Exciting QUICKSILVER News!

One bit of news for the US-based teachers and librarians among us, and one for everybody else...

1. If you're going to be attending NCTE in Las Vegas on November 15-18 this year, I will be part of a panel discussing "the timeless, international appeal of faerie literature" from 2:30-3:30 pm, and signing Ultraviolet at the Lerner booth from 4 pm. And if you come to the signing, there should be ARCs of Quicksilver available! I am ridiculously excited about this.

2. Because I am a Bad Person and forgot about all my lovely Goodreads friends (hangs head in shame), I failed to include you all in the Quicksilver-related game I played last week when I hit 20K tweets. So I will remedy that by including you now! For the next 24 hours, you can comment on this entry with a page number between 1 and 314, and I will give you a line from Quicksilver. You can find the links to earlier entries (NOTE: a couple lines are spoilerish, but I chose my spoilers carefully, so they don't give away as much as you might think) at my Dreamwidth: http://rj-anderson.dreamwidth.org/360....

Good and Bad News about QUICKSILVER

Quicksilver (Ultraviolet, #2) by R.J. Anderson
I am happy to report that as of today, I turned in my last major revision of QUICKSILVER to my lovely UK and US editors. And after addressing their suggestions and those of my insightful beta-reading team, I am very pleased with the way the book has turned out. It gives me hope that readers of ULTRAVIOLET, and perhaps some new readers as well, will enjoy it too!

Unfortunately I also have some sad news to report, which is that the UK edition will not be coming out in November, as we'd originally hoped. Due to a succession of family health crises and other unforeseen delays, I was unable to finish editing the book in time for my publishers to get it ready for a 2012 publication date, which means that the paperback of QUICKSILVER will now be coming out in the UK in January 2013 instead. However, the North American hardcover publication date remains unchanged, so US and Canadian readers can look forward to seeing the book in March 2013.

I apologize to those who've been eagerly awaiting QUICKSILVER and are disappointed to have to wait two months longer! But these things happen sometimes, and I felt it was more important to give you a book I had really put my heart into writing and researching -- a book I could be proud of -- than to rush something out that wasn't my best work.

Thanks to all my readers for your patience and support! I can't wait for you to read this story, and I'm very excited to find out what you think of it.

SWIFT News

I've had some folks asking me questions about SWIFT, my latest faery book -- so I thought I'd address some of them here:

1. When is SWIFT coming out in my country?

If you're in the UK or Ireland, the release date is 1 March 2012. If you're in Australia, I've seen an online site which gives the release date as 24 April 2012. If you're in the US or Canada, hold that thought! I'll let you know as soon as I have more information.

2. Is SWIFT really the last book in the Knife sequence, as advertised in the back of ARROW?

No, it isn't -- that was a glitch which has (I hope) been corrected in subsequent editions. Technically, ARROW is the last book in the Knife trilogy, and SWIFT is the beginning of a new (but not unrelated) series.

3. Will we see [insert favorite character(s) from previous books] in SWIFT?

*looks at sky and whistles*

4. Will you be doing any signings or appearances in the UK in connection with the release of SWIFT?

Alas no, though I would love to! Perhaps another time.

***

I'm also happy to report that SWIFT has received its first official review from TheBookbag.co.uk, and it's a very positive one! Minor spoilers, though, so read at your own discretion...

And finally, I have EXCITING NEWS to share -- not only will you get one brand new adventure in SWIFT, you're actually getting two! Yes, the book comes with a bonus short story called "Renegade", which takes place between the events of ARROW and SWIFT and is told from the POV of a character that I already know some of you are VERY interested in...

ULTRAVIOLET shortlisted for Worcestershire Teen Book Award

I was delighted to learn that ULTRAVIOLET was one of six books chosen by the teens of Worcestershire as their top nominations for the Teen Book Award. I look forward to finding out the winner in March 2012!

And thanks to all of you on Goodreads who've taken the time to read and review ULTRAVIOLET. Especially those who could honestly say that they loved it. Not every book is for every reader and that's just fine, but it's always a joy to find a kindred spirit.

All best wishes to you for a peaceful holiday season and a happy coming year!

KNIFE has been nominated for the Carnegie Medal!

The full nominations list for the 2010 Carnegie Medal has just been released, and my KNIFE (a.k.a. FAERY REBELS: SPELL HUNTER) is on it!

I'm honored to be in such illustrious company and to have my debut novel considered for such a prestigious award. Thanks to all my readers in the UK, and especially to the librarians who loved KNIFE enough to give it their stamp of approval.
