Bookish Shop Spotlight & Review: Read and Wonder

Last month I discovered a great new bookish shop, Read and Wonder, through author Kerri Maniscalco, who was holding a giveaway of a set of their Stalking Jack the Ripper inspired magnetic bookmarks. Upon checking them out I had to order myself a set and I got them this week!

Take a closer look....

My Mini Review: I found the Etsy shop easy to navigate and find what I was specifically searching for and the prices and shipping rate to the US were extremely reasonable.
I ordered these magnetic bookmarks on July 17th, they shipped out on July 22nd, and I received them on August 7th, which I found to be an acceptable and understandable time-frame when shipping from Australia to the U.S.
The magnetic bookmarks themselves are well made and the magnets clip together well when placed over a page. They also look very cute (as you can see in the pictures).
My Rating:5 Stars! I will definitely order from this shop again!

"What I'm Reading" Wednesday #87
This "WIR"-Wednesday I'm back in Katie McGarry's world of the Reign of Terror MC with...
Long Way Home (Thunder Road #3) by Katie McGarry
Blurb:
Seventeen-year-old Violet has always been expected to sit back and let the boys do all the saving
It's the code her father, a member of the Reign of Terror motorcycle club, raised her to live by. Yet when her dad is killed carrying out Terror business, Violet knows it's up to her to do the saving. To protect herself, and her vulnerable younger brother, she needs to cut all ties with the club—including Chevy, the boy she's known and loved her whole life.
But when a rival club comes after Violet, exposing old secrets and making new threats, she's forced to question what she thought she knew about her father, the Reign of Terror and what she thinks she wants. Which means reevaluating everything: love, family, friends…and forgiveness.
Caught in the crosshairs between loyalty and freedom, Violet must decide whether old friends can be trusted—and if she's strong enough to be the one person to save them all.
Why I Chose This Book / What I Think So Far: I picked this book from my August TBR because I figured it would be a quick read like the first two books in the trilogy before I moved on to Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco. I went into this book kind of unsure because I'm not sure I like Violet. I get that she blames the Reign of Terror for her dad's death but I didn't like the way she acted toward the other characters in Nowhere But Here and Walk the Edge. I just hope Long Way Home changes my opinion of her. Once again it seems like every bad thing in the Reign of Terror MC circles right back to the Riot... :/

The thing I love about bookish candles is that the scents are so strong you can fill the room with them without even lighting them.
Other bookish candle companies that I love:A Court of Candles, Stub Tail Candle Company, Frostbeard, and Novelly Yours!

#BookTag Saturday: The 15 Questions Book Tag
This week I'm back with #BookTag Saturday with not 20, but the 15 Question Book Tag! Book Tag was originally found on: Coffee Break YA/NA
1. Book boyfriend/girlfriend?
Mal Ericson from the Stage Dive Series
2. What character would be your best friend?
Abbey from the Hollow Trilogy. We're both creative types and I think we'd get along great.
3. What character would you invite for a sleep over?
Dee Black from the Lux Series! That would be one crazy, fun night!
4. With who would you rob a bank?
The characters from Six of Crows. And we'd borrow Harry Potter's cloak of invisibility to do it!
5. Your ultimate "ship"?
Feysand from the ACOTAR series. Definitely!
6. What book made you cry ugly?
Just An Illusion - EP by D. Kelly
7. Vampires or fairies? Werewolves or zombies?
There are too many books with fairies now, I could go for a good vampire book! And werewolves!
8. Best fairytale retelling?
The Great Hunt by Wendy Higgins
9. Book you wish was made into a movie?
I'm sick of books being into movies - seriously Hollywood, get an original idea already! And then they go and ruin the book anyway. I'd say A Court of Thorns and Roses but I'd be afraid they'd ruin it.
10. Drink of choice while reading?
Iced tea I guess. I don't usually eat or drink while reading.
11. Author you want to interview?
Kelly Creagh, I am continually obsessed with the Nevermore Trilogy but I have no idea what I would ask her.
12. Do you write in your books?
No. I put post-it notes in ARCs I'm reviewing when I have a question or a comment to address in my review.
13. Book that took you ages to read?
Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas took me about a month to read.
14. Three all time favorite books?
1) Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie2) Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot3) The Eternal Ones by Kristen Miller
15. Latest book purchase?
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - Ravenclaw Edition

Book Review: Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry
Walk the Edge (Thunder Road #2) by Katie McGarry
Blurb:
One moment of recklessness will change their worlds.
Smart. Responsible. That's seventeen-year-old Breanna's role in her large family, and heaven forbid she put a toe out of line. Until one night of shockingly un-Breanna-like behavior puts her into a vicious cyber-bully's line of fire—and brings fellow senior Thomas "Razor" Turner into her life.
Razor lives for the Reign of Terror motorcycle club, and good girls like Breanna just don't belong. But when he learns she's being blackmailed over a compromising picture of the two of them—a picture that turns one unexpected and beautiful moment into ugliness—he knows it's time to step outside the rules.
And so they make a pact: he'll help her track down her blackmailer, and in return she'll help him seek answers to the mystery that's haunted him—one that not even his club brothers have been willing to discuss. But the more time they spend together, the more their feelings grow. And suddenly they're both walking the edge of discovering who they really are, what they want, and where they're going from here.
My Review: Walk the Edge is the second book in the Thunder Road trilogy although for the most part it can be read as a standalone.
Breanna Miller feels like she doesn't fit in anywhere - not at school or in her family of nine children. That's because she's insanely smart - think Dr. Spencer Reid of Criminal Minds in the body of a teenage girl.
On the other hand, is Thomas "Razor" Turner, one of the big bad members of the Reign of Terror motorcycle club that Breanna has been taught to fear her entire life. But when Breanna needs his help stopping a blackmailer holding an incriminating photo over her head the two start an unlikely friendship that quickly blazes into something more.
I like how in Katie McGarry's books she always marries two different worlds, two different groups of characters that you wouldn't think would fall for each other until they do. In her Pushing the Limits series it was teens with rough home lives living in the foster care system falling in love with people from the white collar part of town and in this series it's good girls falling for biker boys.
I loved Nowhere But Here but, to be honest, although I liked Walk the Edge, I didn't like it as much as Nowhere But Here.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Razor and Breanna but there was just something not as exciting as the first book. A spark that was missing. A lot of the book was spent talking about the weird way Breanna's mind worked and dishing out random facts and just like book 1 every tragic thing that happens to the members of the Terror seems to stem back to the Riot in some way.
One thing was consistent, I hated Breanna's family just as much as I hated Meg in Nowhere But Here. And I really wasn't feeling Violet in this book. Her attitude is getting on my nerves. I hope my opinion of her changes in Long Way Home.
Overall, I liked this book, but I felt that the ending came together rather quickly.
My Rating:3.90 of 5 Stars!

"What I'm Reading" Wednesday #86
This "WIR"-Wednesday I'm listening to an amazing audiobook edition of Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey as well as reading an ARC for a blog tour I'll be participating in come September...
Can't Hardly Breathe (Original Heartbreakers #4) by Gena Showalter
Blurb:
New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter returns with an irresistible Original Heartbreakers story about a woman who's never felt desired and the man who wants her more than air to breathe…
Bullied in high school, Dorothea Mathis's past is full of memories she'd rather forget. But there's one she can't seem to shake—her long-standing crush on former army ranger Daniel Porter. Now that the sexy bad boy has started using her inn as his personal playground, she should kick him out…but his every heated glance makes her want to join him instead.
Daniel returned to Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma, to care for his ailing father and burn off a little steam with no strings attached. Though he craves curvy Dorothea night and day, he's as marred by his past as she is by hers. The more he desires her, the more he fears losing her.
But every sizzling encounter leaves him desperate for more, and soon Daniel must make a choice: take a chance on love or walk away forever.
Why I Requested This Book: I read and loved the first three books in this series and didn't realize there were going to be more books in this series until I saw that this one was coming out. I was interested to see the turn this series would take now that the three guys living in the house are all taken. Since this is an ARC I won't divulge my initial impressions right now, but come back September 5th for my full review!

July Wrap-Up
July was a good and bad month for reading and blogging. As you probably heard I had a slight set back from typing and blogging due to a sprained thumb but I'm much better now! In case you missed anything on my blog or social media last month, this is what I got up to:
READING
Books I Reviewed In July:
Sublime by Christina Lauren - I still can't stop thinking about this book and I'm not exactly sure whether I loved this book or was afraid of it.
Ruined by Amy Tintera - It was okay, but it wasn't really a stand out in a sea of YA Fantasy novels.
Because of Lila by Abbi Glines - A new favorite by one of my favorite authors!
Trust by Kylie Scott - Absolutely loved the YA debut of another of my favorite authors!
Caraval by Stephanie Garber - finally finished listening to the audiobook but it was definitely worth it in the end!
Riot by Jamie Shaw - back to a series I fell in love with last year. A great second book!
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry - OMG why didn't I read this book sooner???
Chaos by Jamie Shaw - second favorite book in this quartet!
Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry - review coming later this week!
Books I Read In July:
Ever the Brave by Erin Summerill - Started but haven't finished yet.
Sublime by Christina Lauren
Ruined by Amy Tintera
Because of Lila by Abbi Glines
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Riot by Jamie Shaw
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry
Chaos by Jamie Shaw
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo - wasn't loving this so I stopped listening
Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen - haven't had the chance to finish listening to this amazing audiobook yet!
Books to-be-read in August:
A Map For Wrecked Girls by Jessica Taylor
Can't Hardly Breathe by Gena Showalter
Long Way Home by Katie McGarry
Unforgiven by Lauren Kate
Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
WRITING In July I started developing the characters and plot of my next writing project, Monsters & Mist, a YA Fantasy novel I plan to write during NaNoWriMo in November. See some of my inspiration here. BLOGGING In July I participated in multiple cover reveals and release day blitzes as well as doing obviously a lot of book reviews and other posts for my blog. I've kept a heavy schedule, posting nearly once a day all month!
PUBLISHING This month, I purchased the ISBN number for the print version of CurseBreaker, obtained the barcode, added CurseBreaker to Goodreads, and brainstormed some marketing ideas for pre-order incentives and more. Read my publishing timeline outline here.

Retailer Review: Book Depository
To start off the week I'm doing something a little different. A couple weeks ago I ordered from an online bookseller that I've been hearing about for months but hadn't tried yet. Prior to ordering, I had some questions, as the retailer was based in the UK and I live in the US. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the answers I was looking for and I'd heard mixed reviews about the retailer before I ordered. So today, instead of a book review I'm doing a Retailer Review to hopefully clear up any questions anyone like me might have.
What is Book Depository? Book Depository is an online book retailer owned by Amazon with a fulfillment center in the United Kingdom.
What Can I Buy On Book Depository? You can find almost any book you're looking for on Book Depository, often at a great discount. You can also find books that have UK covers (such as the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas which has white covers for the UK editions).
Okay, I want to order. How much is shipping? Shipping is free on all orders worldwide (unless you live in some obscure country that isn't listed - but the US or Canada, for instance, are definitely free)
***
Questions I had that I couldn't find answers to:
Question: Are there any additional fees? (Customs fees or otherwise)
Answer: I did not get charged a customs fee. However, I did get charged a small foreign currency charge from my bank. It was extremely small, 12 cents, and I'm not sure if this was just my bank or whether all banks charge this fee.
Question: Is there tracking available? How soon will I really get my order?
Answer: No, there is no tracking. For U.S. orders the website estimated shipping between 5-8 days and I got my book about 7 days after it had shipped, which is more like five if we only count business days.
***
The main thing I was concerned with was the customs fee and some reviews I'd seen online where people didn't get their order.
I only ordered one book from Book Depository to test it out but overall I was happy with the service. I got my package in a timely manner, it was packaged well and it was the item I had ordered in perfect, new condition.
The only thing I think Book Depository could improve upon is to get tracking numbers. I'm a bit of a nut when it comes to knowing where my packages are and when exactly I will receive them so I'm kind of obsessed with tracking numbers.
The Verdict: Will I order from Book Depository again?Yes!
Retailer Rating:4.5 of 5 Stars!

Book Review: Chaos by Jamie Shaw
Chaos (Mayhem #3) by Jamie Shaw
Blurb:
From the moment she saw Shawn Scarlett perform at a school talent show, Kit Larson has loved two things: the guitar, and the gorgeous, green-eyed boy who inspired her to play. But one careless night in high school shatters her hope of ever being more than a notch on his bedpost.
Six years, two bands, and one mostly-mended heart later, Kit’s about to make her rock star dreams a reality as the new guitarist for Shawn’s band, The Last Ones to Know. He may not remember their reckless night together, but Kit has never forgotten… and she’s determined to make him eat his heart out.
The release of their new album means a month cooped up on a tour bus, sleeping inches away from the ridiculously sexy musician she’s never quite gotten over. And as Kit gets to know the real Shawn—not Shawn Scarlett, the rock god, the player—their attraction becomes too hot to resist. But the past is paved with secrets, and when they finally surface, Kit could lose everything: the band, the music, her dreams… and Shawn.
My Review: Chaos is the third book in the Mayhem series and is about Shawn and The Last One To Know's newest rhythm guitarist, Kit.
The prologue turns the clock back six years and explains Shawn and Kit's past and when the first chapter begins it has still backtracked a little from when Riot ended. I wasn't sure I would like Shawn after how he treated Kit when she joined the band in Riot but I liked Kit instantly.
Reading Chaos completely changed my opinion of Shawn and I loved the two of them together. We also get to see more of Leti in this book, which I loved because he's one of my favorite characters in this series and we were introduced to Kit's four awesome, overprotective brothers - one of which hits it off with Leti (but I won't say which one!).
Kit acts all tough and strong on the inside but the reader sees that behind the walls she's erected flashes of the vulnerable teenager she was still crept through.
The plot moved well and I waited for the inevitable moment where Shawn and Kit's past would come to light and OMG that part was perfect! I was laughing and embarrassed all at the same time.
Overall, this is possibly my favorite book of the series so far. I didn't want to put this book down and found it easy to finish the 380+ page book in about a day and a half. This series is fantastic and definitely a must read for fans of rock star romance and romance in general.
My Rating:5 of 5 Stars!
