florida old school amusement parks.

Did I tell you we took a family trip to Florida a couple of weeks ago? It was a big adventure. Grandparents! Disney! Beach! Pools! Small town fairs!

I haven't been to Disney since high school and I was surprised how much I loved going back and seeing it through the thrilled spirit of a two year old. True loved it. There really is a sense of magic. There was a moment when we first walked in and we're all walking toward the castle and Micky comes over the loud speakers and says "we have to find the magic that lives in our hearts." I got a teeny bit teary eyed by all of it - just overwhelmed by the sweetness of the energy. Definitely looking forward to going back.

We love traveling with True. I'd love, love, love to do more of it with him. Lately, I've been full on daydreaming about a sabbatical - just a good chunk of time that would allow some family travel adventures - perhaps abroad, perhaps not. I'm going to work on inviting/manifesting that in!

I'm on the green juice train!

My life lately: Green juice and emails. Repeat. Repeat. Friends, we've been juicing and it's become a full-on family affair! We started with the Carrot, Apple, Ginger and now we're all about the green juice - every single day. It feels like a huge healthy deal, because the truth is is that this sort of thing (being intentional about food, creating space for it, that sort of thing) is a HUGE struggle for me. Plus, I don't actually like things like kale, and spinach, and cucumbers, and most green foods.

But this juicing thing is helping, tremendously. I also tend towards skipping meals so it has become an easy way to make sure I'm eating! Hello, convenience + thank you straw! And it's totally yum, too. Who knew?

Our routine. We have a weekly juicing routine where we juice every Sunday + Wednesday. On both days, we (True, too! He loves to help hand us the veggies) make enough juice to fill six 32oz mason jars. We then divide them between the two of us so we each have three jars of juice to last us until our next juicing day. This works out to be about one 32oz mason jar of green juice, per day, for each of us. I drink half of my jar (16 oz) for a morning snack and the remainder (16oz) in the afternoon.

First green juice of three day juice cleanse. Here we go! @lacylike
Now, nobody can convince me to drink something that taste like dirt, no matter how good it is for me. I have to actually like it if I'm going to drink it - and I'm known for being quite picky. Also, because I am especially new at all of this, I need it all to be spelled out for me (what to buy, how much to buy, etc). Enter Lacy. Thank goodness for Lacy and her juicing recipes. They are all delicious and she tells you (photos included!) what to buy! Our favorite is the kale, romaine, cucumber, apple or pear, lemon and ginger. Do I actually like kale and cucumber? NO! But the other stuff covers up their tastes. We're also pretty in love with one of her fruit juice recipes called the Melted Popsicle.
Dust off your juicers, friends. It's totally worth it. I'm feeling pretty great. In addition to juicing. we're having green smoothies most mornings - more on that soon (also delish!). My next wellness goal is to sweat a bit more every week (hello, exercise!). Small steps, small steps!
Our juicing must haves: * Juicer - We bought this Juiceman a couple of months ago when we started juicing. It's been working just fine but we've noticed that it's getting more and more clogged the more we use it. We're considering upgrading to a Breville juicer, but haven't done so yet.
* Mason Jars - We're using these but you can get all sorts of sizes, depending on your needs.
XO,Kelly Rae

P.S. Can you believe we surpassed 20K likes on our Facebook page!? Thank you so very much for all the FB likes! I like you too, very much! To celebrate, we're offering 20% off all signed + matted prints in the shop through this Friday, April 5th. Use coupon code 20/20 at check out.

XO!

PPS: One of my favorite artists and creative besties has just launched registration for her painting ecourse. Oh my! I'm so excited to take this class. Having taught alongside Mati, I know she is an amazing, gentle, thoughtful, effective teacher. I can't wait to learn from her. Wanna join me? Sweet. She's offering a major discount if you sign up early. GO, go, go

Home Tour :: Office

Remember way back when we renovated this house and we scraped the white painted walls of this room only to find layers and layers of vintage wallpaper? I remember it like yesterday, and I'm so glad we decided to keep the walls.
The room became our nursery (oh how I miss those tiny baby days!). Recently, though, we moved toddler True to a larger room and made this room our shared home office. I'm still primarily working from my studio, but on the days I'm working from home (often, lately), this is where I'm at.

John made this desk from reclaimed wood flooring from the home rebuilding center (love that place). The ikea shelving is always a good idea for storage. We're using an old magazine holder as a trashcan. I like the masculinity of this room paired with the vintage vibe - it's a great combo for a his/hers space.

An old china cabinet holds plants, plants, and more. Love it. Love how, at first glance, the wall looks like an old map.

Although I adored my little office in a closet, I really love having a space in our house that we can both share. Also love that I can do quick chunks of working from home on those days when I really don't want to miss anything happening in family world. Always a balancing act of work and mama life :)
XO!

Eek! Swoon! Love! Friends, we've just released a NEW apron and as you can tell in the photo above, I'm a little obsessed. Time for looking cute in the kitchen with our new half apron! Available here.  Yes!

More kitchen goodness with these NEW tea towels. Loving how these turned out - I'm digging all the white space with the colorful touches. Shine + Celebrate make awesome hostess gifts if I do say so myself!

making art with true

IMG_2279
One of my favorite photos of True, ever. His little beaming, proud smile while he stands next to his latest masterpiece. Mama pride, through the roof. Not even sure it's pride really, but rather I'm just so glad for him, for his happiness.

Collaborating with True is one of my favorite pastimes. The current scene. IMG_2717
True and I have weekly art dates. Super simple, no fuss. We simply gather together at the easel in our dining room, squeeze out the paints, and he GOES FOR IT. I show him a couple things (mainly texture stuff, mark making with his fingers, twirling his paint brush around, stamping paint with a sponge - that sort of thing), and off he goes.
IMG_2728
I love studying how he goes about it. What choices he makes - where he chooses to make a mark, what colors he chooses. I make a conscious effort to stay out of his way and not lead him too much. I'm always surprised how he never seems to muddy up his paintings or over do it. He just seems to know when to stop, declaring it done. I find this utterly fascinating to watch.
IMG_2724
See what  I mean about the way he spreads his colors and marks around and knowing when it's complete? He gets a little excited :). We've been hanging up his paintings all over the house. I find that if we use washi tape on the walls, it doesn't rip off the paint and besides, the washi tape is cuuuttte.
He has the best time. Love watching h go for it.
Sometimes he'll come to the studio and sit at the table and paint there as well. Gosh, he's getting so big (2.5 years old!).
IMG_2263
And other times I find him sitting quietly at his table coloring or drawing - he definitely prefers pens to crayons and markers.
Proudly walking around saying "I'm an artist!" Over and over. Super cute Sunday morning over here.
The other day he finished this watercolor painting and marched with it all around the house exclaiming, "I'm an artist! I'm an artist!" to which John and I confirmed and celebrated. He's also a storyteller ("Once upon a time there was a purple giraffe....the end!") and a singer ("Hey Jude, don't be afraid....) and dancer and lover of reggae music (he has a strange fascination with Bob Marley - he can recognize "reggae" the second he hears the beat and screams "It's reggae!!!") and so much more. This kid is awesome.
Our favorite kid art supplies:
Gotta have an easel. We like this one.
Gotta have an apron/smock (long sleeves!). We have several, including this one.
Gotta have FUN paintbrushes that make cool/kid-loving marks, like these.
Gotta have watercolors and paints - we love anything made by Alex (esp their sparkly paint) or Melissa + Doug.

PS: Here's a quick video of True singing "God Bless America" which seems to be this weeks obsession (last week it was "Hey Jude"). Mimi (my mom) taught him the words...super duper cute.

Embrace the Chaos

Signed/matted prints available here.

Life and biz are moving full steam ahead these days. Though I try different routines + schedules to try and put it all into balance, or into a nice tidy box, the truth is, most of the time, it simply doesn't work.
What I'm learning these days is this: The second I lean into the chaos, put on my big girl pants and take the driving wheel from the younger version of myself that tends to get overwhelmed, I can feel my chest expanding with the knowing that I totally got this. I got her. I got this.
Honestly, friends, it feels like a practice in self compassion toward the pieces of myself that insist on adding in teeny bits of suffering (I'm overwhelmed! I'm under appreciated! I'm not seen!) when the overwhelming evidence is that it always works out
All we can do is embrace the chaos, keep our hearts open, and keep on truckin'!

Right? Right. Wishing the same sweet surrender for you. Let's keep our hearts open, through and through.
XO
