Who’s Your Favorite Black Brit?
~Sherrie
Black people are not a monolith. We see cultural nuances every day in slang, fashion and even cuisine, and such is the case with Blacks in Great Britain. From sports to art (see the work of Lynette Yiadom-Boakye above) and the economy, they have gained success and become leaders in every sector. Even though Black people make up onl...

One Thing at A Time – Staying Present is the way to go!
I feel very fortunate. I NEVER got into the habit of doing more than one thing at a time. Many people saw it as lazy or maybe even stupid, but since I was a child, I had trouble focusing. Later, it made my jobs difficult. In fact, I lost more than one because of it.

Rapid watercolour sketch of chair in house at Mas Cabardes France
All the sketches in this post are rapid watercolours taken from one of my many sketchbooks.

I arrived at the house in the village of Mas Cabardes during early evening hours. I had taken the train from Paris to Carcassonne, where I took a local mini bus up into the beautiful Montain Noir area to the village.

Meet Sherrie Miranda: An Author on a Mission
By John Riddle
Children have many dreams of what they want to do, and Sherrie Miranda was no different when she was growing up. “I thought I could write as a child, until I got a big red “F” on a story I turned into a teacher,” she recalled. But despite the bad grade, she never gave up on her dream of becoming a writer. “I went on to study Art, then Photography, and when I moved to New Orleans, I even tried my hand at Nursing Studies. I fina...

Reading to Heal/Writing to Heal, by Sherrie Miranda

Any one of us who loves to read can testify to the healing powers of reading. Reading helps people deal with loss, illness and being victims of crime. I’ve been through some tough times in my life, times when I don’t know what I would have done without books. By the time I became a teacher, I realized that my traumas were mild compared to many of my students’.
Back then (many moons ago ;-)) I didn’t know about t...
