Author Insight

Recently I was listening to Stephen Dubner, freakonomics author on why politicians should be paid more and it was an interesting insight (btw his video is at the link at the bottom of this post).

I once had the opportunity to listen to the President of Singapore. This was in the early 1990s and the president proudly stated that he was the highest paid President in the world and was paid more than the President of the United States. One of the key things that he said that Singapore did to get to where they were was to hire the top talents from different fields and made them in-charge of an equivalent field in the government. Will that work in a democracy, nah.

Take a look at the pays of our politicians and where the average Joe and Jane sits. I don't think that pay necessarily converts to the quality of work that one does. The average mathematics and Physics major is poorly paid but rest assured the quality of work you will get from them is superlative. I think the same holds true of the politicians, one who cares for his constituents will do a good job irrespective of the pay. So I ask you to vote to get politician pay in your constituency to be at par with the pay of the average Joe and Jane of the constituency because isn't they who they should truly represent?
