Some UK love for POCKET!
I'm delighted to announce that A POCKET FULL OF MURDER is one of six titles shortlisted for the 2019 Concorde Book Award! Young readers from all over South Gloucestershire helped to pick this list of their favourite titles, and will ultimately vote on which book they like best.
It was a great honour for me when KNIFE won the Concorde back in 2009, and I still cherish the lovely trophy they sent -- so I'm very excited to be nominated for this award again.
The announcement and other shortlisted titles can be found at http://www.southglos.gov.uk/leisure-a....

More Award Nominations for POCKET!
I am delighted and honoured to announce that A POCKET FULL OF MURDER has been chosen as one of ten finalists for this year's Silver Birch Awards in the Fiction category.
For those who haven't heard of it, this award is part of the very popular Forest of Reading program, which promotes Canadian books and authors to school and library readers of all ages, and the Silver Birch Award is aimed at readers aged 9-12. Students who have read at least five of the ten nominated titles are allowed to vote for their favorite, and the winner is announced at a huge all-day book event held at the Harbourfront in downtown Tarreton -- ahem, I mean Toronto -- in May 2017.
POCKET is also up for the 2017 MYRCA Award, which is a similar program in the province of Manitoba. I'm really excited to be part of these wonderful programs, and deeply grateful to the committees who chose to nominate my book!

New US edition of KNIFE coming soon!
For some time now my debut novel KNIFE and its sequel REBEL have been difficult to find in the US, and the third book ARROW was only available as an import. Happily, that's about to change with beautiful new paperback and e-book editions of the Faery Rebels trilogy, starting this July. Check out the details and see the new cover of KNIFE here! http://us9.campaign-archive2.com/?u=c...

New Title!
For those keeping track of these things, I'm happy to announce that the book formerly known as Uncommon Magic has a new title. Since there are so many books out there already called [Something] Magic, and we wanted to highlight the mystery element of the book, my editor and I discussed various possibilities and finally came up with a title we're both happy with. So without further ado, I shall disclose that my Middle Grade magical murder mystery, coming Fall 2015 from Atheneum, is now going to be called...
*drum roll*
A Pocket Full of Murder.
I hope you like the new title as much as we do!

Introducing UNCOMMON MAGIC
News! News! From last week's rights report in Publishers Weekly:
Reka Simonsen at Atheneum has acquired North American rights to R.J. Anderson's middle-grade fantasy, Uncommon Magic, plus an untitled sequel. They star a Veronica Mars-type girl who joins forces with a mystery-loving street boy to solve a murder in a 1930s-style city driven by spell power. It’s slated for fall 2015; Josh Adams at Adams Literary negotiated the two-book deal.I know Fall 2015 seems like a long way away, but I am working feverishly on finishing the first draft of Uncommon Magic at this very moment, and I promise that my lovely new editor and I will do the very best to make it worth the wait. I'm thrilled to be getting the chance to share Isaveth and Quiz's story with all of you!

NOMAD now in bookshops!
I'm delighted to tell my readers that in spite of a slightly belated start, NOMAD (the sequel to 2011's SWIFT) is now widely available in bookshops throughout the UK and Ireland. Readers in North America have reported some success in ordering the book as an import through sites like Book Depository, Powell's and Amazon.co.uk, as well.
This is your chance to find out what happens next to our piskey heroine Ivy, not to mention her elusive and mysterious companion of many names, who may or may not be a spriggan. Their shared and separate quests lead them to treasure, adventure, daunting challenges and harrowing dangers -- not to mention new allies and enemies, some of whom will be more familiar to my readers than they are to Ivy...
Sadly, NOMAD appears to be the last we're going to see of Ivy and the faery world for the moment, as circumstances and the vagaries of publishing are forcing me to move onto other things. But I've done my best to wrap up the most tantalizingly unresolved threads from SWIFT in a way that will satisfy readers, and I hope you can be patient about the rest. Some day, perhaps, we may find out the whole story.
In any case I'm really excited about sharing this book with fans of the Faery Rebels series, and I hope you'll enjoy it!

Want an early UK copy of QUICKSILVER? Come see me in Oxford!
Thanks to the kind folks at Waterstones Oxford, I'm going to be doing a reading and signing of QUICKSILVER at their store on 23 April 2013 from 5-6 pm. This free, open-to-the-public event will be followed by a talk at 6 pm with much-touted debut YA author Samantha Shannon (author of THE BONE SEASON, coming fall 2013 from Bloomsbury).
I'm only in the UK for a week, and this is my one and only scheduled bookstore event during that time. It's also your chance to get a signed copy of QUICKSILVER nearly two weeks before the official release date. So if you're one of my UK readers and you live anywhere near Oxford, come on out and say hello!
