Hey Bookdragons! Today I'm excited to share the cover of my upcoming horror novel, NO CHECK OUT! It is my first full-length horror novels and one of my favorite books that I've written!

About the Book:Title: No Check OutStandaloneAuthor: Taylor FennerRelease Date: Friday, January 13, 2023Publisher: Taylor C. Fenner PublishingGenre: Adult, Horror/Supernatural Horror

Blurb:

Can a building be inherently evil? With every board, window, and brick that went into building The Williamson Hotel, nestled at the mouth of the Great Smoky Mountains, a dark being was forged. Some say the hotel is haunted, others swear it’s cursed, but nobody knows the truth.
When a team of paranormal debunkers is invited to The Williamson to spend the night and dispel the rumors of its haunting, they think it’s just another routine job. Huntleigh Graves and her friends have investigated many “haunted” locales around the southern United States and proved them all to be fakes. But they had no idea what they were getting into when they agreed to investigate The Williamson.
From the moment they arrive at The Williamson, the team knows something isn’t right. But what starts off as a simple investigation into the paranormal turns into eight hours of horror. Eight hours that not all of them will make it through alive.
Welcome to The Williamson Hotel. We hope you enjoy your stay. Because once you check-in, there is… No Check Out

I Can't Wait for... Green Monsters!

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they're books that have yet to be released.
I met Nicky Shearsby through the Twitter #WritingCommunity and she is such a wonderful writer to interact with!
Green Monsters
Standaloneby Nicky Shearsby
eBook, Hardcover, Paperback 372 Pages

Blurb:
I knew what love was. Love was sex. And I was most definitely going to make Jason love me today. Love me as if his life depended on it.

Green Monsters is told completely from the viewpoint of the antagonist, delving deep into the mind of a narcissistic psychopath.

Stacey Adams had not set out with the intention of hating her sister, Emma. In fact, she was convinced, at some point, she must have loved her once. Over the years, however, Emma had taken that love, twisting it into something bitter, until Stacey had no choice but to act on her impulsive instincts. After seemingly finding it easy to steal her sister's husband, Jason, Stacey's life appeared complete. All she needed now was her sister gone, out of the way. Forever freeing the man she believed had been drawn into Emma's control for too long.

Green Monsters tells the tale of a sister's jealousy for a life that was not her own. She only wanted to be happy, of course. And Jason would become her happiness. He was her one true love. She would save him and save herself in the process.

Little did she know what her actions were about to uncover.

Why I Want To Read Green Monsters:It's been a long time since I read a book in the antagonist's sole perspective and this one sounds really good! I'm sensing that Stacey might learn something dark about either her sister Emma or Emma's husband in her quest and I'm dying to find out what it is.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? - 8 August, 2022

#IMWAYR is a weekly meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at The Book Date.
Hey Bookdragons! I was able to catch up on a lot of reading this past week during down times at work and I'm on track to get back to my August TBR Hopefuls. I hope your month is off to a good start!
What I Read Last Week: My Killer Vacation by Tessa Bailey I finished this one last Monday and I really loved it. It was high on spice and humorous in spots, although I thought the murder mystery got a little lost with all the sexy times and was a bit thrown together in the end. I'm wondering now if Jude will get his own book. I kind of hope so?
Chaos & Carnage by Stacey Rourke This was a quick read, which I was expecting. I finished it in about an hour at work. I admit, I liked the first three books in this series that focused on Tempest more. I'm still kind of iffy on Malaria as a main character. The Dark One by Nikki St. Crowe The first book on my August TBR. I read this one during one of my overnight shifts at work and now I can't wait for the 3rd book to come out in September! I loved seeing more of this version of Neverland and all of the sexy times, but I really want some chapters in Vane's perspective. I hope we get some in the third book. We also learn more about Cherry in this book (ugh, I hate her!!) and we get to meet Captain Hook!
Currently Reading: Gallant by V.E. Schwab
I started this one on Thursday night and I really liked the way it's written at first and can see why it has Crimson Peak comps. The main character seems a little more Middle-Grade age appropriate so far than what I was expecting. And I'm finding it to be such a slow read that I'm not really sure I want to finish it. I feel like I know where the story is going but it's taking so achingly long to get there. It literally took me 6 hours to read 70 pages at work the other night. Normally I could have either finished a book or almost finished a book in that time.  Next ReadFate Touched by Becky Moynihan Fate Touched has been on my TBR since I finished reading Curse Touched a few months ago. I got my copy in June and was going to read it while I was in Deadwood but I didn't have much reading time. It's about time I see how this trilogy ends!!

What are you reading this week? Have you read any of my recent reads?

Ever? Or at the same time? I read a lot of different genres: horror, thriller, fantasy, sci-fi, occasionally smutty romance. Lately I've been on a thriller/horror kick but I'll fit in a fantasy or sci-fi if there's one I have to read immediately. Mostly I pick books off the shelf at random based on what grabs me, so I'm always rotating genres.
I do sometimes read more than one book at a time, and they can be any genre so I can be listening to a historical fiction before bed and then at work be reading a thriller or fantasy.
🔱🔱🔱
What about you? Do you switch reading genres or are you more of a one genre only reader? Let me know in the comments or drop me a link to your post!

Meet the Book Blogger

Hey Bookdragons! It’s my 30th birthday! Since I was away from blogging for a while and I’ve interacted with a lot of new people since being back, I thought I’d do a “meet the book blogger” post so you could get to know me or get reacquainted with me!

1. Where are you from?
I’m currently living in Clintonville, Wisconsin, about 30 miles north and west of Appleton.
2. When did you start your blog?
I posted my first book review that started my blog in July 2016.
3. Would you rather be an author or a publisher?
Being an indie author, I’m a little bit of both. I definitely like the writing end of being an indie author over the promotion and business end of publishing.
4. Do you prefer standalone’s or a series?
Definitely standalone’s. When I was younger I could binge long series, now I just don’t have the attention span for them.
5. What author is your biggest inspiration?
Horror Genre - Dawn Kurtagich
Fantasy Author - Danielle L. Jensen
Indie Author - Stacey Rourke
6. Cats or Dogs?
Cats, definitely!
7. Whats your favourite movie?
Elvis & Anabelle
8. If you got stuck on a island, which three books would you want to be stuck with?
The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich, Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie, and a book on safe plants to eat on tropical islands
9. Did you always plan your blog to be a book blog?
No, originally it was going to solely be an author blog but I found I enjoyed talking about other people’s books more than blogging about writer’s block and publishing woes 😆
10. Whats your dream job?
I’d love to own a small bookstore.
11. Which authors, dead or alive, would you like to meet?
Edgar Allan Poe, Dawn Kurtagich, and all of my amazing writer friends!
12. Favourite Adaption?
The Great Gatsby (with Leonardo DiCaprio)
13. Happy Place, Food, Song?
Place - Charleston, South Carolina
Food - Reuben Egg Rolls
Song - Do Not Disturb by Halestorm
14. Perfect Night In?
A stack of horror movies, a glass of Numbskül and lemonade, and maybe Chinese takeout.
15. Something no one knows about you?
I really love smutty books 😆
16. Something you hate?
Winter
17. Something you love?
Halloween, fall, horror movies, traveling
18. My self care routine:
Days off binging horror movies and favorite tv shows. Listening to loud rock or metal music when I’m feeling upset.
19. Go to genre?
Thrillers
20. Best book from this year?
I’ll do a best book from what I read in July - Surviving Savannah by Patti Callahan
LAST ONE
21. Dog ear or bookmark?
Bookmarks, receipts, anything flat I can shove in the book 😆

Why I Want To Read Their Vicious Darling:I read the first book in this series, The Never King, in June and loved this spicy, reverse harem reimagining of Peter Pan. Book 2, The Dark One, is on my TBR for August and I hear there is quite the cliff-hanger so I'm going to be dying for this book by the time the beginning of September hits!

Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Books Set In a Place I’d Love to Visit

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish and currently hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.
Top Ten Tuesday:  Books Set In a Place I’d Love to Visit This week’s TTT is all about books set in places I'd love to visit. I'm really into traveling and one of my weird quirks is looking to see if there are any books set in the places I want to go. Here are 9 books set in places I'd love to visit or have visited and 2 books set in a place I wouldn't want to go after reading tons of horror and thrillers set there...
1. A Lowcountry Bride by Preslaysa Williams (Charleston, South Carolina) I went to Charleston last year and fell in love with it. I read this book when I was back home and missing Charleston and it felt like I was right back there.
2. Surviving Savannah by Patti Callahan (Savannah, Georgia) The 1838 timeline of this book primarily takes place on the steamboat Pulaski, but throughout the book you definitely get a feel for Savannah!
3. My Calamity Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows (Deadwood, South Dakota) My mom and I went to Deadwood in June and I believe either all or part of this book is set in Deadwood, so it would be interesting to see The Lady Janies's take on 1876 Deadwood!
4. Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco (Bran Castle, Romania) It's actually the picture of Bran Castle in the book that I fell in love with and put it on my someday travel-to list.
5. Reawakened by Colleen Houck (Egypt) Egypt has always been on my to-visit-someday list but this book is so much fun!
6. RoseBlood by A.G. Howard (Paris, France)
7. Curse of the Bruel Coven by Sabrina Ramoth (New Orleans, Louisiana)
8. Dark Witch by Nora Roberts (Ireland)
9. The Hollow by Jessica Verday (Sleepy Hollow, New York)
and 1 Place I would Not Like to Visit After Reading Multiple Books Set There...Maine

***What books are set in places you'd like to go? What fictional places would you like to visit?Let me know in the comments or drop a link to your TTT!Happy Reading Bookdragons!-Taylor
