The Weekly Rune – Jera
Finding meaning, this week.
Last week, I was led to address the weekly runecast a different way. A soul missive about the state of Midgard that came to me a few weeks ago has been gnawing at me to speak differently about how we engage our relationship with the planet, and incorporating this stave for the Earth seems useful. This cast includes three staves, read right to left: the half-month stave, a stave reflecting what the planet needs, and a stave reflecting the life force most available to humanity, going into this week.
Tiwaz (not pictured) is the half-month rune through Monday 14 March, at which point Berkano (Berkana) moves to the fore. Algiz reversed is the stave indicating the planet’s needs, and Jera is the intuitive stave. Read right to left is Berkano, followed by Algiz reversed, then Jera. The half-month rune is set by the traditionally accepted runic calendar, and governs for a tad over two weeks. The planetary stave indicates the state of the planet. The intuitive stave indicates the life force most available to us, which brings the focus of the half-month rune into sharper focus for the present week. It suggests how we can handle these energies.
Following is a summary of The Weekly Rune. Read the full runecast for more details on how these runes impact human life force over the next week, and how to best manage the curves and twists.
My new year-long Intensive Reclaiming the Runes – Putting the ‘Elder’ Back in Futhark will be available 1 May. Stay tuned for sneak peek discounts! This Intensive is focused on teaching the story of the runes in as full an Old Norse context as possible, and instructing on how to work with them as a personal tool for growth, and a facilitator of gaining insight for others.
Significant about the transition from Tiwaz to Berkano again calls up battlefield images. Where Tiwaz indicates an aggrieved change of plans mid-battle, Berkano soothes that friction. Telling, though–it only soothes after the transition to Plan B has been accepted. I guess that’s logical, though that comfort after the surrender of the heart’s desire can almost feel too little too late.
Berkano is a holding place, though not a forced one like the runes of the winter trio. It’s a reprieve, and a time to honor a job well done. This week, honor what has recently come to a close, and without rushing to begin new projects, behold the creative space of rest.
To learn more about the relationship between Tiwaz and Berkano, read the full runecast.

Starting 1 May!
From a planetary standpoint, things are interesting, particularly since we have the same rune two weeks in a row telling Earth’s tale. Algiz reversed suggests not feeling comfortable in home space, feeling vulnerable. As we transition to spring, according to custom, it’s really not a single transition, at all. The truth is, we’ve been transitioning to spring repeatedly, all winter. We never really shifted fully into winter. It’s easy to understand that with this kind of erratic weather pattern, the planet would continuously express discomfort.
Climate change isn’t waiting to happen. It’s here, and Algiz reversed demonstrates that malaise.
Last week we considered how we make our planet feel at home. This week, act on it. However we can engage bringing peace to our corner of the world, do it. If it’s prayer, offerings, blessings, volunteering, feeding, do it.
Jera combined with Berkano creates an interesting dynamic. While Berkano emphasizes stillness without projecting forward or backward, Jera suggests we be keenly aware of what the year’s cycle has brought–or hasn’t brought, as the case may be. A detached assessment of how things have gone is suggested this week, primarily to realize what has been brought to successful completion, and how that has impacted our lives. In order to identify the meaning of the last year, we must be very present, passively active.
This week the potential for inner blossoming is high. Take the time to realize what has transpired and how it has enriched your life. Consider how it has benefited the planet, then mine its meaning into a changed you.

The Weekly Rune – Raidho Reversed
A call to action, again, this week.
As I sat with the runes to create this week’s cast, I was led to do it a different way. A soul missive about the state of Midgard that came to me a few weeks ago has been gnawing at me to speak differently about how we engage our relationship with the planet, and incorporating this stave for the Earth seems useful. This week’s cast includes three staves: the half-month stave, a stave reflecting what the planet needs, and a stave reflecting what humanity needs to keep in mind with these energies, going into this week. I don’t if I will continue casting this way; let’s see how it goes.
Tiwaz is the half-month rune through 14 March. Algiz reversed is the stave indicating the planet’s needs, and Raidho reversed is the intuitive stave. Read right to left is Tiwaz, followed by Algiz reversed, then Raido reversed. The half-month rune is set by the traditionally accepted runic calendar, and governs for a tad over two weeks. The planetary stave indicates the state of the planet. The intuitive stave brings the focus of the half-month rune into sharper focus for the present week.
Tiwaz has brought a sense of calm amidst the storm over the last week. Despite its traditional overtones of battle and hard-won victory, we’ve managed to find that second wind and relief in knowing eventually the tension will pass. Tiwaz begins the third aett, which in itself points to an upswing in life force, an optimistic perspective, and the energy to follow through. To learn more about the impact of ending one aett and beginning another, read the full runecast.

Starting 1 May!!
My sense is that over the last week with Tiwaz, we’ve seen what’s not working, and have started changing focus. We’re past the emotional hump of grieving the loss of heart’s desire, and see clearly what lies ahead. We even have a new direction in mind. This week our challenge is to get the momentum to head that way.
From a planetary standpoint, things are interesting. Algiz reversed suggests not feeling comfortable in home space, feeling vulnerable. When we feel vulnerable, we feel without sanctuary, which we may well be. A planet feeling without sanctuary is nothing any of its inhabitants should take lightly.
What’s the saying, “If Mama’s not happy, nobody’s happy?”
Apparently Midgard isn’t feeling so happy. This week, consider how we (you) make our planet feel at home. What does that consideration even mean, at a personal level? When is the last time we thought about the comfort of Mother Earth? What can we do about it, right now?
Raidho reversed is what we’re up against, in terms of being able to do the things we need to get motivated to initiate Plan B and to help Midgard situate herself comfortably in her own skin. Raidho is about how we tell our story. It’s how we describe our journey from here ———-to———–there. Reversed, it really doesn’t care what actually happened on the trip, it’s how it imprinted us. It’s how we carry the experience forward.
Expect to be contemplative this week, in ways that force us to be mindful of our journey, yet cull the meaning of why we’re on it. This hyper-present perspective is likely the challenge that jump starts us with the new avenue offered by Tiwaz.

Life Betwixt – Deathwalking Midgard
A few weeks ago, something happened that I’ve been reticent to openly discuss.
I know–it’s hard to imagine me being quiet. I talk about a lot of things In the Betwixt Series, and most of them are uncomfortable at best. This one, though, left me unsettled, and even more adrift at the thought of bringing it to others.
I think we all knew that wouldn’t last long, though, yes? Silly me.
The short version is, mid-January I was driving down the road when I heard a voice. Again, that’s not an unusual occurrence. I’ve had otherly takeovers before, whilst driving. And if I’m completely honest, I’ve experienced times of possession before, though I’ve got no crafty link to share on those. But this…
So, I was driving home on the first gorgeous day we’d had since November. The sky was perfect cerulean blue, not a cloud, glimmering sunlight, when suddenly I heard a voice in my head. Not unusual, though this one wasn’t one I often hear, by which I mean hadn’t heard it in years. Spokesperson for a group of higher beings I refer to as the Light Council (White Brotherhood, Aesir, Enochian beings??–my LiveJournal crew knows!), it spoke so rapid fire, the only way I could understand it was to say the words aloud, along with it. As soon as I did, the voice that came from my mouth wasn’t mine, and I couldn’t control the words. They were, “We can’t stop it. There’s nothing we can do.”
This went on for some time, and the only reason it ceased is because I became self-conscious with an abrupt, “WTFOMGS!” I was totally discombobulated and bawling, and for a few lingering seconds felt overwhelming sadness, guilt, and disappointment. I also knew without doubt I was experiencing the feelings of this being, and it was referring to Earth.
As in, the planet.
As in, what humans have done can’t be reversed, and we need to own that.
As in, some strata of gods can no longer hold back the effects of what we’ve done, and have had to admit defeat.
As in, hospice, for a planet.
As in, deathwalking is needed, now.
Before I concur with how crazytown it sounds, I’d like to discuss some interesting patterns I’ve witnessed last few years. Brace yourself, for a whole lot of UPG (unverified personal gnosis). I’ve worked with others to support and facilitate their spiritual paths for almost twenty years. I’ve seen a lot of shit. But mostly what I’ve seen is a lot of the same shit; meaning, for years, not much changed.
Until it did, and hasn’t stopped. I offer that the majority of my clients, mentorees, and students since mid-2012 have expressed a lack of ability to find center. However, when we work more deeply, it isn’t that center can’t be found; rather, it keeps moving.
Those of us who have been on the renegade spiritual path for a long while, usually as practitioners of some avenue of it, have enjoyed years of functional tactics, appropriate responses to shifting innerscapes that provide what’s needed. Since that same timeframe, many colleagues have shared with me that their tried methods for personal balance don’t work anymore, and the ones that bring results work short-term, a day, maybe a week. They’ve whispered dismay and embarrassment, as if they’ve lost their mojo, can’t be healed, can’t heal. In reality, it’s nothing they’re doing or not doing.
In fact, empaths that they are, the terminal state of Nature is expressing itself through them.
Cosmologies that have provided wisdom and discipline for decades suddenly are foreign. In the shorter term, by the time elements are called into sacred space, they’ve shifted. The space releases itself.
In that timeframe, I’ve also had perfectly sound people tell me they can’t control their own minds and feelings. Moods and states of being come upon them as if they aren’t their own, generating crises that feel foreign. Inexplicable anger, grief, anxiety, and sadness, rise as in the depths of mourning.
Because when a planet can’t find stasis, neither can anything that lives on it. Without is within.
Since last October, I’ve worked with several people for whom the Elders of their land are leaving or have left. In truth, my relationship with my own has been strained.
That shift in Nature Spirits is the point that I realized just how pivotal this shift is. We’ve made base assumptions about life on Earth since we got here. In truth, they’ve been solid assumptions–things like, the sun will always rise, most definitely in the east, always setting in the west, north will always be north, south will be south, land boundaries are fixed. Yet, we know that’s not true. Our sun has an expiration, which means we do, too. The poles have shifted before, it’s just not in our cellular memory. And land that we’ve inhabited since our dawn is no longer habitable. Even our waterways are changing.
And on the more esoteric plane, we assume the Nature Spirits will always be connected to the land, to the elements. We take for granted that the Land Elders will always tend their end of the bridge, balanced by an engaged human on the other end. The reality is, the lack of human engagement on that passage in many regions, the destruction of the land, itself, has created an energetic imbalance we can’t fix. Many of our Land Elders have already left.
These things are not just in flux, they have changed. Even the sun’s position with regard to the earthly vantage point is contested. Try to throw a rock and hit a season. Confidantes who are sky readers and weather oracles setting their guidance by Nature, herself, find their lexicons shifting and scarcely legible for the first time in decades–if ever.
The last few years have been nothing but constant shifts, with time flying. And we know this. Somewhere deep down in our cells, we know our time living carte blanche on Midgard, Gaia, however we know Her, is limited, and somewhere in the Dreaming, an expiration has been surpassed. Who knows when, how, or what it means. I don’t, though I know we have hit a point of no return. The message I was given doesn’t mean stop saving endangered species and rainforests. It means change the intention of Earth stewardship from one of fixing what can’t be fixed to midwifing it all to What Comes Next, whatever that is. It means continuing to try to stop what has come to pass creates conflict with giving Her a dignified passage. It means it’s time for us all to start doing what we do best, all day, every day, and own it as our gift from the Multiverse, and the gift we give with every breath.
Does it all end? Do we end? Do we have a decade or a thousand? I don’t know. I know that words can’t express the relief I felt that the turmoil of the last few years finally made sense, that as the ultrasensates we are, we have been feeling Her demise without realizing it. We’ve sounded Her fear, Her disillusionment through our own emotions. Whatever comes, we are Her, and can’t resist the call to grow into Her next phase of being, any more than we can resist our own.

The Weekly Rune – Perthro
A second chance with chance, this week.
Tiwaz is the half-month rune through 27 February. Perthro is the intuitive stave. The half-month rune is set by the traditionally accepted runic calendar, and governs for a tad over two weeks. Read right to left is Tiwaz, followed by Perthro. The intuitive stave brings the focus of the half-month rune into sharper focus for the present week.
Following is a summary of The Weekly Rune. Read the full runecast for more details on how these runes impact human life force over the next week, and how to best manage the curves and twists.

Sowilu absolutely brought a balm to the frenetic start of the year. Tiwaz may present a bit of drama, though it’s the entirely manageable kind.

With Tiwaz, it’s imperative to switch to Plan B. The challenge in doing so is to deeply realize just how badly Plan A has failed, and that continuing to cling to it will take us down with it. Chances are, Plan B isn’t brand new. It’s some alternative we thought of long ago and kept on the back burner in case of emergency. This week the alarm button is hit, and the din sounding us to run is real.
Do not take the elevator.
Invite the legwork of the stairs and let the alternate plan that’s been brewing bloom into consciousness. It’s the one. This avenue opens to a totally new terrain, with all new possibilities.
Perthro underscores the significance of that act. In laymen’s terms, it means “luck,” which is a far cry from its traditional meaning. In the west, luck is good, bad, and nebulous. In the Old Norse culture, was (is) the active position within Orlog, natural law, and wyrd, an elegant presence shaping our path. Stave of the Nornir, Perthro is the multiversal equation of orlog: wyrd that has gone before + wyrd that is, to create wyrd that can be.
We are the wyrd that is. Significant here is understanding that we can’t change the wyrd of our ancestors. We can however, bless it, release it, own it, just as we do our own. When we can accomplish those things, we become weavers of our wyrd. We become capable of playing an active role in its manifestation, rather than being victims of what it’s always been.
In the riddle of the runes, now is the change that has always been. Now we become who we have always been, ancestor to ourselves.

The Weekly Rune – Isa
This week brings ice, sunlight, and a second wind.
Sowliu is the half-month rune through 27 February, at which point Tiwaz steps in. Isa is the intuitive stave. The half-month rune is set by the traditionally accepted runic calendar, and governs for a tad over two weeks. Read right to left is Sowilu above, Tiwaz below, followed by Isa. The intuitive stave brings the focus of the half-month rune into sharper focus for the present week.
Following is a summary of The Weekly Rune. Read the full runecast for more details on how these runes impact human life force over the next week, and how to best manage the curves and twists.
Likewise, sign up to get all the details for my new year-long Intensive Reclaiming the Runes – Putting the ‘Elder’ Back in Futhark. This Intensive is focused on teaching the story of the runes in as full an Old Norse context as possible, and instructing on how to work with them as a personal tool for growth, and a facilitator of gaining insight for others.
Moving fully into Sowilu brought relief to a busy start of the year. Later this week, our merger from it to Tiwaz presents quickly resolved drama, if we let it.
Where Sowilu reminds us of our place in divinity, it also wraps up our experience of the second aett. Tiwaz begins our journey into the third aett. Before that though, we get a little break. Every closing stave comes with degrees of acknowledgment of what has passed, what is, and a sense of closure. Sowilu specifically posits a betwixt spot, in which we realize we’re part of the Divine process, yet have our own plans, our own role. In carrying out that role, it suggests we sit for a spell and come into that knowledge, without necessarily making plans for what should be done with it.
Realize all is connected and flows through us. Take the reprieve given at this time to figure out what to do with it.

With Tiwaz, how this plays out demands radical change. Resistance to that change is what generates distress. Indeed, change ripples out alarm. In the heat of battle, realizing the current plan isn’t working and refusing to change it is what causes fatality. The ability to release Plan A and let it be dead is key.
Isa provides ample opportunity to find that sweet spot and get comfortable with it–and I do think comfort is a component of this cast. “Ring not pass” is a phrase associated with Isa, in that until specific knowledge is gained in the current circle, we cannot pass through to the next. Sowilu and Isa both represent holding patterns, where Tiwaz is about redirected focus with decisive new action. Plan A has already revealed itself. It’s in the midst. Plan B, however, may not be so clear. Isa brings the clarification needed to recognize Plan B for what it is, and in doing so, provides the impetus to go with it.
Expect the unexpected this week, and to handle it better than seems possible.

The Weekly Rune – Thurisaz
This week brings lightning and sunlight, not necessarily in that order.
Sowliu is the half-month rune through 27 February, with Thurisaz as the intuitive stave. The half-month rune is set by the traditionally accepted runic calendar, and governs for a tad over two weeks. Read right to left is Sowilu, followed by Thurisaz. The intuitive stave brings the focus of the half-month rune into sharper focus for the present week.
Following is a summary of The Weekly Rune. Read the full runecast for more details on how these runes impact human life force over the next week, and how to best manage the curves and twists.

This Intensive is focused on teaching the story of the runes in as full an Old Norse context as possible, and instructing on how to work with them as a personal tool for growth, and a facilitator of gaining insight for others.
Moving fully into Sowilu has definitely brought more soothing energy to the mix. The transition of Algiz to Sowilu was a little bumpy, given the reversals that marked it. This week we’re moving into lively but solid life force.
Sowilu reminds us of our place in divinity. Divinity isn’t something that happens to us, though through us. We are part of it. In that light, a bit of responsibility shines through this “run” stave. First we realize we’re divine, then we make peace with that fact–a feat which sounds easier on the surface than it may actually be.
Realize all is connected and flows through us. Take the reprieve given at this time to figure out what to do with it.

Thurisaz interjects some excitement into the mix. Having just visited us reversed a few weeks ago , it’s interesting to have it visit again so soon, upright. Carrying the duel meanings of “giant” and “thorn,” this stave means business. Anytime the giants show up, things are about to get wild.
More curious, Thurisaz, in the progression of the runes’ story, means realizing self as separate from the Divine. On the surface that seems to conflict with the unifying divinity behind Sowilu. This week expect to be reminded that we are part of divinity, yet we have a distinct role within it. Expect answers to questions about personal focus, and how staying true to that benefits us all.
