Important St. Paul Update - Saturday morning
Hey, Minnesota residents. Or should I say, Minnesnowta.
Weather is most certainly going to be delaying the start time of my signing at the Mall of America today. I'm waiting for details about my travel schedule as I type this (Saturday, 12/11, 6am Eastern/5am Central). The instant I have confirmed details, I will post them here for you, so stay stuned for the new time. Thanks!

Town to town, up and down the dial...
Greetings from Ohio! Tonight finds me in beautiful Cincinnati, right near the Kentucky border. I flew in from Chicago this morning to do a radio interview and then later had a pretty awesome event over at Joseph-Beth Booksellers.

JB is an amazing store, and they did a really great job. Lots of people drove in from some surrounding states, like Kentucky and Illinois, as well as far-out places in Ohio. Along with new faces, there were also folks who had seen me at previous signings in Lexington and Columbus.

Carrying on Chicago's Midwest tradition, Cincinnati represented with T-shirts. We had the Dimitri fans...

...and the Adrian fans.

There were some quote shirts in the house too.

And we even started branching out into signs at this event.

One reader even came in wearing some VA handcrafted attire. Fashionable AND warm.

This is a fun region, and everyone was so nice that my Wolverine instincts were able to cope with all the Buckeye gear that abounded. I also like the Midwest because they know I don't have an accent.

It's hard to see, but this is a Georgina bag someone made for me with the cover of Succubus Shadows on it. Georgina doesn't have too much handmade merch out there, so it's always fun to see stuff like this.

So, thank you so much to Joseph-Beth and all the people (many of whom drove hours) to come see me! This was a super good time. Tomorrow, I'll be signing in St. Paul at--wait for it--the Mall of America! It's snowing there now, but I've been told it's "only" 6-8 inches and shouldn't affect travel. So, fingers crossed! See you soon, Minnesota.

Chicagotastic
Well, the New York City pictures remain elusive. It turns out that they're just so giant, none of my hotels' wireless connections want to download them. So, we may just all wait and have them be a surprise when I'm home in Seattle.
Tonight, I was in the Windy City of Chicago, which--ironically--is the least windy place I've visited on tour so far. NYC and Philadelphia were not kind to my hair. After flying in this morning, I did some hardcore stock signing. This means you may find some signed copies of my books in the area, if you missed the big signing tonight. Places to check are Borders stores in Oakbrook, Oak Park, and Norridge, as well Anderson's in Naperville. We also visited a B&N not far from O'Hare, but I can't recall the specifics, except that it was really big. Oh, Rachael Ray's coming there, so it might be Oakbrook Center. Regardless, call these places if you're looking for a signed book.
You can also find extra signed copies at the Book Cellar, the hosting store for my event tonight. The signing was held at Northside College Prep, this really enormous and amazing high school. I signed in their auditorium:

The weather started to turn on us and kept some people from coming out tonight, but we still had a great crowd who braved the elements. I got to meet a lot of people from the Chicago area and neighboring states--and even some from North Carolina.

I also got to see a rare Georgina shirt! Check it out.

In a word: awesome.
Kind readers ensured I'd surive the weather by bringing me some sustenance. Nikki made sure I'd have caffeine tomorrow, and Kelly here brought me some classic Chicago sweets.

All in all, a great night! Thanks very much to those who braved the weather. It's still snowing, but I'm told it should all be fine tomorrow, which is good news since I'll be flying out to Cincinnati. Details about that, as usual, are on my website. Hope to see you Ohio-ans there at 7pm at Joseph-Beth.

Philadelphia Story
My husband sent me the New York pictures, but I had some trouble downloading at my hotel today. So, I'm going to try those again tomorrow and instead jump right into a recap of my day in Philadelphia.
I arrived in the City of Brotherly Love bright and early this morning, in order to do a brief interview on The 10! Show. It was the first TV interview I've ever done in front of a live studio audience (which really isn't so different from a signing), but most of the audience was a Girl Scout troop, which was pretty cool. The link to the interview is here.
After some city stock signings, I caught a much-needed nap at my hotel and then headed out to tonight's event. It was put on by Doylestown Bookstore but hosted at the Mercer Museum, this amazing place that looked like it could totally be somewhere the founding fathers hung out.

This crowd really turned up the T-shirts. The Dimitri fan in the middle looks a little nervous stuck between two Adrian fans. Of course, maybe she doesn't have to worry if they turn on each other instead to fight over who gets him.

This group of friends came out representing the whole VA series.

Each of their shirts had the respective book's tagline on the back.

A number of people here tonight had seen me at the Delaware and/or Maryland signings in the last year...

...and had the shirt to prove it:

What's this? I spy an Arcane Vault shirt!

Shirts weren't the only thing representing. Senita came with a full set of tattoos:

There were also some VA handcrafted projects on-hand, like this folder full of Dimitri-love.

The folder's creator had a pretty awesome quote shirt too. I love those, though they never photograph well. Trust me that it was cool.

It was a long, busy, and fun signing. This family waited almost three hours to get books signed and gifted me with a really, really neat elephant good luck charm.

Little did I know that I was actually about to meet a fellow author. We posed together with our respective books.

I adored her book, which hopefully you can see more closely here. I want two things noted, however. First, she asked me to sign it. Second, I blotted out her name for privacy. So, don't go thinking I covered up her name to replace it with mine and steal credit for The Happy Book, okay?

All in all, a very good night, filled with lots of great people! Thank you so much to the hosts, workers, and attendees. Everyone in in the Philadelphia area is so friendly, and driving through the suburbs is like going through quaint, magical Colonial villages (with Chick-Fil-A's and Best Buys). Tomorrow finds me in the Windy City, where I hope I'll see Chicagoland at 7pm at Northside College Prep. Details of that and my future stops are here.

Brotherly Love!
Last night's tour kick-off in New York City was pretty amazing. Thank you so much to B&N for hosting and to everyone who came out from near and far. It was a great time. I hope people enjoyed the webcast too!
My husband went home to Seattle this morning, while I went off to the rest of my tour. Since last night's pictures on his camera, I have to wait for him to email them before I can post. In the meantime, I wanted to give Philadelphia area residents the heads-up that I'll be signing tonight in Doylestown, PA at 7pm at the Mercer Museum. If you're nearby, I hope you can make it!
Tomorrow I'll be in the Chicago area. Info about that event and the rest of my tour locations can be found over on my website.
Time to put my game face on now so that I can meet the City of Brotherly Love! Pictures from it (and hopefully New York) coming soon. :)

Last Sacrifice Eve
Well, Last Sacrifice is slowly being released around the world! Crazy, huh? by this time tomorrow, all time zones will have access. Can't wait to hear what people think!
I'm still in New York City, getting ready for my release day signing tomorrow. I've mentioned it before, but for people who can't make one of my signings, the NYC one is being broadcast live at this link. When you register for it, I think you then go back to that web address when the time comes. Make sure you calculate your time zone correctly! The part that will be broadcast is how I open all of my signings--with a reading and Q&A. They'll take questions from web viewers too, though be advised that only a few will get in. Who knows, though? Could be yours! Also, for those worried about spoilers, I always ask at events that no one ask anything that gives away an ending--so, if people are respectful of that, you should hopefully be able to watch safely. :)
And, of course, if you've missed the rest of my tour list, you can see if I'll be visiting your city by going to this page.
Okay, that's all I've got! Not much to do except wait for LS to come out. I actually had the weekend off in New York, which was super fun and why I haven't been around much (my phone can't update my blog so well). I visit lots of cool cities on book tours but almost never get to sight-see because I'm only in them for one day. Because I've been here for a few days and have had my husband with me, we've actually gotten to do some touristy stuff. We saw the Spider-Man Broadway play, as well as Pee-Wee Herman's Broadway show--which was exactly like watching the 80s TV show. It was awesome. Then, tonight, after I'd finished up some promo stuff for Penguin, we got to go be in the audience for a taping of The Daily Show and see Jon Stewart (from afar). Good times!
Touristy stuff is over now. Tomorrow begins Day 1 of ten straight days of book signings in different cities. It'll be hectic, but it's always lots of fun! I'll post recaps and pictures of all of them once things get going!
In closing, I really hope you guys like Last Sacrifice! Be careful--spoilers are everywhere. For Georgina and Eugenie fans, I'll have some cool stuff for you guys soon once the VA buzz has settled a little. Hang in there!

More odds and ends
As we count down toward Last Sacrifice, I've got a couple of things to mention. First up, if you aren't in one of the cities I'll be visiting on my upcoming tour, you can still watch the kick-off signing in New York because it's being webcast live. The info you need to watch it can be found right here.
In other news, my books have gotten a number of nominations recently, which is really amazing and flattering. Thank you very much! If you're interested in voting for any of them, here are the categories/sites I'm at with the voting links:
* Spirit Bound is nominated for Goodreads Best Book of 2010 - Voting is here
* Last Sacrifice is nominated Goodreads Best Yound Adult Fantasy - Voting is here
* Spirit Bound aka Seelenruf is nominated for best foreign cover at the Urban Fantasy Cover Art Awards - Voting is here
* Spirit Bound is nominated for best due at the Urban Fantasy Cover Art Awards - Voting is here
* Spirit Bound aka Seelenruf is nominated for best fantasy book at Leserpreis, which are German book awards - Voting is here
Lastly, for those who ordered signed books from University Bookstore, I signed a bunch of orders yesterday (700!), so I'm guessing yours will ship out if it made the cut-off I'd posted earlier. Always check with the store for questions. As of the writing of this email, I'm in New York City, so I won't be able to sign mail orders for U Books until I'm back on 12/16. So, if you order personalizations, they won't ship until after I'm back in Seattle. They have a limited number of books that already have just a signature in them that you can order before I'm back, but you'll have to check for details with the store.
Okay, that's all for now. Only a handful of days left until Last Sacrifice!

At last - Last Sacrifice excerpt!
Ok, I've had a long day, so I'll keep this short and sweet and let you get to the good stuff! Through more wacky mishaps, the first chapter didn't end up where we expected and got posted at a different site than I last told you. It's crazy...there've been a lot of technical things go wrong in the VA world over the years. Every time, it's something completely unrelated to the previous things! It's like the tech gods hate us.
Anyway, without further delay, I give you: the first chapter of Last Sacrifice.
Enjoy! And thanks for hanging in there. :)

Update
Facebook and Twitter followers will know that due to technical issues beyond my control, the first chapter of Last Sacrifice was unable to be posted today. I really appreciate how kind and understanding people have been about this, particularly since it's one of those things that no one could really do anything about. I know it's disappointing, and I'm just as anxious as you guys to see it.
I'm told it should be posted tomorrow, but as before, I have no info on times. We're all crossing our fingers for the morning - but no guarantees.
I'm going to be gone a lot of the day, so there's a good chance I may not be around when the word comes in that the chapter is up. So, I'm giving you this link to check. When the chapter is live, you'll see it mentioned here first.
Patience for tomorrow!

Good stuff to know before Last Sacrifice
As I predicted, blog entries have been sporadic. I've been pretty busy trying to keep up with my deadlines before Last Sacrifice and the tour. I'll be leaving town before release day to do some promotion type stuff--so for me, this is all going to kick off in less than a week! Crazy.
If you've missed it, this link will take you to my December tour schedule. Can't wait to meet a lot of you! If you don't live in an area I'll be visiting, you can still order an autographed copy of LS (or any of my other books) from University Bookstore. But this is important: University Bookstore cannot ship LS before release day. So, if you order a signed copy, it will ship on December 7 and then need travel time. If you're dying to read the book that day, then just get it locally. If you do want a signed one and want it to ship on 12/7, you should have your orders in no later than 11/29. U Bookstore needs the lead time both to process the orders (they have hundreds right now) and actually sit me down before I leave town to personalize all of them. So long as no snow storms or other delays stop their shipments, you'll be good to go with 11/29. Orders placed after that can't be mailed out until after I'm back in Seattle on 12/16. The store ships internationally, but all questions about that (and any selling type stuff) are best answered by them.
I push U Bookstore a lot because people like signed books, but seriously, there are good stores out there everywhere, in every country. Your local indie, favorite chain store, or mega online retailer should also be able to sell you LS.
Other news: the first chapter of Last Sacrifice is going to be posted on November 29. Here's what's important about this: it is NOT going up at midnight. So, there's no need to start clicking refresh at 12:01 am. I'm not the one posting it, so I honestly can't tell you when it'll be up. My guess is during American business hours (and remember that with time zone conversions, 11/29 will be 11/30 for Australia and that part of the world). Again, I'm not 100% sure of the time, so I don't advise staying up all night for it. Get your sleep! You need it. Then check here or my website. The instant I'm notified about the posting, I'll pop the link up here for you.
Other questions I've been getting are about when LS is being released in other countries. Australia, the UK, and Canada will have it on 12/7, the same as the U.S. Check with your bookstore or contact your country's Penguin branch with questions. Other countries will get English copies whenever your local bookstore or an importer can ship them in, and they're the only ones that can give you info. Translations always take longer, and at this point, there's no non-English speaking country that will have the book out in their native language on release day.
Lastly, there's a whole mess o' video material out there waiting for you. Penguin Australia is still going strong with their Last Sacrifice teasers on their YouTube channel. I also posted some belated Halloween stuff on Facebook and Twitter, but I don't think it ever got put here. First is a video from Open Road Media interviewing me and going over some of my past costumes. The other video was done by author Daniel Marks and is a hilarious visit to my office during my Halloween party. We're both in costume, and he even *gasp* glimpses Last Sacrifice.
Hope you enjoy! Thanks so much for all the LS support that's been rolling in. We're almost there!
