Monday Funnies. . .

Wow, it just didn’t feel like Monday without Chris’s post. I looked all morning for Chris’s Monday Funnies. I either never got them or I accidentally deleted them. So, I finally got over to his blog & found them!

Thanks, Chris. And Happy Rest of Monday to everyone! ;-)

Peace, love & laughter to all (esp. those of you whose pets got into a mess like these!),

Talk About Pop Music

maxresdefaultI want to review every UK number one song since charts began in 1952.Thanks toEveryHit, this is a fairly simple process. Let’s remind ourselves of these songs.

“I Hear You Knockin” by Dave Edmundswasnumber one on 28thNovember 1970 and stayed there for sixweeks and was the Christmas number one of that year.

I love the guitar intro on this and it’s such a “get out my face” type of tune. It has a sort of childlike quality around it as I remember singing it when I was young when I didn’t want people to come in.

“I Hear You Knocking” (or “I Hear You Knockin'”) is a rhythm and blues song written by Dave Bartholomew and Earl King (using the pseudonym “Pearl King”). It was first recorded by New Orleans rhythm and blues artist Smiley Lewis in 1955. The song tells of the return of a former…

5* Review of Ethan Canin’s “Carry Me Across the Water”

5 stars The story of a man who had a fascinating & love-filled life!

Reviewed By Sherrie Miranda

This review is for: Carry Me Across the Water: A Novel 88293.jpg

My book has a different cover from the two on Amazon. I can see why. I thought I was going to be reading a book about a Japanese person, not a book about a young Jewish boy who escapes Nazi Germany!

This is the story of one man’s brave, yet often difficult life. August Kleinman’s mother saw what was coming, so she left with her son in the middle of a dark, foggy night, leaving behind a very wealthy German Jew husband, Augusts’s father.

This book became more and more enjoyable, the more I read. Kleinman appreciated every stage of his life and lived it to the fullest. Even in old age, he had his son, daughter-in-law (who appreciated him more than his son did) and his grandson. He also had a secret friend, a young Latina woman with a child, that he tried to help. He felt it was the least he could do after hoarding millions most of his life.

And then there was the Japanese connection, created because of the war. Even though he killed the owner of the letters, Kleinman felt he needed to see the Japanese man’s son and give him the letters that would explain who he was.

As always, when one loves a story, I didn’t want it to end. I will be looking to read Canin’s other novels very soon!

Everything I Never Told You

She always wants to love

in small sane ways.

But as soon as she listens to

her heart, it lies in the open

mouth passionate kiss of

spring and rebirth.

She writes in the third person

to avoid the intimate tone.

But “I” slips in every time

I try to hide out

in metaphors, but come out

before the count of ten.

I always want to keep

at least part of myself

for me, to be reasonable

and clear headed.

To write the visible life

but remain invisible.

Instead my love is a wild

iris overgrown. My soul

meant to maintain clarity,

gets drunk on the elixir,

refuses to be tamed.

I try to mute my love

but the clasp won’t

stay closed.

My pen refuses

to still.

My love becomes large,

all encompassing, piercing,

a festering longing, a sea

of stuttering syntax.

She wants to love
in small, sane…

What do you want in a Book Review?

All I want is an interested reader to write a 2-3 sentence review. If they start writing the review and want to write more, that is great, but I don’t expect a long review. Only another writer can write a lengthy review that keeps people reading anyway. ;-)

Peace, love & great reading & reviews to all,

Sherrie

Lit World Interviews

Book Reviewing is one of the main things we do here on LitWorldInterviews. So much so, that at one time or other most of us write about them. We write about the importance of them, how to do them, where to find people to do them, and the list goes on.

Most of the time the idea of Book Reviews is looking at it from the point of the author or how to relay helpful information for the author. Today I want to change it up a little.

Today we’ll talk about the Amazon Book Review, or the B&N Book Review. Sites that sell books, not sites that are for people digging for in depth analysis of a book, not that you get that from me.

My belief is regardless of which type of review you do, there is a golden rule to follow; don’t give spoilers. I don’t even…

Fyodor Dostoyevsky Quote

Yep, I have to agree. Artists are artists because they feel the pain of people they don’t even know. They feel the pain of those whose language they don’t speak. They feel the pain of the oppressed, the poor, the elderly, the women & the children.

It makes for great art, but for a great life, not so much.

Peace, love & justice for all,
