Dawn of the Dreamer – Available NOW!

IMG_4245Dawn of the Dreamer is officially available for purchase!

It has taken a lot of time and dedication to get to this point but I am so excited to finally be able to share Dawn of the Dreamer with you all! A huge thank you to the people who shared their views, thoughts and wisdom to help Dawn of the Dreamer become the story that it is! Without you believing in Amelia and her friends I’m not sure I would have gotten this far and I am so proud of what we have achieved. Also a huge thanks to my amazing husband and two beautiful children who have been by my side supporting me throughout the entire adventure, I love you with all of my heart.

Dawn of the Dreamer can be purchased via www.ljhiggins.com and is also available at most online bookstores. I hope you enjoy reading the words as much as I enjoyed writing them.

Keep Dreaming!

My First Blog Post!

Welcome to my new blog! I am thrilled to launch my blog website and be able to share even more exciting news with you via my posts and let you into the weird and wonderful world of L J Higgins. The last few years have been both challenging and amazing as I came to the realisation that I was ready to write my first novel, wrote it and went on to begin the publishing process. It has been a long but fulfilling experience and I have learnt so much about myself and the craft of writing along the way and I’m eager to keep learning.

At seventeen I wrote short stories. They were terrible. Teen love stories with best friends who fought, and rich boys who fell in love with the nerdy girl next door. Throughout high school I continued to write attending some workshops when a teacher noticed my passion. But once high school ended my writing fell to the side and gave way to socialising, boys and other life experiences. Although I picked up a pen once in a while it wasn’t until I had married my husband, and given birth to my two children that I found my passion for writing return.

A few years as a stay at home mum had me feeling lost and less like myself every day. I loved my family and the life my husband and I had created for ourselves, but something was missing. I’d forgotten myself in the world of nappies, bottles and routine. After reading a blog post one day I decided to give it a go myself and created my first blog. It was a way for me to be myself again, allow myself to be more than a mother. Although largely read by my friends and family my love for writing returned to the forefront of my mind and I enjoyed how freeing it was to put words down on paper for people to read and enjoy, and use my vivid imagination once again.

Seeing the enjoyment I got from writing a friend bought me a notebook and inside she stuck a post it note with the message, “This book is for you to write your notes and your short stories. Can’t wait to read your future novel!” That night I had a dream and woke up with the seed of a story that grew into Amelia’s tale in Dawn of the Dreamer and the Dreamer Trilogy. It was a thoughtful gift that started me on this amazing adventure, publishing my first novel.

I wrote! It took a year to complete and with the help of friends, family and google I broke down what I had written, throwing away the not so great sentences, adding new paragraphs and bulking up the sections that weren’t quite there yet. It became hard at times to find the balance between focusing on my book and making time for my family but with my husband’s help I finally had a complete manuscript in my hand.

Now I am ready to release the first novel of the Dreamer Trilogy Dawn of the Dreamer and I can’t wait to share it with you. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed creating it and look forward to writing the second instalment of the Dreamer Trilogy.
