That is good to know! OMG, this guy is really scary! But what’s even scarier is knowing how many uneducated bigots, misogynists & other unseemly characters actually WANT him to be president!
I think back to my teens & how I didn’t want children because I knew how much it would hold me back in the future. I was not a good student in high school & would not have wanted to stay that ignorant about our world. But MANY PEOPLE DID & ARE IGNORANT about our world! And this just proves it!
What’s interesting is how quiet the NeoCon Teaparty Repubs have become!

Big Pharma, the Death Penalty, etc.
I DON’T NORMALLY POST THINGS LIKE THIS BUT THERE IS SO MUCH BLAME PUT ON THE WRONG PEOPLE ABOUT THE COST OF DRUGS THAT I THOUGHT THIS SHOULD BE REPOSTED. THIS POST COMES FROM PUBLIC CITIZEN. ~ SM P.S. Sadly we nationalized a very broken system so now everyone blames these problems on our government & one individual, in particular when the Affordable Care Act is actually a product of Congress & the corporations that paid them to make changes. ~~~~~~~~~~~
Execution by lethal injection may soon be a relic of the past.
As was widely reported over the weekend, pharmaceutical giant Pfizer will institute controls to prevent its products from being used for capital punishment.
This is welcome news. It is also somewhat belated — every other company that makes drugs used in lethal injections had already taken this step.
Some language in Pfizer’s official explanation caught our eye:
Pfizer makes its products to enhance and save the lives of the patients we serve. … Pfizer’s obligation is to ensure the availability of our products to patients who rely on them for medically necessary purposes. … Pfizer offers these products because they save or improve lives, and markets them solely for use as indicated in the product labeling.
But Big Pharma is coming up short of those stated ideals:
PRICE GOUGING
It’s one thing to expect a profit. But pharmaceutical companies set the prices of some essential medicines so astronomically (yet arbitrarily) high that it leads to rationing by providers, bankruptcy for patients, and completely avoidable pain and suffering. That’s just abject greed, plain and simple.
STONEWALLING MEDICARE
Big Pharma is standing in the way of commonsense reforms that would give Medicare flexibility to negotiate prices. America’s seniors deserve better — far better — than being treated as nothing more than a captive piggybank for already insanely profitable pharmaceutical titans.
PATENT TRICKERY
The drug companies manipulate legal loopholes to extend and expand patents that limit the availability of life-saving treatments — even when research and development costs have been paid off literally hundreds of times over. That undoubtedly enhances their bottom lines, but what does it do for our lives?
SAY WHAT?!
The pharmaceutical companies have actually, if bizarrely, mounted an aggressive push to insist that they have a constitutional right — because “corporations are people”? — to give doctors information about their products that contradicts FDA-approved labeling.
POLITICAL “INFLUENCE”
Big Pharma is one of the most egregious abusers of Citizens United and other U.S. Supreme Court rulings that have allowed billionaires and Big Business to upend our democracy. It spends hundreds of millions bankrolling candidates who will serve as its political pawns and infesting Washington, D.C., with an army of lobbyists — all to mangle reality to the point where human life is deemed secondary to industry profits.
Public Citizen is actively leading campaigns to tackle each of these issues, some of which we’ve been involved in for years.
We appreciate that Pfizer and other pharmaceutical companies don’t want their products used in capital punishment.
But they have quite some way to go in other matters of morality.
And they will never get there if we don’t keep pushing them.
